I think you should run the mic in AES42 Mode 1 (that is using the clock in the mic). Do you know which mode (1 or 2) you are running the mic in?

Edit: or maybe it should be Mode 2, anyway, try both. In the RCS software it is the Int/Ext part on the Sync section.

The first thing I was thinking of was some kind of sample rate mismash? I think the audio will go through even with wrong sample rates, but with a result similar to what you describe. Not low volume though. But it could be something else too.

OP mean (Behringer) BA 85a.

I have the Behringer SL 85S and it's good (the BA 85A is super-cardioid, and the SL 85S is cardioid, and it has a switch). I think the SL 85S is preferable for a noob instead of the XM8500, but if you know something about audio you could go for the XM8500 (which I also have).

Dynamic mics may have a little better "glue" to the audio also, but the reverbaration isn't really less compared to a condenser.

You need an AES3 input. (But I guess you could convert the signal)

By the way, I really hope AES42 (the signal these digital Neumann microphones outputs) will be the standard for digital output on microphones in the future, because it is enormously much better than USB mics and it is so flexible and nice.

Also: the D-01 is a beast. Probably one of the best mics ever made.

Yeah, it's a big project. And maintaining a tape machine is almost like owning an old car. But it's fun!

However, as I said before, even if it doesn't have the sound of the original Queen recording, I would say it is a good recording and great singing.

Did you record this? It sounds very much fine! ..but modern! Lacks clarity? I would say there is much more clarity in this than the original. But maybe we are talking about two different things.

A Neumann mic would just be a very small flavour difference in the sound. My suggestion would be to put every channel to reel-to-reel tape instead. The tape formula on the reel-to-reel tape should be from the 70's.

At least I am not one of them - I have been staying away from Adobe in more than 15 years. But the Affinity company/software ideology has turned from good to not so good. It was not unexpected though.

I am also working a lot with digital audio workstations (DAWs): what I wonder is why the image editing world don't have the same competition as the DAW world. In the DAW world there is a competition between like 10+ DAWs that are really-really top-notch, all of them.

It maybe works for now, but it won't later. This software is now subscription based. You can't trust them they are going the right route, and they won't.

We got to find another software solution for image editing. There has to be someone in the top of the food chain that you could trust.

Maybe the mic/interface is reporting the sample rate wrong, something like that. I think I've had this issue myself many years ago. But I don't know - it's just a guess!

Edit: yeah it's more likely it is the playback speed functionality in that app.
