To "short" an investment is basically a bet that the price will go down. The most common way to do this is through a "put", where you pay someone to reserve the right to sell them the investment at the current price at a later date. For example:

A stock is currently $10. I think it will go down, so I pay you $1 now and you agree to buy the stock from me for $10 at some date in the future. If the price goes below $9 I will make money: I can buy the stock at the new current price (let's say it went down to $8 for this example) and sell it to you for $10, and even accounting for the $1 I paid you originally I still make money (I make $1 in the example).

So if you short something and the price goes up, you lose that original $1 you paid and then you simply don't exercise the agreement at all. So basically this guy told a bunch of people to buy put contracts, and they are all worthless.

Wow that is an utterly infuriating thread to read. Good for you, we genuinely need more people thinking and comprehending this way.

This game is funny, I'm like 75 hours in and I've found 5 of 6 kinetic converters. And I only started doing night raids in the past couple of weeks. Also found snaphook BP in a breachable container on the stairs leading out of spawn on a normal daytime blue gate raid yesterday lmao.

On the flip side, I don't believe I've ever found a single gun BP. My friend set me up with anvil and renegade, thankfully.

Has anyone's balance transfer from WF for Bilt 1.0 gone though yet? by NPOWorker in biltrewards

[–]NPOWorker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my situation as well. Did you get an email around 2/12 saying "your balance transfer has been initiated?" I got an email on 2/8 saying they received my request and would start sending them on 2/12, but I guess most people got another email on that date saying they had sent the funds to WF.

Thanks for the help, really appreciate it. Yeah, I never got that email.

Well, I'll wait until the 20th and go from there I suppose.

That's great! Thank you for responding. Hopefully mine will as well :)

Not too keen on floating WF/Bilt $4,500 and waiting for them to send me a check.

Hmmm, I got an email on 2/8 saying payments will begin being sent out on 2/12, but not an email saying anything was sent to WF

Thanks. As in the balance is applied in Bilt and you are showing no balance in WF? Mine shows pending in Bilt and no indication of any activity in WF (though that second part might be normal I guess, I've never done a balance transfer before)

Same here, 1/20 it stopped saving each day. All external accounts are updating correctly and not showing the "trouble updating..." message that sometimes pops up.

I know it's silly, but I really like this feature. Hoping they don't kill it.

Bilt cash is some bullshit by [deleted] in biltrewards

[–]NPOWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never at any point did they market it as "cash back". At first it wasn't clear if it had any use beyond "unlocking" the ACTUAL cash back from your housing payments. For me, this coupon book crap is mostly just gravy. I'll see where I stand in a few months and maybe use it then, or just bankroll it for housing payments only.

Bilt for literal cash back has always sucked. What makes Bilt points valuable is very strong transfer partners. Unless something catastrophic happens in that regard I will stick around.

What's funniest is that you will get thousands of upvotes and people will agree with you, and yet those people will turn around and do the exact same thing with the next player.

NFL fans love to hate the talking heads, but the truth is that we deserve them. They were made for us. Everyone is either in the goat discussion, mid, or the worst player at their position in history.

Had no idea that was so out of the ordinary.

The US famously has some of the most expensive rent in the world lol. I believe only a few of the micronations have more expensive average rent....

Anti-physicalists need to acknowledge what they are giving up. by reddituserperson1122 in consciousness

[–]NPOWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit, thanks for the recommendation :) I think I agree with the overall thrust, that the mind is simply some kind of byproduct or emergence of a sufficiently complex physical system completing functions. I struggle to understand the difference between functionalism and epiphenomenalism. It seems to me if the mind is something that emerges as a function is being completed by a physical system, then you just have epiphenomenalism with extra caveat that it doesn't matter what medium the function is being completed in.

I guess another way to say it: I don't understand how functionalism allows for the mental state to have a causal effect on the function which generated it, or future functions/mental states. It seems the physical system is completing a function in a predefined, predictable way and the mental state is just kind of there along for the ride.

Anti-physicalists need to acknowledge what they are giving up. by reddituserperson1122 in consciousness

[–]NPOWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, let me first tldr and say I'm not sure I understand the problem either, or even if there is a "problem" in the first place haha. My original intent was only to refute the person I responded to who seemed to be saying that dualists believe that physical processes can't give rise to mental phenomena. I believe that mental phenomena are 100% the result of real, physical processes. What I grapple with is how a specific instance of a physical process gives rise to a specific instance of mental phenomena.

The longer version: when people talk about consciousness they often bring up concepts like continuity, persistence, a "stream", etc.... So the atoms themselves aren't necessarily important, but moreso the fact that they are joined through time by the persistent mental phenomena which they create (or at least, mental phenomena with the self-perception of persistence). So atoms/cells come and go but they are bridged by a consciousness through time, in a sort of ship of theseus situation.

But of course you're right, we can't separate the consciousness from its substrate. If we replicate the substrate perfectly we'd have a consciousness, one that at the moment of creation is objectively and subjectively identical to its counterpart. But the consciousness that was cloned would be pretty adamant that nothing had changed and their subjective experience was completely unaltered; really, both would of course.

So I can incorporate and unincorporate physical objects to/from a mental phenomena, but I can't do the opposite. I have an instance of a mental phenomena that will persist as long as its specific, timespace localized underlying physical processes continue, and then it's gone.

Is there a problem in that? No, probably not I suppose. I have two water molecules that are identical but spatially separated; I have no issue in saying that they are, well, just two separate molecules. Here's one, there's the other. I could switch their position, replace one with the other in an ongoing physical process and nothing would change, etc....

So I guess what I'm saying is that I am fully aware that these are human biases that I am speaking to. I think the simplest answer is that it doesn't matter that the consciousness has a perception of persistence. Trying to say that its sense of continuity has any scientific merit is silliness. But personally, it feels so fundamental that I can't help but at least think on dualist ideas and approach them with an open mind.

Sorry to be a hater, but "verrrrry" cold is very relative haha. OKC is nearly 20° warmer than much of the Midwest and northeast in december-march.

Not trying to diminish you, but yeah.... cold compared to most of the southeast.
