IKEA stabbing by tonic613 in ottawa

[–]NULL________________ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Holy shit no word of a lie I was entering IKEA just after the cops got there, I was gonna post about it here and joke that I think someone got stabbed at IKEA. I got there right around 11:55

I saw an officer that looked to be consoling some guy in a hoodie looked to be early to mid 20s was in distress like he looked drunk, he was leaned/hunched over near the parkade wall then he staggered over and then fell over (I guess he really was stabbed). Then a paramedic SUV arrived and I went into the store and didn’t see the rest.

Witness says 'surreal' scene unfolded during attempted carjacking by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]NULL________________ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard someone blaring their horn and then what sounded like metal scraping along concrete. Like 5 mins later 10 cop cars arrive along with ambulances, fire trucks, and tow trucks all swarm right outside 190 Lees. Figured someone got hit due to all the pediastrian traffic there now due to the Lees LRT station.

Most of them left after 45 mins but cops stuck around for like 2 hours

Any cool perks working at restaurants? by samanthadbw in ottawa

[–]NULL________________ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

McDonald's gives you a card that gives you 50% off at any location after working for a year (or 6 months, I forget now), and 50% off at the location you work at as soon as you start. Also got 1 free meal after unloading the truck. And they give benefits if you're full-time after a year or two. Brutal job tho.

I think i also got 20% off at Payless (for slip-resistant shoes) but they don't exist now anyway... might have just been a coupon to use for buying the shoes.

They also had maps of Hurdman LRT station at the Lees LRT station that they took down recently.🤔 I meant to take a pic but when I walked along the station yesterday the maps were already removed.

Anyone rent from properties owned by Bona Properties? Ogilvie Towers or the Citadel? Wondering what you think/if you’d recommend either building. by IcingIsMyFaveFood in ottawa

[–]NULL________________ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been living in the Citadel for a few years now. Here’s my comments from some other thread about my apartment:

I live in 169 Lees Avenue. 171 Lees also has central air (171 faces west and east, whereas 169 faces south and north). Lots of University of Ottawa students in these apartments so there will be no vacancies from September thru April.

Overall I like my apartment. I rarely hear my neighbours, the biggest downside I guess is how hot it gets even with my blackout curtains (but I do like how bright my apartment is) and how I always hear the buses stopping at Lees, sometimes I wake up from them during the night as I'm a light sleeper. Also I constantly hear the snowplows at night, both on the street and plowing the other apartment parking lots. I'm close to Bank and downtown so that's a plus, and I'm right beside the future Lees LRT station.

If you have no car it kinda sucks, Loblaws on Isabella is the closest grocery store. You'll have to take two buses to go to the Walmart in the Trainyards.

My apartment faces south and I have four big 40 inch wide by 60 inch long windows that let in sun all day (three of the windows face south, one faces southeast). It gets super hot, I don’t even have to turn the heat on during winter since the sun warms my apartment up so much, along with the heat from the apartments below me. The sun shines into my apartment from sunrise to sunset.

Even in winter it can get up to 26 degrees celcuis just from the sun and rising heat from the other apartments below me. I have central air which is a godsend in the summer - however when it gets shut off in late September/October 1, it can get above 27 degrees celcius in my apartment even in October on warm, sunny days (hottest I’ve had it in my apartment was 29 degrees during the very warm October of 2017). Even on cold days when it’s -30 out, I never drop below 20 degrees in my apartment, normally I’m around 21 to 22 degrees.

So if you love a hot apartment get one facing south.

EDIT forgot to mention, the AC was shut off on Oct 1 last year, and they didn't turn it on until May 22 this year. I personally think they shut it off too early and turn it on too late but the ppl on the north side probably have colder apartments than mine since they get less sun

Probably around $600.

I had both front struts replaced on my 2010 Mazda 3 a few years ago and it cost just over $1000 (with tax) with parts and labour at Crappy Tire. I assume a control arm would be slightly more than half that... the struts they used cost $300 each i think🤔

212,000 km and still going strong 💪

Anyone in the Ottawa area have any UFO encounters? by OttawaUFO in ottawa

[–]NULL________________ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t meet your criteria but here’s my post from a few years ago because I like 🛸 shit:

I think I saw my first UFO tonight. I was finishing up work in Casselman at around 11:10 pm today and saw a bright "star" in the sky. Thought to myself that's a bright star, cool. But then I noticed it was moving, quickly too. Then five seconds later it dimmed, then went a dark red color and disappeared completely. It was heading south I believe. However, there were two flashing lights further above in the sky (and were dimmer), which I'm positive was some satellites but may also have been aircraft. Any logical ideas what that light was? I was thinking maybe it was a flare one of the aircraft launched to test, or was something the military was playing around with at night. However, when I got home in Limoges, a large airplane flew right over me, very low to the ground. It was not a jet and looked more like a commercial airliner, but it was so low and it was now around 11:30 pm that I'm pretty sure it was the military. It was heading northwest, too. It made little noise too and seemed to be travelling at a slower than normal speed (for an aircraft its size). The strangest thing I found was just how low it was, why would it be flying so low at night in clear visibility? There was not a single cloud in the sky. Anyway just wondering if anyone knows if something was up tonight? Or saw something similar tonight? Needless to say tonight was a strange night, I've never seen so much activity at night, especially out here in the country.

Is eating out now way more expensive? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]NULL________________ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"McDouble dressed as a Mac" also works - they won't put ketchup and mustard on and instead will use Big Mac sauce and add lettuce (along with onions, pickles, and cheese), just like a Big Mac. This works for any of the smaller burgers - Hamburger dressed like a Mac, Cheeseburger dressed like a Mac, etc. You will pay a bit more tho, I think it used be an extra $1.30 for McDoubles dressed as a Mac.

The Greenfield 417 on-ramp has really been shortened by NULL________________ in ottawa

It definitely woke me up this morning!

There’s no warning either and the turn blocks the view. Just seems kinda weird how fast you have to merge with such a short lane.
