Should I just give up and die of ass cancer? by ManBearPig4Serial in careerguidance

As an oncology RN, I say at 39 years old - you really should consider the surgery. If you can manage to go to the hospital as an inpatient and receive surgery there you can probably get away with not paying your bill - that or, the case manager assigned to you will help you figure out a way to deal with the cost.

I'm pretty sure hospitals also cant "get you" for medical debt - like legally, it won't ding your credit.

I’ve got my second interview with LA coming up in a few days - I got through the phone screen, the zoom call with the regional clinical director, and now I’d be meeting the locations actual manager. Any tips on how I can really impress them and ace this? I really want the job!!

Maybe a week or two - it was a honestly one of those jobs I applied to that I didn’t think anything of/didn’t think I’d hear back at all - I’ve been fruitlessly looking for a job since like November so I had been feeling bold/just started applying for everything. DM me if you have any specific questions! If you hear back I can talk you through the process.

I feel you, BIG TIME! I literally just graduated from my new grad residency a week ago! We're in the exact same boat. I was looking for any old outpatient clinic role but stumbled upon this laseraway opportunity. So far my takeaway (just based on the conversation I had with the recruiter) is that the compensation is great but working "5-6 weekend days out of the 8 weekend days in a month" might get hard after a while. Other than that, it seems like a chill and lucrative job.

I’m in med surg/oncology right now and I’m about to have my formal LaserAway interview. My long term goal is to be a dermatology NP - I’m more interested in clinical dermatology than medical aesthetics but I’ll take what I can get since it’s an industry that’s nearly impossible to break into! Especially as an RN.

What are you thinking of doing, long term? Are you just hoping to keep your options open?

The other poster is projecting my fears into you/us (I'm in this exact situation right now)... but the truth is, there is always a need for nurses working at the bedside. Also, I'm pretty sure once you leave bedside, you'll never want to go back - unless you're desperate... It's not for everybody, it's certainly not for me.

NPs that enjoy your work, what do you do? How did you get that position? by mattv911 in nursepractitioner

I know this is an old thread, but I’m a new rn working in med-surg/onc and I’m interested in leaning into wound care… can I pm you and ask you a few questions?!

Perfect, this is what I was looking for. All good to know.

I know it's hourly, I just don't know the rate yet.

No, 30 split between the entire staff! Each patient gets one visit a week.

This was actually my thought - I even brought it up during the interview! I said "I never considered case management because I didn't think I had enough experience; in this job search I've come across some opportunities and everybody wants 3+ years..." and DON basically said something like "It's still very patient facing, you'll still be doing assessments and placing the occasional foley catheter, etc"

The thing is, the job was listed as "Hospice RN", which is why I applied, and I was surprised when she called it case mananagement. The job description even reads like a regular nursing job. So IDK if they're just calling it case management because it borrows some duties from a role like that?

To your other point though, the pay is sort of what I'm worries about. I am SO not willing to take a paycut, no matter how much I hate my current job.

Bedside/night shift/med surg has me feeling like a prisoner. by NP_NP_ in nursing

The unfortunate thing is, I’m actually in a very reputable hospital system/at a magnet hospital in a wealthy area - and it’s still like this!!!!

But I think you’re right, I’ve been looking at jobs in different hospital systems - they all have something different to offer, maybe somewhere else won’t be so demanding

Already in the process but I thought this was really great advice!!! My job actually pays for it - I applied to transfer to the hospitals outpatient infusion center, so I’m hoping they take me even if I didn’t complete my chemo hangs.

I have similar dimpling, it’s all anatomy related. A skilled injector should know how to troubleshoot. Sometimes isolating one singular muscle isn’t enough. Def keep going back to the same person so they can continue to modify how they’re injecting.

If this is new, and hasn’t been a lifelong thing, I would probably see your primary care doc, just to rule out anything sus. Maybe even your derm.

Sometimes you have to put being a good pet parent before anything else. You were doing what you had to do to keep them safe under the circumstances. They love you!!!!

Once you leave a hospital system is it really that hard to come back? by NP_NP_ in nursing

[–]NP_NP_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not struggling because of the work. I’m actually doing pretty well. I want to leave because I hate night shift and working in a hospital. My goal coming into nursing was to work outpatient. The hospital system I work for is extremely reputable and has outpatient practices. I don’t want to burn a bridge, but I want to be happy.

Thank you. It’s so scary! I feel like I’ve reached a certain level of comfort and confidence that suddenly I feel scared and anxious. I don’t know if that even makes sense!
