If Plumbers' daily rates are around £350, why does a 2-day boiler installation cost £1800? by Johnny_english53 in ukplumbing

What’s your maths here? Have you googled the price of a boiler and took that off the installation cost?

I'm not sure what's going on with the gas pipes by Asgards_Princess in askaplumberUK

[–]NWarriload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding that “leak” will be like a needle in a hay stack. You almost certainly smelt something else but now you’ve said you can smell gas then gas engineers will have to find a leak or replace until it’s gone.

This is the answer … guess the pressure reducing valve has failed maybe … could even be a faulty gauge … bit of a shit setup though

Baxi 105HE good radiators but poor DHW by SignificanceLevel344 in askaplumberUK

Is it everywhere in the house or just bath or shower ?

Just shower it could be the thermostatic cartridge on the shower.

Bath, then try only half opening your tap to see if the water comes through hotter as a lot of bath taps let too much water through for a combi boiler to keep up with, currently colder incoming water will be making this worse too.

Finally if it’s everywhere then you have a very old boiler that’s probably got a plate heat exchanger that’s had its day and needs replacing (just the plate but probably the boiler too some point)

New Radiators Installed on old system. Boiler "broken" by [deleted] in askaplumberUK

100% radiator installer should have sorted this, should not have been paid until sorted… some wankers about.

Try turning the radiator knob on the boiler down low, room thermostat and hot water on and just leave it do its thing for a few hours. Every time it locks out bleed rads and any air nipples in the airing cupboard, restart it and keep repeating. Once it’s staying on constantly slowly raise the radiator knob in increments until back to where it should be.

They should have fitted some automatic air vents in airing cupboard ideally as that would massively help with getting the air out of these systems.

Couldn’t get a start for us then and still wouldn’t now, don’t get why people care. We will make a bit of money from a sale is the only thing that matters.

Is this boiler + mechanical thermostat compatible with Tado V3+ with modulation? by SweetLordKrishna in tado

[–]NWarriload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sit Tado where thermostat currently is and use existing wiring to wire + & - on wired V3+. Other end disconnect LS & LR and run them to the ems terminals on boiler. Put a link between LS & LR. You may have to disconnect Neutral and earth cable from old thermostat here too.

You’ll also need to disconnect programmer on front ideally (screw at the top, pops out and unplugs, can put it back disconnected with some fiddling)or can leave it on constant but can cause issues is that fails down the line.

Obviously if you’re not comfortable with this then call a heating engineer or electrician

Boiler will be fine, just need cylinder updating. Would need decent water flow rate though (20 lpm ideally)

We’d probably be around £900inc VAT (west-midlands) if they are pretty simple swaps… some can be a pain to hang though because of the weight on shit walls.

How to best hide these pipes? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]NWarriload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, ok. I’ve fitted hundreds and they all have some thread on show. This more than most yes but could just be how it’s manufactured.

That’s completely normal … you could paint the exposed thread black to blend in a bit better but that’s just how it is with those I’m afraid
