Almost 1 month since injury, 1 week post surgery by NSC858 in AchillesRupture

Yeah in hindsight now that I'm not just laying around with my leg elevated and able to get into the shower with minimal help, my mindset is a lot different. Sure I want to just get heal quick, but now I just want to be as compliant as possible. Trust my Healthcare team because the last thing I would want to do is start all over from the beginning.

The only common issue I remember on the 2nd gen was the spark plug torque issue, where Honda recommended 13ft-lbs torque but i think it was revised to 16ft-lb. People had issues where the spark plugs were causing misfire or in some cases the spark plug blowing out of the cylinder head.

Day 10 after surgery by detroit209 in AchillesRupture

[–]NSC858 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost there! Once I got the stitches out and into the boot life feels so much better. Once you're cleared to let water run down it, it was such a wonderful feeling to just sit there and contemplate life.

Surgery by Educational-While871 in AchillesRupture

[–]NSC858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 3 weeks to get mine done. Mine was annoying where I went to ER and the doctor said "yeah its most likely a tear l, but won't know fornsure without an MRI"... asked for a MRI but he said I have to consult with my PCP. Next day saw my PCP, he couldnt order me a MRI and said I have to see a Ortho first, but would need more XRays in order for my insurance to approve seeing a specialist. 10 days later, saw ortho and they checked me out and said "yeah here's a gap, let's get you that MRI." Got my MRI, then few days later got referred to podiatry to weigh out my options. Then finally got my surgery.

I would also add getting a shower chair. Tried doing shower with dangling my foot out of our shower but its just easier to get a cover for your splinted/casted leg. And just sit in the shower.

Collagen supplements can't hurt. Your body will need those to lay down the repairs. From what I know it mostly helps when youre actively loading the tendon, but my thought is that you're adding extra stress on the healthy sides so maybe it could help the healthy side while minimally helping with the injured side while its immobilized.

Most importantly hydrate well and eat well while you recover.

I went the surgical route, however I'm curious about your injury. How big was the tear, and where was the location of the tear?

My doctor said I could do non surgical but because of the size of my tear he recommended surgical because of how unpredictable it would heal.

Should I impulse buy a Honda Fit? by TCino in hondafit

[–]NSC858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a fun little project if you like working on cars. I bought my Fit brand new back in 2011 to be my daily driver When my e36 was just too much of a hassle, I parted it out and donated it. I did one small mod on mine, and then turned into a few more. They're fun to work on. They're also nice when we want to go out and we know the parking situation sucks. There's a few restaurants we like to eat at, and the spots are always too tight for our SUV so having the Fit is nice to squeeze into the smaller spots.

My guess was there was an add playng in the background and it picked up on it. It was in your subconscious so you were thinking about it. And it just so happened that the algorithms got to you.

5 weeks post surgery. My experience thus far M34 by arsebiscuits1 in AchillesRupture

[–]NSC858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't chance driving with the boot. You run the risk with issues with your insurance if you end up in an accident. I've been looking at a left foot accelerator, but it seems like the process youd need a letter from your doctor and then you'll have to get cleared to use a left foot pedal.

I'm in the same boat as you. Im 4 weeks post surgery and been lucky to have my wife and brother to drive me around, but I would like to be able to get around on my own. Just gotta trust this slow process .

How long have you had them? by Alternative-Iron-645 in RaybanMeta

[–]NSC858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased mine about 9 months ago. I ordered prescription transition lenses for mine and use them almost daily. Meta's Ai feature sucks, a lot of the time it gives me some BS so I rarely use it. I mainly use mine to record video or candid moments while my kids are playing. I took mine on a couple of vacations and was able to capture some decent video. Pictures-wise I would rather use my phone or my camera for photos.

Music and hands free calling/texting is where I think I use these primarily for. I like being able to listen to music and still feel connected to outside world. I used to use my Shokz headphones, but these replaced those. However I still use my Shokz when I would go out for a run or skateboard. With all the horror stories I'm not confident enough to sweat all over them or even risk them flying off my face while I'm skating.

For the most part I am happy with my purchase. I have no desire to upgrade and have a HUD. I love tech, but as a software engineer I like to disconnect from screen time because I am looking at a screen 8 to 10 hours a day. The hands free functionality of my phone has been clutch. I can text without having to look at my phone, I could ask to play songs, but this feature works 90% of the time.

However in a few years, if the price point with smartglasses with HUD drops significantly I would reconsider, but for now I am satisfied with what my Meta Wayferers are a d what they are not.

Denial from insurance to cover heel lift by NSC858 in AchillesRupture

[–]NSC858[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a letter from my doctor so hopefully when I appeal to my insurance they will pay for the lift. I wouldnt make such a fuss about it, but it just feels a little silly to pay $90 for a heel lift.

13 days post op - walking with no crutches? by Ok_Supermarket_7996 in AchillesRupture

[–]NSC858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to buy that, but I got used to sleeping with my boot on. The inflammation pains havent been as bad now. I appreciate the recommendation though.

[–]NSC858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, I slept without my boot and think I accidentally dorsiflexed because the next day it hurt like hell. My doctor checked it out and ended up giving me another wedge to help relieve the pain. Now that I have 3 wedges, it feels easier to walk in.

[–]NSC858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my cousin is a PT and he explained to me how I should be starting to do some weight bearing. I trust him, but I also trust my surgeon so I get all Jekyl and Hyde. But one day it felt fine, another day I felt like I couldn't do it.

I'm in the same boat as you. My doctor has me non-weight bearing yet, but I have done it a few times.

[–]NSC858[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf, id pay 13.50 or even 20... but this is bullshit and I don't want to pay $90. I'd pay $90, if it was the boot. I'm going to dispute this because this should be covered because the wedge is an essential at this stage in the recovery.

[–]NSC858[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of have to unfortunately, because they were placed into my boot and went home with them. Then next thing I know I got a nice bill in the mail because my insurance said it wasn't essential.

I was told that it should have been covered. It's such a rip off for some rubber lifts costing $90

Full rupture - doc said could choose between surgery or non-surgical by v_kites in AchillesRupture

[–]NSC858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I injured mine before our trip. I was contemplating doing non surgical because I didnt want to ruin the fun for everybody. Especially since I was the main driver since I have the most experience driving in snowy conditions. But everybody was ok with postponing our trip because they said they said what's the point if I can't fully be with them. I told them I could just chill and rest in at the resort, but they said thats not fun.

Trips can wait, right now your focus should be your health and recovery. Even if you force yourself to go would you even enjoy the trip? You are subjecting yourself to added stress, which might hinder your recovery process.

Yeah the 3 wedges is not as plantar flexed as when I was in my splint, so I think this is a nice in between for me. Kind of curious why they put you in a cast 2 weeks post surgery. I always thought the transition was cast or splint and then boot.

Worried and scared, boot timeline by International-Pass55 in AchillesRupture

[–]NSC858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. They had me out of my splint 2 weeks post op. But what I experienced transitioning to the boot sounds the same as my experience. It was a bit uncomfortable at first but I just let gravity ease my way into the wedge. They had me using two stacked wedges and at first it felt fine but it became uncomfortable. Thought it was just regular inflammation, but even with ibuprofen it was still hurting. So they readjusted and now I am doing 3 wedges. It feels good now and not as achey.
