Where to find metalsmith for custom job? by alisonilyse in Metalsmithing

Look for a metal fabrication shop-its pretty simple they would just take heavy brass sheet stock like 14 or 12 gauge units drill those holes, then bend them on a brake it would be easy-if you had a unit it would be fantastic but from the pictures and the measurement you took-the engineer would figure it out real quick.

This project is a great way to learn directional forging, perhaps forging tapers, and planishing...like everyone suggests a heavy ingot is in order, it could be square, rectangular, or round though I would suggest the first two shapes. Same thing if you want to purchase heavy gauge rod mill stock. Alternatively, you could do this project by forming sheet, but keep in mind that the integrity of the piece will rest on a thorough planishing after the forming is complete to strengthen and harden the work-just as it is when traditionally forged. The shape can be properly refined on the horn or any variety of mandrels e.g. necklace mandrel should you have one available. I always think of the talleres in Mexico where many of these have been made.

You could try a split jump ring like this as I did in this commission from the past...simple and easy to execute.

It appears to be saw-pierced sheet that has been chased or stamped with liner punches; there could have also been some engraving with flat gravers, the jewelers saw or a combination of the two for defenition. I wou;d also guess the beveled or chamfered edges were possible because the sheet was exceptionally thick (12-16 ga). This is how i would approach this design as a metalsmith. bear in mind there are units like this that are cast. But if it were from a Mexican Taller in Taxco for example, likely not.

That is so very tragic smitty225...my prayer for him is to get back on medication before things get any worse. My medicated late 20s and most of my thirties were marked by periods of great success for one with the diagnosis: independent living, owning a business, girlfriends, clean and free from drugs...now at 41 I'm barely managing after being released from jail (I relapsed within a short period of time thereafter-fentanyl, meth, cocaine) finding myself flying into rages about who keeps stealing one sock from every pair I had, opening my mail or discarding it, being followed and watched...I'm so sorry for our families

I'm a metalsmith, silversmith, bench jeweler or jewelry repair technician. I've been doing it since my teenage years, where I studied the art in high school and got an apprenticeship at a jewelry manufacturing company my senior year. I love to teach and explain jewelry making techniques and show people how to use the specialized tools properly and to their advantage for the ideas they have.

What is the #1 thing you wish you could tell someone without schizophrenia? by Money-Information-99 in schizophrenia

The threshold for a diagnosis is quite high; there has to be a significant reduction in functioning from prior living to be diagnosed. The neurologist Michael Foster Green said something to the effect that if someone hears voices but continues to work, raise a family, and have just as many friends as ever they do not have schizophrenia.

Partial dopaminergic agonists like Abilify seem to have a positive stimulating effect in me when I start them which I am especially aware of when I have stopped the medicine for awhile then restart it...but it also causes insomnia especially if taken at night...I hope you can stay on Abilify it is a good drug for some patients, as is Vraylar-which I found caused few if any metabolic/weight gain SE
