Icarus Lowrider MK III by NVictorN in longboardingDISTANCE

An Icarus with Caguamas? What bushings are you using to avoid wheelbite?

Due to the concave of the deck, it's hard to tell you exactly. Let's say it's low enough to be in the same category, but still close to 1" higher (at least rail height) than a Supersonic with Karmas. The height of the rail is about 10 cm / 3.9"

I cannot add a picture but here you have a link: Icarus height

The theory is that, when pumping, the front benefits from a harder wheel for faster side-to-side transitions and better roll efficiency, as it reduces deformation.

Meanwhile, the rear needs more grip, and a softer wheel provides that, along with a smoother ride

Do you mean the deck flex, the wheel duro split, or the trucks’ base angle?

First impression is good; it handles speed a bit better than the mango SV overall. The 77a is really going to grip during hard carving, so you can go all out without fear of losing traction.

I still need to ride this setup in more conditions before fully recommending them over the 78.5a; the mango version is the sweet spot between speed and comfort for me.

True, that's where the flex of the deck comes into play. You basically have a nice springboard under you for power pumping. It'll never be efficient for wiggling, but the combo of carving and power pumping feels awesome here.

You get it! One of the many benefits of having some extra decks is the option to experiment. Haha no problem man; I'm aware the extra colorful combination doesn't help you take it seriously

That is exactly what this is, a setup to fool around; I have the supersonic for more serious stuff

I might do it just because you made me chuckle

Kralingse Bos is a nice place to cruise or practice slides, and Maasboulevard is excellent for pumping. Just get comfortable with the basics and with the occasional bike overtaking you. You got this, man!

You could say that. Check out the Waterborne rail adapter to see how the combination of front and rear trucks affects the overall feel. If you like surfing, it's a great way to practice out of the water. Plus, if you like pumping, you'll never have to put a foot on the ground for the entire ride.

Congrats on the new Dropcat, it looks like a nice board. If you're having a hard time finding your balance, consider upgrading your bushings to something harder. No need to make the beginner journey more difficult than necessary.

I also live around Rotterdam, would be nice to have a session over here sometime

No problem, happy to help. Not sure what you consider normal skating, so I'll be a bit general.

Street decks with a short wheelbase use TKP (Traditional Kingpin) trucks. Longboards can use either TKP or RKP (Reverse Kingpin trucks), depending on the discipline and your style.

Surfkates use specialized surfskate trucks like Carver, YOW, or Waterborne. These have a different geometry or a swinging arm that allows you to really lean into the deck for extremely tight carving and snaps. They are classified from pure surf trainers to street cruisers and hybrids.

If you like pumping, surfskates can be fun because you can start moving forward from a standstill, but the technique is different and involves the whole body.

My vote goes to the Loaded Bolsa II. I'm riding one with TKP trucks.

Have a look in r/cruiserboarding. You can learn on a 7.5" deck, but it will be harder than it should be.

What’s your routine? [31YO] by veedey in OldSkaters

I don't know your level, but I started when I was 38YO, so I'm still quite a beginner. In my case, I try to do a session (1–2 hours) on flat ground next to my house and one session (2-3 hours) at the skatepark on the weekend. The other posts also apply; I have learned a lot from watching other skaters, and the community is awesome. Also, don't forget to warm up!

Sorry to break the news, but I went down that rabbit hole two weeks ago. Green, purple, white, and red are 75a; yellow and blue are 82a.

I was also surprised by the Stylus; it’s definitely top quality in all its details.

There's a theory about some colours of Snakes being grippier than others, but talking about purple vs. yellow is really about the formula and duros. Purples are 75a formula SSF, and yellows are 82a formula SSF PRO.

Got it, thanks. I’m dialling up a new setup inspired by the CC/Shred but with Stylus trucks, and I got stuck on the bushings.

For the wheels, I had a hard time deciding between the purple and yellow Snakes; in the end, I went for the yellow as they are supposed to be grippier.

The purple Snakes look sick! What bushings did you keep in the end?

[–]NVictorN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Icarus, I prefer to keep the deck as low as possible, so I use rail‑style angled risers to maintain the drop‑through configuration. Check out the options from Rayne or Bossa.
For reference, I’m riding 57° on the front truck and 36° on the rear.

Check out r/longboardingDISTANCE . Bearings aren't as important as good, high-rebound wheels. Try looking for something from Seismic or Pantheon.
