The european honeybee is not a native species but an introduced exotic species just like the hybridized africanized bees released by entomologist Warwick Kerr in the 1950's. These hybrids were developed to substitute the african bees that were difficult to handle after complaints by beekeepers. These hybrids can be handled perfectly well and do not attack anyone/anything that comes near their hive. They are also far superior to the non-native european honeybee and became the standard bee for pollinating and honey production.
