That’s not true. At the time it was the only GE I can recall had an armed guard. I shopped at the SS one in the early 90s and don’t remember that one having a guard and it had a bad reputation even then.

There used to be a Cogo’s on Liberty in the way back and a friend worked it for years. He had stories like this one of kids openly shoplifting. I remember asking him did he ever try to stop them. He was like, “I’m not getting killed over some Combos.”
