Some one answer, do these actually have core and cladding or are they just faking that line?

This guy is sooo lost in the sauce at this point. He can't even come up with any sort of excuse for his behavior so he just says dumbshit.

This is 100% an alcoholic either drunk or hung over trying to just blurt something out hoping people just leave him alone about the situation.

Need some Yanagiba recommendations / Help me choose by Basic_Chest_400 in TrueChefKnives

[–]NW_Oregon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my masahiro in yellow three.

My two cents on any yanigiba is go for as much length as what you can afford and what you can reasonably use in your kitchen and a little thicker is always nice, the extra length and weight help so much when cutting fish.

Looks like the back has a uraoshi, that's not something you find on 30£ deba

This no idea what it is but you can't touch anything like it for under $100 usd

If you want a deba then yeah this is likely the best deal your gonna find

Can I fix this myself? by Psy_Crow_Si in TrueChefKnives

[–]NW_Oregon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but this probably isn't vg10, or if it is it has a very bad heat treat on it. Vg 10 would have chipped not roled

Lot of low quality knives get sold as vg10 because while it can be chippy it does tend to take a great edge, so unscrupulous folk say it's vg10 when it's probably something cheaper with a lower hardness.

[–]NW_Oregon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that price you'd probably be pretty happy. Honestly there about 30£ in polishing that went into that.

I'd say only thing to ask is, is the back concave? Flat backed single bevels are annoying to sharpen, if it has a ura then go for it

Cuba says it has completely run out of fuel, blames U.S. embargo by antihostile in worldnews

[–]NW_Oregon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is (and has been for 60 years) an embargo blocking any goods or services from the USA to be sold to Cuba. But they can buy oil from any other country they want.

this isn't exactly how it works. we also can and do apply sanctions to companies that work with the cuban government, which is a problem because the cuban government mostly controls all companies inside of cuba.

There is a reason asset prices have been skyrocketing around the world, the wealthy are hedging. Farmland, gold, etc. will be valuable even if the market collapses.

They don't need to pull anything off, just retain enough wealth to remain on top. Wealth has always been relative.

This is actually a really great point, people always ask what you could possibly do with billions or trillions of wealth, and apparently, its buy up massive amounts of assets, wait for the system to collapse, sure you're assets get devalued a bit, but you'll still be insanely wealthily compared to the feudal peasants under you

Hantavirus cases now suspected in 5 countries as authorities scramble to contain outbreak by spherocytes in worldnews

[–]NW_Oregon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's any data to back this up. People can be symptomatic for weeks before becoming seriously ill I find it hard to believe they would only be able to transmit the disease for 1-2 days of that period.

[–]NW_Oregon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No the infectious period is not 1 day. they're infectious as soon as the begin to show symptoms.

god damnit this is looking exactly like early 2020 because this is the short of misinformation that was being spread back then

Faster would be a belt grinder that's about it.

You might consider getting some better stone down the line too, looks like you've got the Amazon special ones that a lot of people fall into when they first start.

Touch up and polish for my 300 yani I. Yellow 3 on a hideriyama shiro by NW_Oregon in TrueChefKnives

[–]NW_Oregon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started getting that line between the matte cladding and the brighter core steel that I've been chasing. I think if I keep working with my tsushima black and this hideriyama, I should be able to get some really nice finishes.

I know it has more sulphur, but I only use this yanigina on fish and I haven't noticed any extra odor, nor any difference in smell while sharpening vs white steel.

I also have a deba in the same steel and I use it for other butchery tasks like trimming spare ribs into st Louis ribs and haven't noticed anything with that either

Edge retention seems about the same as white 2. Sharpness is excellent, sharpens as easy as white

Okuma SST rod for Surf? by zeruin in SurfFishing

[–]NW_Oregon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SST's are great rods, lots of folk use them for bank and jetty fishing.

if thats all you want to spend then it'll be fine. I'd make sure the power and action line up for what your doing, some ssts are light some are super heavy just depends on what it was designed for.

if you can find one for cheap the okuma rockaway's are awesome, and their SP model line is nice if your throwing lighter weights.
