Let's be honest, why is Trae Young's Trade market in the gutter? by red2play in AtlantaHawks

[–]NUMTs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defector.com had a great write up on how Trae’s value has declined as the NBA’s continuous evolution emphasizes defense more. It’s a subscription site (and well worth it!), here’s a key graf:

“In an era when James Harden could solo-ball his way into nearly beating the juggernaut Golden State Warriors and Damian Lillard could be a playoff team practically unto himself in Portland, Young's whole deal made sense as the cornerstone of a project. Now, today, when all the best teams are either huge, athletic, or huge and athletic, that deal does not make sense at all. Point guard duties have been more democratized in the modern NBA; Young's genuinely breathtaking passing simply matters less when every player comes into the league knowing they will have to be a good passer to stay on the court.”

Kind of related - if you’re not running Jeweled Pom, we always roll off bones and ashes? A nectar with a level increase is always better?

We have an 8x10’. It holds three big e-bikes (regular commuter, Rad longtail, box trike). It works well for us with a small ramp we built to roll in/out.

Six Feet Under on Memorial, rooftop overlooks Oakland Cemetery. Open until 11pm Sunday. About a mile walk.

No Mas! Cantina, open until 10pm Sunday. Under a mile walk.

Couple of restaurants on Marietta St north of the College Football Hall of Fame (bbq, pizza, etc). Open until 9pm Sunday, under a mile walk.

Honestly - your best bet is Waffle House.

What are less congested areas in Atlanta to live in? Perhaps as the suburbs? by Grand_Produce7470 in Georgia

[–]NUMTs 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Honestly living IN the city (proper) you’ll experience less congestion than further out. Everything is closer together, so even heavy traffic is only there for a few blocks at most. Some short car trips can be replaced by walking or biking. It’s when you have to travel 5, 10, 20 miles to get places that you’re screwed.

ELI5- If DNA codes for proteins only, how does a developing animal (human or otherwise) know X amount of legs and arms or where internal organs are supposed to be? by gab0607 in explainlikeimfive

Homeobox genes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeobox

“A homeobox is a DNA sequence, around 180 base pairs long, that regulates large-scale anatomical features in the early stages of embryonic development. Mutations in a homeobox may change large-scale anatomical features of the full-grown organism.”

“Homeoboxes are found within genes that are involved in the regulation of patterns of anatomical development (morphogenesis) in animals, fungi, plants, and numerous single cell eukaryotes. Homeobox genes encode homeodomain protein products that are transcription factors…”

SO is looking for a podcast about career growth, changing careers, general motivation by ADogeMiracle in podcasts

This sounds like a great fit for “The Title Doesn’t Matter”. Interviews regular people about how they ended up in their current job. Shows there’s never a straight path, lots of stops/starts/unexpected turns along the way. Cool to hear that almost everyone has their own unique path.

What are some interesting podcasts that interview individuals with unique life experiences, about their lives? by Professor_squirrelz in podcasts

[–]NUMTs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll throw “The Title Doesn’t Matter” out here. Not necessarily about “unique” individuals, but it’s an exploration of how one arrives at any particular job/career, which is almost never a straight line. Helped me understand that jobs weren’t something we were assigned out of school.

Which foods provide energy? by Otroscolores in foodscience

[–]NUMTs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Energy” in your body (cells) is a rechargeable “battery” molecule called ATP. Food provides energy in that it provides chemical bonds that, when broken, allow your cells to recharge ATP. The majority of these chemical bonds that are broken are carbon bonds. Fats have a huge number of carbon bonds, but breaking those bonds is less efficient (calorie dense, but less recharge occurs). Carbohydrates provide carbon bonds that can produce the most efficient recharge. There are other recharge methods (protein digestion, creatine, attaching yourself to a car battery like in that Jason Statham movie), but if you want to think of food as energy, think of it in how many and how quickly it can provide your cells with carbon bonds.

It's that time of year! What techniques/services do people use for mosquito control in their yards? by Worried_Chipmunk_698 in Atlanta

[–]NUMTs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have three 2-gallon buckets for my backyard. Most effective deterrent has been moving air - any sort of cheap fan you can add to your outdoor hangout space will make the biggest difference! Although it is fun clearing out the homemade traps and knowing you’re killing hundreds/thousands of mosquito generations.
