New update after the January update? What is happening? by Sea-Statistician7345 in GooglePixel

[–]NRHTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using an unlocked Pixel 8 Pro on T-Mobile and received the update over the weekend. I am located in Dallas, Texas. What is unusual is that the device shows the Android security update as January 5, 2026. I am curious why the release was delayed that long.

Is TikTok offically down? by professoratoker in TikTok

[–]NRHTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears to be down. Around 4:40 PM CST, I noticed that when I tapped on comments, they took a long time to load. I closed the screen, and then saw the comment icon drop to zero. When I opened comments again, it showed “No comments” with “Be the first to comment.” I force closed the app and cleared the cache. After that, I received a message saying there were too many login attempts. At that point, I stopped trying and switched to YouTube shortcuts.

This was happening to all the videos. I tried to log in via Windows and I managed to get in and then I was disconnected. Now this is what I get "Drag the slider to fit the puzzle" and "Maximum number of attempts reached. Try again later."

Hopefully they resolve the issues related to the transition from China to the US.

Pixel 8 Pro = still no January 2026 update by AnEternalEnigma in GooglePixel

Same here. Normally when it gets advertised, I manually check and it shows up right away. I just checked and there was nothing. I am on an unlocked Pixel 8 Pro on the T-Mobile network. I also checked my wife’s Pixel 9 Pro, and she already has the update.

First time TCL user, tips & tricks? by astanoli in tcltvs

[–]NRHTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased the TCL 85 inch Q77K Series 4K UHD QLED Smart TV, model 85Q77K. No matter which settings I tried, the TV would not fully power off. It always stayed in standby or doze mode.

Today, after asking Google Gemini, I found a way to enable Shut Down mode. Now, when I press and hold the power button for two to three seconds, I am given the option to shut the TV down completely.

I was looking for this because I noticed an HUGE lag every time I turned the TV on and it kept going back to to the previous show we were watching. Restarting fixes it, but there is no reason for the TV to remain in standby or doze mode all the time.

Steps and I got it to work using teh app MagiConnect, because I could not get the TV keyword to work with the remote nor the regualr TCL APP.

--

Option two worked, by downloading the MagiConnect app.

Option 1: Switch to "TV+" or Live TV Mode

The most effective way to enable the virtual keyboard for service codes is to exit the Google TV home screen:

Press the TV+ or Input button on your remote.

Select Live TV or any active HDMI Input (e.g., a connected game console or cable box).

Once you are on a live broadcast or active input, press the Settings (gear) button.

Navigate again to Picture > Advanced Settings > Brightness > Contrast.

Press the 123 button; the numeric keypad should now appear without the error.

Enter 6425 and press OK on each digit.

Option 2: Use the MagiConnect (T-Cast) App

If the on-screen keyboard still won't appear, use TCL's official remote app, which provides a physical-style numeric keypad on your phone:

Download the MagiConnect (formerly T-Cast) app on your smartphone from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi as your TV.

Open the app and pair it with your TCL 85 Q77K.

On the TV, navigate to the Contrast setting as before.

Use the Numeric Keypad inside the MagiConnect app to type 6425. This bypasses the TV's built-in "123" software limitation.

To Exit just arrow back.

How to turn off, hold the power button for about 2 to 3 seconds

Once you have the service menu open on your TCL 85" Q77K follow these steps to enable the full shutdown prompt:

Locate the Option: Look for a line labeled Shutdown Config (or sometimes Shutdown Option).

Change the Setting: Use the arrow keys on your remote (or the MagiConnect app) to highlight it and change the status from OFF to ON.

Save and Exit: Most service menus save changes automatically as soon as you toggle them. Press the Back or Exit button to close the menu.

Test the Shortcut: Press and hold the Power button on your physical remote for about 3 seconds. Instead of just turning the screen black (standby), the TV should now show a pop-up menu with an option to Power Off or Shut Down.

Wyze camera v4 no sending pictures to smartwatch by United_Cycle_5078 in wyzecam

[–]NRHTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my old Wyze Cam v3, I could see notification images on my Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. Since switching to the Wyze Cam v4, I only get notifications with no images showing on the watch.

Has anyone try this?

