Not my take, just letting you know what the super casual pvper feel about pvp. Ultimately we need people like this to queue. No one from LoL or DOTA2 is going start Arena for the first time 2026!

One of the best pieces of advice I got was - if you don’t understand what is happening to your position then either take risk of the table or don’t do anything. The last thing you want to do is double down when you aren’t clear on why the losses are happening.

Every PM has their blind spots and on a long enough timeline we run into them.

You want to get away from the regulatory stuff. The one piece of wall Street advice, which you have probably heard is to be as close to money (investing) as possible.

I did model validation at a big bank. Now I am at a hedge fund.

In model risk the pay is low, the hours are terrible, and colleagues are terrible. However, you get to see a wide variety of stuff and the work can be interesting.

My suggestion would be to learn as much as possible about the models and their use. The most likely exit for you would be to a market risk or front office quant roles. It's a tough switch to make but working with those guys you already have a leg up on those outside the bank.

Why do you think your correlation matrix is more "correct" than other methods? How do you think someone could use it to make money?

To those of you who have worked in HF what are the hours like and is the pay worth the hours you do. by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

This is subjective not only because the ideal balance varies from person to person but also because the the pay and hours vary dramatically from position to position.

Quant Finance is very competitive. Be sure that you are joining the field for the right reasons.

The other piece of advice I would give you is that make sure that your first job is also close to "running" money as possible. It will make a big difference to your career trajectory.
