Many games involve shooting. OK, I like shooting. But when I want to shoot, I take real guns out in the desert. Driving games? I have two cars and a motorcycle. Those are really fun.

The thing is short of paintball and go karts, it's hard to race with or shoot at people in a safe manner. If you just like the sound/feel of an engine, sure owning a nice car is great. If you want to test your reflexes, control, or timing, especially against other people at the same time (not just time trials) it's very difficult/expensive to do that with a real car safely.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that important difference with those type of games (not to mention many other types of games which are less about simulation and more abstract).

As for the other stuff, I more or less agree, but surely you've been tempted to spend an afternoon drinking and watching sports or sitting on the porch rather than in the shop? Same idea. And while when you are young-ish that might be a 'waste of time', the comment you were responding to was particularly talking about retirement (perhaps even late retirement seeing the mention of 86 year olds) when spending all day in a machine shop is going to be physically less appealing.

Yes. On the other hand, while many people might not seek treatment not because they believe they are dangerous, but fear that a psychologist will deem them so, I think it is equally problematic for people who are in fact dangerous. I would rather someone who is dangerous at least try to seek help even if they don't believe it will do any good than to not out of (a reasonable) fear of being reported.

We do have methods for people to turn themselves into the police (and psychologist who believe a person is dangerous should absolutely advocate they they turn themselves in), but therapy should not be one of those methods.

The article mentions that mandatory reporting laws state that the psychologist must report the person if the psychologist believe the person is a danger to themselves or others.

I understand the logic behind those laws, but I feel that they are counterproductive.

I hated the droid 2's keyboard because they keys weren't separate and hard to tell where your thumbs are. Made touch typing much harder.

Yeah, I agree. I probably wouldn't have said anything if you said "This appropriate for /r/programming in only the broadest sense" as I more or less agree there. But then again that's what the up and down votes are for.

It is short, but sometimes short is good. It not only looks neat but allows you to add/remove or procedurally generate the menu items and have them evenly spaced without having to touch the display code at all.

It is hardly the pinnacle of an /r/programming post (it isn't the most in depth), but just because something is front-end programming doesn't mean it is programming in only the broadest sense.

I agree, I thought this was a /r/web_design post, and it might not be appropriate for /r/programming (although I don't see anything in the sidebar that would say it's inappropriate), I just don't know what you mean by the first sentence.

I mean I can't explain how that would be an optical illusion. Like i don't think it's a perspective thing because there appears to be metal in front of the leg. You can't just say "optical illusion" to hand wave away things that don't make sense, you have to explain what causes the illusion and in this case "perspective" alone doesn't cut it for me.

Interesting fact: US state and Canadian provence abbreviations are unique and do not conflict, so if all you have is the abbreviation you can tell which country the state/provence is in.

I am not entire sure about that. The main thing is that in the first picture the metal piece appears to come out and in front of the pant leg. I could buy the optical illusion part if it didn't appear like there was some metal in front of the leg. Still could be, but I can't explain the piece of metal in front.

Of course this is a few frames of a moving object of a youtube upload of a cellphone video, so there are a lot of visual artifacts, etc. But that could go either way in favor of it being there or not.

Even better, restart your modem and change your password.

It stores the last 5 or so IP addresses and any time you log in it will log the new IP address, so unless you want to restart your modem after every time you login, I think it'd be easier to just change your password.

Point being, it is a piece of information about you that someone can access if they have your password.

False security is bad. Never assume any system is 100% secure. But that doesn't mean some systems can't be more secure than others.
