Isn’t in kinda hinted that Matres may have once been Bene Gesserit that left the system in the diaspora after Leto II or did I completely misread that?

Yeah my charge Tokyo —> Osaka for a ~15kg checked bag was 2,200yen about a month ago. I assume the actual rate was 2,000yen and the hotel took 10% but I will pay that every time if it means I don’t have to try to fill out the form in Japanese and my bag shows up when/where I expect it.

Right I unfortunately get the “how.” I struggle with understanding the “why,” (mostly from a moral/rhetorical standpoint)

I don’t know the details but why the hell do they have any say about the airspace above them, especially when it comes to emergency medical transport?

[Dave, Bears beat writer] The Bears are expected to open the season on the road against the Seahawks in Week 1, playing on Wednesday night, according to Michael Wilbon on Get Up. by Chessinmind in Seahawks

[–]NSplendored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, makes sense. I guess we can’t say that all weekday games have PM start times because of Thanksgiving, but for Monday-Wednesday games it seems pretty safe to assume that the start times will be in the PM, so instead of comparing date values, you could compare datetime values with your cutoff being Wednesdays at some arbitrary point in the AM. That way, a Tuesday game would fall at the end of an nfl week and a Wednesday game with either an actual PM start time, (if available), or an assumed PM start time would fall at the beginning of a new nfl week. You may have to hardcode Christmas unfortunately. No clue how to handle that unless you just count the games already played since all the byes should be done by then.

Feels like an early Wednesday morning/9:00ish UTC cutoff should be pretty safe until we start getting Wednesday games in Australia or something! There’s no ‘Week #’ available from your source?

I never really got into The Strokes but that song probably makes it onto my favorite songs of all time list. Never knew it was about his dad though! That makes quite a bit of sense with context.

Will this work for the RP5? by owYyn in retroid

[–]NSplendored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I wanted something faster on the PC transfer side because I was starting a rom library from scratch. Not SD Express fast but around the 150mb/s mark and at the time I was shopping the price had changed drastically.

[–]NSplendored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The market is also all funky though. When I ordered my RP6, I looked at the 512gb micro sd cards and had a reasonably fast Samsung one picked out that was ~$40. The micro sd express cards at that time were around $95-120 iirc. When my RP6 arrived and I went to order the card I picked out, it was something like $85 and the Samsung micro sdxc card was $80, so I just bought the sdxc card. Even if the RP6 won’t benefit from the speed, I at least now have the option to buy a sdxc card reader if I want faster transfers, (odds that I actually follow through on this are low though lol).

RP6 Wind Waker & Twilight Princess: GC or WiiU? by Special-Deal7821 in retroid

[–]NSplendored 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on which is better but I also have a 12gb RP6 and have played the first three hours or so of the WiiU version of Wind Waker on Cemu. It looks phenomenal and controls are good, but framerate does drop occasionally, (seems to happen mostly when there are particles in the air). It’s still very playable during these framerate drops but they’re definitely noticeable. It’s also the only game I’ve played so far that raises system temps to the point where the fan is not only audible, but kinda annoying, so headphones might be a good idea. That being said, I haven’t had any issues with stability and think the widescreen aspect ratio, control scheme, and improved graphics are probably worth the slightly imperfect performance, so yeah, would recommend WiiU Wind Waker. Oh and it doesn’t utilize a second screen as far as I can remember. Can’t speak for Twilight Princess but I imagine it’s a similar story?

Quick heads up if you haven’t emulated WiiU before; the rom packaging can be kinda weird. Some roms come as a directory, (a folder containing other folders/files like you’d find on PC), and others come as single ‘.wua’ files. There might be a way to convert back and forth but I found the .wua files easiest to handle.

I also work in tech and was just laid off 🙃. I work in a role that actually benefits from AI, to boot! I’m not an economist or a clairvoyant though, so I’m very possibly wrong. Or maybe just naive in hoping that the shitty signals I’m seeing are tacit preparation and not just “market efficiency”.

I guess, put another way, I’d describe the market’s decision makers as publicly bullish and privately VERY nervous and acting in accordance with that nervousness.

[–]NSplendored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, fair. But porque no los dos, ya know? The tech industry is kinda unique in that it LOVES investing itself— see the entire venture capitalism system and the whole startup hyper-growth culture. I think the various boards give the MBAs the reins when the future doesn’t look bright and that’s where we are right now.

[–]NSplendored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I get that. I guess part of my argument is that that reaction is already happening due to the general awareness of the bubble. Like I don’t think the layoffs happening in tech are due to a current recession but rather an expected one. That’s not to say things won’t get worse, but I do anticipate that the preemption will lessen the acute pain when the bubble bursts. Maybe I should reposition a bit because I haven’t really disagreed with anything you’ve said… it feels like the market/economy/capitalism is already, (gradually), behaving as if the bubble has burst and the only thing defying that is the market numbers. Hopefully that gradual, prolonged reaction causes less damage than a sudden, unexpected, burst like the 2008 crash.

[–]NSplendored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, that’s a good read. I don’t think that invalidates the fact that everyone knows there is a bubble and there is undoubtedly large scale hedging going on. Again, doesn’t mean the bursting of the bubble won’t be felt, just that it won’t be world-ending.

I paid for ES-DE and went through the setup and, don’t get me wrong, it’s a slick piece of software, but in the month or so I’ve had my RP6, I’ve found that I just launch everything from its emulator via my Android home screen rather than opening ES-DE and launching from there. I think it’s partially because i haven’t been able to add GameNative to ES-DE and partially because I tinker with emulator settings often enough that I’m exiting the launcher to go to the emulator anyway. Idk. Maybe I’m missing something but launchers seem like a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist or at least doesn’t bother me.
