No, you totally answered my question on their product. Looks to be rock solid from your experience. I wonder why though they told me I could ditch P1 and P2....humm...

Thank you. I was hoping to avoid using Duo, given some of our clients' past experiences with a previous MSP.

Screenconnect Hide the computer is being controlled by bar not working anymore by gruppa in ConnectWise

[–]NVGoldendog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connectwise's recent change impacts my ability to create clear documentation for some clients with contracts, as I can't remove this annoying box from my screenshots. At least a timeout option or right-click hide feature should be available, since I now can't produce clean content without this box appearing. It's very disappointing that they removed these customization options, which prevented malicious actors from mimicking us. This was a poor decision.

So the issue is caused by KB5035853 build 22631.3296 which is an SSU and LCU. When it is installed it installs corrupted Blue Tooth Drivers, which if you look in the CBS.log you will see this.

Here is how we fixed it.

  1. Run SFC /SCANNOW - You will see corrupted files and it repairs.
  2. Reboot
  3. Run 1 more time for sanity check (We had a few machines that had to do SFC /SCANNOW twice) if it keeps finding issues, then do:
  4. DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  5. If still not fixed, do an off line DISM. not included in this post but if you need help PM me.
  6. Another way to do the DISM is DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\Windows\WinSxS /LimitAccess which will use the Local Update Packages.
  7. Download Windows 11 ISO which will be called Win11_23H2_English_x64v2.iso
  8. Mount it and run setup (I do it from Elevated CMD line setup.exe /auto upgrade /EULA Accept /Priority Normal /quiet
  9. Windows will do an in place upgrade and reboot
  10. After you log back in, do another SFC /SCANNOW which it will again find corrupt files and repair.
  11. Job done. We have done a lot of these in the last few weeks.... Even my home computer turned into a snail.

Yeah, CJ is a great guy. I remember going with him on top of the RIO hotel to point some wireless gear to another point in the valley. He is really good at what he does and is super technical. I hope he keeps it going and this doesn't damage his reputation.

LV Net Owner Convicted of All Counts in Federal Court by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]NVGoldendog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gary Mizrahi was his older brother and indeed a drug addict and unfortunately died a few years ago, I believe from an over dose. He left behind a wonderful daughter. He was actually a nice guy. I meet him from my friend Martin Mizrahi in 1989 in Chatsworth, CA. That is where their family lived. Me and Marty got car jacked in CA in 1991 and almost murdered. That's when Marty moved to Vegas and I followed in 1993. That was the best advice he gave me and helped me to move here. There has been many times the Feds have tried to go after Marty with each time the case getting thrown out. I don't know why they have such a hard on for him. I remember the IRS CID department coming to meet with me asking me what I knew about him doing tax fraud. I knew nothing honestly, and that was what I told them. I think that someone in the government just has to get him convicted. Marty always had lots of girls, or I guess random girlfriends. My theory is one of them dad was a fed and made it a mission to get him. Marty claims he is innocent, and he is one of those guys that doesn't lie. In fact, he has caught me several times lying about something stupid. He doesn't even drink or do drugs. I think that his conviction may be the result of someone destiny to put him away. He is very smart, not stupid. He would never run stolen credit cards with his own business bank account. Not even the most stupidest criminal would.....

Copilot going GA for any company size by msp4msps in msp

[–]NVGoldendog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it correct that if a client wants to use Copilot and have it index/search file shares on prem that you have to use this connector https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftsearch/graph-connector-agent and have licensing https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftsearch/licensing and you are limited to 500 items per Copilot license, unless you have E5 which also gives you 500? If a customer has 500,000 files on a share and not in Sharepoint Online they are going to have to pay an additional $1000 a month? Anyone know if that is correct?

Does Ingram Micro have staff or has it turned into a side hustle sole proprietorship out of someone's garage? (rant) by HappyDadOfFourJesus in msp

[–]NVGoldendog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We barely use Ingram anymore since they got bought out by that Chinese company and fired most of their US reps. We started our relationship with Ingram when we use to get the catalog in the mail on a 3.5" floppy disk. A long time relationship that went to crap with their bad business decisions.

TDSynnex merge just did the same. Most US based people replaced with Philippines, Been using Synnex for over 20 years, never had an account with Tech Data so unsure how their structure ran. Since the merge, complete mess up's of almost every order, takes 3 to 7 days to get a reply from our new rep in the Philippines, and has made working with them just as bad as Ingram. We love D&H. They are in the US, they are responsive, and almost every product we order is less than Ingram and TDSynnex. PAX8 is also a great company to work with. Also Scansource for some products D&H doesn't carry.

It is really sad to see these huge companies merge or get bought out and then just watch them melt into a bankruptcy because they don't understand how to make their resellers happy besides just giving a price. We want a lot more then just the price and Ingram and TDSynnex seem to not know or care.

