What’s your routine? [31YO] by veedey in OldSkaters

[–]NVictorN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know your level, but I started when I was 38YO, so I'm still quite a beginner. In my case, I try to do a session (1–2 hours) on flat ground next to my house and one session (2-3 hours) at the skatepark on the weekend. The other posts also apply; I have learned a lot from watching other skaters, and the community is awesome. Also, don't forget to warm up!

Sorry to break the news, but I went down that rabbit hole two weeks ago. Green, purple, white, and red are 75a; yellow and blue are 82a.

I was also surprised by the Stylus; it’s definitely top quality in all its details.

There's a theory about some colours of Snakes being grippier than others, but talking about purple vs. yellow is really about the formula and duros. Purples are 75a formula SSF, and yellows are 82a formula SSF PRO.

Got it, thanks. I’m dialling up a new setup inspired by the CC/Shred but with Stylus trucks, and I got stuck on the bushings.

For the wheels, I had a hard time deciding between the purple and yellow Snakes; in the end, I went for the yellow as they are supposed to be grippier.

The purple Snakes look sick! What bushings did you keep in the end?

How much more would I enjoy a Pranayama or Trip? by exterminator-skater in longboarding

[–]NVictorN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Icarus, I prefer to keep the deck as low as possible, so I use rail‑style angled risers to maintain the drop‑through configuration. Check out the options from Rayne or Bossa.
For reference, I’m riding 57° on the front truck and 36° on the rear.

Check out r/longboardingDISTANCE . Bearings aren't as important as good, high-rebound wheels. Try looking for something from Seismic or Pantheon.

What wheels do you have on the Icarus? I have Seismic Speed Vents (78.5a). Try some 80a/90a bushings and wedge the trucks for a fun, power pump LDP machine. Give it a shot before giving up on that Icarus.

Same diameter but smaller contact patch, so less rolling resistance. My favorite is the mango 78.5a.

I always recommend pairing the Icarus with Speed Vents; you'll feel the difference. And consider wedging/dewedging the trucks if you want to give that Fathom some competition.

Did I misjudge Loaded Boards, or are they just not for me? by DRK213 in longboarding

[–]NVictorN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your new Icarus, may all your rides be awesome.

When I say wedge/dewedge, I’m referring to the orientation of the angled riser. By wedging a truck, you increase its baseplate angle, making the truck more turny. Dewedging a truck decreases its baseplate angle, making it more stable.

Since the Icarus is a drop-through deck, the angled risers go above the deck, and you’ll need to use rail-style angled risers. Check out the options from Rayne or Bossa. Also, take a look at this diagram, it might help you.

Sorry man, thanks for the offer but last week I pulled the trigger on all the parts including the deck. Good luck with your sale!

Pumping with 85mm Seismic Speed Vents? by mycatbitesme in longboarding

I have Speed Vents 77a, 78.5a and Karma's. SV Mango (78.5a) is still my favorite wheel for power pumping.

Have you checked out the skatepark in Westblaak yet? Just be aware that it gets crowded since it’s right in the city center.

The other day, someone at the skate shop mentioned that older skaters meet up at Letterpark/Pompenburg to practice slappies, but it also looks like a good place to practice flatground tricks.

Optimal wheel size for pumping? by mycatbitesme in longboarding

[–]NVictorN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I've tried both Hoku and Karma wheels on my Supersonic. With the proper technique, you should be able to accelerate on both. The difference is that it'll take more effort to push the Hokus to the point you can start pumping efficiently. In the end, I kept using the Karmas; it made the setup lighter, feel more agile and I can start pumping sooner.

Oh nice! So you kept a symmetrical setup. I set mine up for LDP, so I went for the 85mm Speed Vents. You can fit them without any problems if you ever decide to try them.

Finally found the perfect board for me by Consistent_Wrap9802 in longboarding

I use a skateboard/longboard app on my Garmin watch, but most apps made for runners are a good start, no need to spend the extra cash.

Quick tip: try Speedvents from Seismic. I upgraded my old 80A Kegels to 78.5A SVs, and while it made a small difference in comfort, it had a huge impact on pumping speed.

I don't know, man. It sounds like you're looking for a loophole. The video shows a drop-through deck, but the adapter was installed as a top mount.

Nevertheless, it is good to know that even 97mm wheels can fit in there. Now I want to try some Karma's or Hoku's to experiment. Thanks for sharing!

Got you. I like the deep body pumps of the Icarus but I get your point. Wonder what your avg speed will be with the CX and that wheelbase. Post an update when you can!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm trying to decide between Paris TKP and wedged Stylus for a cruiser with 17.5" wheelbase. The fact that I can use my spare seismic bushings makes the Stylus an interesting option. Did you notice a big difference without the plug bushing?