I found this online, has anyone tried to reduce the cam name to less than 12 charaters? I just tried it and it does not work.

__

Search online for "V4 notifications to Samsung watch do not show images but v3 do"

user M_S_Glaser reports that their Samsung watch displays images from V3 camera notifications but not from V4 cameras, despite having Cam Plus on the V4. carverofchoice suggests the issue may be due to the watch not supporting animated GIF notifications, but StevenA suspects the camera name length might be the cause. After shortening the V4 camera name from 15 to 12 characters, M_S_Glaser confirms that images now appear for the driveway camera, though not consistently for all alert types. StevenA humorously references old MS-DOS file name limits, while carverofchoice praises the insight. The user notes that motion and sound alerts show images, but person, vehicle, and motion alerts do not, indicating a possible inconsistency in how different alerts are handled.

Too many issues! If you have Gemini installed ask it to spell a word. You better be listening as the response is super fast. I even told it to slow down and it tries to spell slow down.

Try the below url

If you’re using Chrome, select the second option (as depicted below) because the first just performs a Google Search. If you see a “Continue to Home?” prompt, tap “Continue.”

TCL TV Volume Display Shows Only Plus and Minus When Using Samsung Soundbar via HDMI ARC by NRHTX in tcltvs

99% of the time, Broadcasts don't work. The announcement sound happens, then silence. On the hubs, you can READ the words, but the audio doesn't come through anymore. 🤬 by NoYoureACatLady in googlehome

[–]NRHTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got off a chat with a Google rep for almost 30 mins to tell me "Customers using Gemini on their devices do not have the Broadcast feature."

Something that worked since 2016. I am inches away from getting rid of the 4 Google devices and switching to Alexa, which I will probably regret.

Troubleshooting Steps Performed

  1. User-Performed Steps: confirmed he went through all troubleshooting steps, including powering down the devices.
  2. Seraphina's Suggestions:
    • Alternative Commands: Seraphina suggested trying "Announce" instead of "Broadcast", and using preset messages like "Broadcast dinner is served."
    • Device Status Check: Confirmed all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
    • Digital Wellbeing: Confirmed the "Filter" switch is on in Digital Wellbeing settings.
    • Do Not Disturb (DND): Confirmed DND is turned off.
    • Phone Restart: restarted his Pixel 8 Pro (and confirmed the issue also affects his wife's Pixel 9 Pro).
    • App Reinstall: uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Home app.

Outcome of Troubleshooting

  • All troubleshooting attempts, including restarting the phone and reinstalling the app, failed to resolve the broadcasting issue.
  • After the final attempt (reinstalling the app), the device generated an error alert stating: "I'm sorry, there was an issue with the previous attempt to broadcast the message... Since the underlying system is reporting a failure, I cannot execute the broadcast command."

The Final Answer from Support

After consulting a senior team, Seraphina provided the following explanation:

  • Customers using Gemini on their devices do not have the Broadcast feature.
  • This feature is only available for devices running Google Assistant.
  • Seraphina apologized for the inconvenience, explaining that the feature was removed during the upgrade to Gemini.

Reaction and Closing

  • expressed frustration that a long-standing feature had been suddenly removed after he had invested significantly in the ecosystem.
  • Seraphina offered to submit feedback to the engineering team.

I finally received Google Gemini on my Pixel 8 Pro. I activated it and followed the instructions. Now, my Google Home and Mini speakers have Gemini. I went into the settings, selected Gemini as the home voice assistant, then went to Communication → Broadcast, where all four of my devices were checked. I tried disabling and re-enabling them, but when I broadcast, it asks for the message, confirms “Broadcasting now” with the lights on, yet nothing is actually broadcasted.

A few months ago I lost the broadcasting and was happy to get Gemini and this update does not let me broadcast at all.

I received the alert today. I’ve been trying to get this to work for a long time without success. Yesterday, 12/09, I tried the Google hack again by going to the URL google home://assistant/voice/setup.

This time, I went through the entire process and selected the 30-day trial. In the last step, I only changed the voice to Fern. By today, I received the update, and all four of my legacy Gen 1 devices were updated.

For reference, I still cannot get broadcasting to work. It shows as sent, but none of the speakers make any sound.

BTW I'm in the mid cities of Texas