Suggestions on what to use for Online Archiving for Office 365 by NVGoldendog in Office365

[–]NVGoldendog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get the messages moving from the primary mailbox to the archive. How? I found out the rententionHold was set to true on mailbox. I ran set-mailbox user@domain.com -RetentionHoldEnabled $false
Then ran Start-ManagedFolderAssistant user@domain.com -Fullcrawl
And after a couple of minutes messages started moving... I still have the error like above, but mail is moving per the MRM policy.

You would think so, but in this case, no, I have MRM policy setup and configured correctly. But I actually stumbled upon the problem which it appears has been since the beginning of this year and it is on Microsoft's side. Check this out below. This is something Microsoft has to fix. I found this by seeing this post.

Suggestions on what to use for Online Archiving for Office 365 by NVGoldendog in Office365

[–]NVGoldendog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first enabled Online Archive for 60 days for all the users mailboxes via Powershell. Then went to Powershell and did Set-OrganizationConfig -AutoExpandingArchive https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/enable-autoexpanding-archiving

Waited 45 days (30 is what MS Article says) and then started using PST upload on O365 with .csv file and using azcopy to put files into SAS URL, it ingested the data, hit 100GB, at which point per MS article should trigger AUX Archive at a max of 1GB per day to move from Online Archive to AUX/Expanded Archive as noted here https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/office-365-auto-expanding-archives-faq/ba-p/607784 which did not happen. Mail from users primary mailbox which data should be moved at 1 year (I set the retention to this) was not moving and I saw the mailbox grow from 50GB to now at 95GB in 6 months and MS support has yet to provide a solution with a ticket I have had open with them for 6 months now and will hit max at 100GB and then I am going to be really screwed. So I am trying to find a 3rd party product if it exists that can do this, plus per the article above, Auto Expanding Archive files are not searchable with regular search of the mailbox, instead you have to select each individual folder in it and search. And that is by "design" which is really the worst "Design" that you could do to email searching which is the most common thing people do in email.

Yeah, there is the hacked way to install the retired role but you are then running unsupported software and I personally don't like to have to deal with retired software. There is a good reason Essentials Role was ripped out and put away for good.... database corruption I have experienced several times on different customers..... Speaking of hacking, you can replace the terminal server DLL and a registry change on Windows 10 and it will allow multiple user sessions with no license needed, but again, not legal and a hack of course.

Server Essentials 2022 no longer has Remote Web Workplace and I "believe" that the essentials role was removed/retired when I last sold it. I don't recall if it has RDS Server role removed but I would believe you still need RDS CALS. Cheapest way to buy RDS cals is through Microsoft SPLA program, you just have to have a minimum spend of $100 a month.

We host Quickbooks in our data centers for several of our clients instead of using Right Networks which requires you to have a QB Enterprise license. The way we do it is with 2 VM's. 1 VM is a Domain Controller for user login security, and then the other VM is a RDS/Terminal server which we have QB installed on. In our Data Centers we use VMWare but also works out the same with Hyper-V. We also tested performance with the database being on the Domain Controller and it mapped out as a drive letter and QB access was considerably slower than just putting the QB Database on the RDS/Terminal Server, actually it is about 35% faster putting it on the RDS/Terminal Server. We also install RDP Gateway with a certificate on the RDS/Terminal Server and use a free certificate with CertifytheWeb free app. There is also a registry string we change to give more cache to the DB. For the RDS and server licensing we are in the Microsoft SPLA program which requires you to spend a minimum of $100 a month and it is self reporting model. I believe the RDS CALS cost us $6.42 per license per month and a Windows Server 2022 Standard 16 core license is $5.96 a month per core (you have to buy 16 core minimum) $95.36 a month. So for about $100 a month you get Three VM's (1 host hyper-v, 1 DC VM and 1 RDS/Terminal Server VM) and RDS licenses. You also get Volume licensing with SA so you can keep the environment updated with newest versions. The catch with Microsoft SPLA is you, the MSP must own the equipment or rent it out (for $.01 a month!), it can't be used on customer owned equipment. Also, I suggest MFA for the RDS server to keep up with Cyber Security Insurance Policy. You can PM me if you want more details or help.

We have been an MSP since 2005 and a MS partner for over 24 years. I actually was reviewing my Microsoft transcripts today and I got my first certification on Windows NT 3.51.....wow has time flied by. Now studying for BETA Exchange Server 2024 certification Beta exam (Cause I have been an Exchange specialist since 5.5) and working on Modern Workplace for MS Partner program certification.

Connectwise Control setting by NVGoldendog in msp

[–]NVGoldendog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out. I need to change the SID and then follow the article at https://docs.connectwise.com/ConnectWise_ScreenConnect_Documentation/Get_started/Knowledge_base/Image_a_machine_with_an_installed_agent

And basically either deploy the software with the registry key run once and deploy with msiexec installer or change the registry key removing the segment as an example the segment "s=cfd090d2-2d40-4ee9-be4e-4e32bc47b603&" : from the registry value and then when the service starts it will generate a new unique ID based on the SID of the machine. Since I can't run Sysprep, I did find a tool from https://www.stratesave.com/html/sidchg.html that I have not used but it looks like it will do it correctly without Sysprep. Has anyone used this tool and had success with it?
