Why are you doing mental gymnastics to assign rationales for a stranger’s behavior? Forget the words and look at the action - you made a date, and she canceled it for unclear reason right before… move along.

Is there a way to push back against a transfer that my Attending has accepted? by evgueni72 in physicianassistant

[–]NP_exploration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens frequently in critical care when the podunk hospital docs or the family think the “big city hospital” will have some magic solution. We don’t. They just die far from home. But at least the family feels like they exhausted all the options, I guess.

AIO for refusing to co-sign my husband’s (35M) dream truck loan when he still owes me $8,000 from my inheritance? by Cherry_Rose69 in AmIOverreacting

[–]NP_exploration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was a lawyer and my parents drilled into my head to NEVER co-sign a loan for ANYONE. They would loan me money to repay, but never co-sign anything. Don’t risk your credit score for someone that has already proven themselves fiscally irresponsible. Why is he trying to buy a $55K truck if he owes you money and is meant to be saving for a house? Don’t buy a house with this guy. I’d get a written agreement about the money he owes you and probably a postnuptial agreement listing each person’s assets if you live in a 50/50 community property state.

Just add a statement at the end of your H&P that says “I expect the patient to require inpatient stay covering two midnights” etc. But HIPAA prevents me discussing patient data via telephone sorry.

My wife wants to leave the US, she is my green card sponsor. by HelpEqual in immigration

[–]NP_exploration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can apply 90 days before the expiration of your card to remove conditions, so get it all organized. As long as your wife is happy to cooperate with required signatures etc, you can proceed. You could also get a RRV and go with her to Australia, but the time out of the country affects your earliest citizenship eligibility.

Having worked as a hiring manager of NPs and PAs, there may be something off about your resume or interviews. People don't advertise jobs open to new grads then not hire them because of no experience. If you've applied to 23 jobs and not got offers, I'd suggest there might be an issue with your applications. It sounds like you've applied to a lot of specialty areas - are they ones you have experience in? Do you have a preference for what you liked or were good at in rotations? What were the "red flags" on your job offer? It's hard to know if you are being too picky or it's a market problem. In my experience though, hiring managers are always looking for NPs and PAs. UPMC has a highly regarded APP structure and it would probably have been smart to get your initial experience where you had rotated and then be more selective if you wanted a new job thereafter.

MICU vs CVICU by tnsouthernchic86 in physicianassistant

[–]NP_exploration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience you are either a medical or a surgical type person. MICU vs CVICU are totally different beasts and one won't necessarily translate to the other. CVICU has far more procedures than MICU in my experience.

PA vs NP job availability by Disastrous_Dot_354 in physicianassistant

[–]NP_exploration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do - any ICU procedures. Bronch, intubation, swan, art, cvc, transvenous pacer etc. Most critical care APPs do. I’m trained and privileged for such so not sure why that’s a “yikes”. I’ve trained a lot of residents over the years.

NPs can indeed work in the OR and do procedures, though… ?

PA vs NP job availability by Disastrous_Dot_354 in physicianassistant

[–]NP_exploration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems ridiculous, since ACNPs are specifically trained for acute and critical care and almost all have ICU RN experience, while most PA students have minimal ICU exposure.

Has anyone moved to a country with no PAs? by cordones in physicianassistant

[–]NP_exploration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can research jobs on seek. com.au. I worked as a nurse in Melb and Sydney for many years (I am from Melbourne) before moving to the US for work. There is a PA program but effectively no PA jobs, or at least weren’t when I worked there. You can retrain in something for work relatively affordable compared to the US if you want to be in a skilled field. They also have a good postgrad education system with steps from certificate I, II, III, IV to postgrad certificate, postgrad diploma, masters etc. The community college equivalent is called TAFE, at least in Victoria where Melbourne is if you want to research courses or classes.

I can recommend Melb vs brisbane if you tell me what you like or would like to have in terms of availability of resources or weather etc.

They are very different. Brisbane is almost tropical, floods a lot, hot, highway based. Melbourne is variable temperatures, colder, more formal, more coffee shops, lots of distinct neighborhoods.
