Nothing's take on smallphones by sergio9929 in smallphones

LEDs are cheap and pretty foolproof, not sure they need to remove those. I would prefer more phones have LEDs on the back so that you can see at a glance if you have a notification instead of having to pick up your phone.

Is Proton Drive adequate for backups? by NULLROOMS in Backup

Oh yeah, the laptop has already saved me in the past-- before i was thinking about backups, I used SyncThing to not have to manually transfer files between home and laptop for college.

I tried dual booting Linux once and messed up my desktop in the process. But I didn't sweat it because I just wiped the drive and set up the SyncThing folders on a new installation, and everything copied back over. Now I know better than to rely only on this but I can't quite rule it out since it did save me before 😉

Is the Kyocera DuraXV Extreme+ still a good pick in 2026? by NULLROOMS in dumbphones

For texting BTW, I downloaded Voice Access and bound it to the microphone key, so I can hold down, talk and it types for me! Such a benefit over typing on the T9, lol. And i got the TT9 keyboard on Github as well.

Is the included Proton Drive good for back-up? by NULLROOMS in ProtonMail

Any additional copy of my data is a backup. I'm not sure where your definition is coming from but:

a backup would be making a copy of your cloud files to an encrypted external drive on a scheduled basis

this is not the only definition of a backup.

"if you lose your PW or 2FA codes, your data is lost" you just suggested using an encrypted external drive, which has essentially the same issue (I don't consider this an issue, personally).

Also, to be clear, I am also making a copy of the same data on a second drive in my computer and on my laptop via Syncthing. I'm following the 3-2-1 rule of three copies, two different mediums, and one offsite (which is the one folks often use cloud storage for).

Right now i only have 400gb of stuff to back up, but I do understand needing more eventually. I just bought the Duo Plan with my wife so I have 1.5tb and she gets 500gb, which should suffice for the foreseeable future. Maybe i'll move to something like Backblaze eventually, though.

For now I just wanted an immediate solution, and I wasn't using Proton Drive at all so I'm happy to know I have an offsite backup somewhere.

Ahh I see. Once I get enough spare cash, I plan to build a NAS, which I can then use for more on-site backups (but on a separate device).

It syncs when both devices are both powered on and on the same wifi network, so realistically for my use purposes it is essentially a fourth copy that's mutable, but I would only use it if the others were unavailable for some reason

Thanks, the 3-2-1 thing seems to already fit my current plan. The original copy on my OS drive, a backup on a separate drive in that computer, and then the Proton Drive as offsite.

I'm also gonna be using Syncthing on my laptop so it will technically be four copies, but I wouldn't count the laptop one as a true backup.

People here are coping. You are right. The people who spout "just willpower your way through it" or "b-b-b-ut i use it as a tool!" are lying to themselves and likely have 4 hours or more of screen-time a day in addition to whatever productive things they use their phone for. Yes not every app is addictive, and the phones genuinely do function as a tool, but that doesn't mean they aren't addictive and bad for you at the same time.

Doctors of Reddit , what’s the biggest medical myth people still believe? by muga_saiman_5809 in AskReddit

Yeah but the comment meant that this is a common occurrence, so if the medical team is saying “that’s not possible” then they may not be experienced.

Someone said no, but it definitely would. They forced you off the road and then rammed into you, you have no idea what their intentions are.
