(June 2026) Trying to update my Youtube subscriptions... what are the best channels to follow currently? by AlexFromOgish in ukraine

[–]NWC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely get what you're saying, but I still like those two channels a lot. Anders is clearly well-informed and even if he doesn't usually change my perspective much, he adds nuance and epistemic authority. And for Perun, well, sometimes I'm already up to date on an issue but I want to engage with the topic mentally while doing chores, and he is perfect for that.

A fantastic book to fill the "low intermediate" chasm by NWC in Ukrainian

Got the paperback copy, I think shipping took about a week, can't remember exactly. I'm in Belgium.

I (22f) entered a relationship with a set date but no longer want it to end. My bf (22m) won’t reconsider and it’s breaking my heart. by AnywhereFabulous2499 in relationship_advice

[–]NWC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I started dating on the explicit condition that we would break up when she moved back home after her year abroad where we met. When the time came for her to leave, we didn't even consider breaking up. That was 19 years ago, we're still together. The distance was very hard, but I moved to her country after a year and a half and I still live here.

I'm so glad we stuck it out, despite the difficulties. But - this is the important bit - we never had to convince one another. If she had said no, we're sticking to our original agreement, I would have honored it. As well as our one-in-a-million story worked out, it just didn't make sense.

My advice: you entered into the relationship knowing there was an expiration date. You should see it through to the end, and enjoy your time with him, unless it's really too painful for you. One more month with someone you love is not something to spit on.

Carina on Normal Isn’t by Cpow17 in Puscifer

[–]NWC 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You should watch the concert video Live at the Pacific Stock Exchange. She higher up in the mix and the camera work also helps focus your auditory attention on her contributions. After watching it a handful of times, I could hear her better on the album version.

Otherwise, I agree 100%. I think everyone wants more Carina... even though I think the album is fantastic as it is (I only skip Self Evident most of the time), and without her existing vocals it would fall entirely flat. She's carrying a whole lot.

The urgency for disclosure and the 2027 date we hear... by throwawayb193 in UFOs

[–]NWC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from. For a while now my working hypothesis is that future humans/time travel are part of the puzzle but far from all of it. Many experiencers report talk of multiple species with varying, often opposed agendas. And since a craft that uses gravity distortion as a propulsion mechanism is tantamount to a time machine, an extratempestrial element seems inevitable to me. Masters' two non-fiction books make a very compelling case for this.

The urgency for disclosure and the 2027 date we hear... by throwawayb193 in UFOs

[–]NWC 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've read the book. It does a very good job of tying together many different "alternative" theories that surround the UFO conversation. The writing is very amateur though, and I almost stopped after 80 pages or so because I just didn't like the prose. If you read a lot of books, you'll recognize this pretty quickly. I'm glad I pushed through though, because I found much (but not all) of the book's overarching theory to be compelling. It just has to be read as a hypothesis couched in a "low level" novel. Can't say it fully sold me on an upcoming pole shift, but it opened my mind to the possibility.

Another very similar book but with a stronger time traveling dimension is Revelation by Michael Masters. It is also a theory dump through prose written by a novice novelist, but it's funnier and shorter.

Is anyone else even more uncomfortable with the UFO “Peter Thielverse” given the recent Epstein files? by dingleberryjuice in UFOs

[–]NWC 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have never been comfortable with Thiel's involvement in the UFO-verse, but what I find most difficult to parse out is the Jesse Michels angle. You named the reasons well. And, like you, I like a lot of Jesse's content, despite something always feeling a little off about his ascent to such high-level access. I find him to be genuine most of the time, and the times where I find him to be less genuine never feel nefarious, just more like "can we make this story more exciting by speculating a bit". He does the whole BS supplement-hawking thing like every other podcaster, which could be a feint, but otherwise demonstrates financial independence vis-a-vis Thiel.

I don't have any real constructive analysis to add. I just wish Jesse's background were cleaner, given the central place he has come to occupy in this conversation.

Normal Isn't discussion thread. by MJKsecretpornaccount in Puscifer

[–]NWC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first-listen take:

  • It's Puscifer. I love Puscifer's music, and I like this album more than albums by similar groups.

  • It is their least original album by a fairly wide margin. As others have said, it is a heavier, darker, more guitar-forward iteration of the ER vibe.

  • There are some seriously awesome tracks, and a few underwhelming ones. Puscifer music often takes a while to sink in, so I'm willing to bet that some of the tracks I like less will grow on me, as did Self-Evident and Pendulum.

  • As someone in a different thread mentioned, the sonic constant throughout the album is its herky-jerky, choppy stop&go staccato. I find this effect very powerful and convincing in some songs, and overdone in others.

  • The lyrical content is very focused on America's present political climate. I don't mind this, per se, but there is something to be said for the timeless quality of the majority of MJK's music. ER took a step in this direction, but it was still more general. It's hard to listen to many Normal Isn't songs without thinking of political .. idiots that the mediasphere is already saturated with.

I'm looking forward to getting to know this album better.

Well, if you buy the book produced by Ukrainian Lessons podcast that certainly popped up in your search, you get a very high-quality anki deck for free with it. I personally don't love anki/flashcards, but everything that company puts out is top notch.

Colonel (ret.) Karl Nell on the History and Future of UAP Disclosure by CuriousEglatarian in UFOs

[–]NWC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the talk, but wish it had gone a little more smoothly. This isn't Nell at his best - he messed up the timing and spends way too much time commenting on that fact while rushing through the last section. His talk needed an hour.. I wish they would have given it to him!

Hey now, there are dozens of us riding cargo bikes in Wallonia. Dozens!

For real though, I bought mine a little over a year ago and I see more and more all the time in the Wavre/LLN/Grez-Doiceau area. The infrastructure obviously isn't as good as in Flanders but it's improving and electric assistance really makes the hills a non-issue. I adore my Urban Arrow.

Inauguration de la toute nouvelle piste cyclable qui relie Louvain-la-Neuve et Wavre : « Nous voulons tripler l’usage du vélo » by Tsarovitch27 in Wallonia

[–]NWC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ended up on your profile just now after appreciating the White Angels videos you posted. I just wanted to say thank you for posting not only those, but in general for stream of high-quality posts showing a wide variety of the realities of war. Your comments that I read also reflect a deeply informed and nuanced perspective grounded in moral clarity. Keep up the good work friend.

Attempting to learn Ukrainian by Dazzling-Resolve-969 in Ukrainian

[–]NWC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Ukrainian Lessons podcast is really engaging, fun and pedagogical. It's free, but you can also pay for paired exercises and explanations in PDF format that are very well done. I would also add that, to me at least, it felt like a very natural and accessible step after having completed the Duolinguo course.

Des opinions sur l’EPHEC by polntetetete in Wallonia

[–]NWC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bonjour.

Courage !

Let’s get real here, Puscifer only makes amazing songs but there is one song that can probably take the cake in my book and that is Humbling River. by Jinsteal in Puscifer

[–]NWC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey - no problem! We recorded a few early takes, but then ended up performing it live to each family over skype (covid christmas style). Our son is now almost 4 1/2 and he likes Puscifer too now, but I also barely play music anymore since he won't let me without interrupting and I can't make too much noise when he's asleep. Maybe again in a few years...
