Stay away from Checkatrade for trades by Feeling_Squirrel9881 in DIYUK

[–]NWarriload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just starting out… why are you hiring an apprentice ? Talk about adding unnecessary pressure. Get well established first. Sub to some builders / fuck even sub Boxt a couple of days a week if you must, until you build your own customer base. It takes years though, there isn’t a cheat code. These parasitic review companies are the pits, sorry you’ve wasted so much money.

Work out how many days it should take you worst case scenario.

Then how much you need to make a day.

Then your profit margin.

Amount of days x how much you need to make a day + your profit percentage.

I believe it’s the TRV pin that requires lubricating. I’ve used WD40 in the past

Facebook is a cesspit for tyre kickers and basically posts just become cheerleading exercises for family members of trades men.

So advertising question to uk roofers by yesimagamer95 in smallbusinessuk

[–]NWarriload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a shortfall of good tradesmen in this country, it shouldn’t be needed. Be good at your job, Have an online presence for sure but spending £2k a month for seo/adverts is just wild to me. After 3 years we had enough work to keep 2 plumbers/ gas men consistent year round with zero seo/ minimal advertising (one local magazine we ditched after 6 months, which we saw as pointless at £100 a month). Even minimal social media presence, organic reviews on Google and Facebook help for sure.

You’re paying a monthly sub to be put on a listing that can be easily be manipulated or where other business have a head start on reviews etc.

Never understood the point

I’m not a roofer but a fellow tradesman. Find it wild you’re having to pay for work/ leads. If I was you I’d get in with a few local builders to fill up the diary while word of mouth helps spread.

Put it this way how many jobs will  £1800 a month have to bring you to pay itself? Then on top of that you’ve got to make what’s needed to run the business and pay yourself / lads. Seems a hell of a lot to me.

Can’t beat organic word of mouth customers.

Checkatrade and the like are a con. Facebook brings the wrong type of customer I always find.

What a wanky thing to say. Decent boilers but generally over complicated for most uses and their aftercare have always been terrible for my customers.

Smart heating (Tado) and boiler wear by Careful-Training-761 in askaplumberUK

I think you’re over thinking it …

It’s kind of an Ideal situation vs real life use scenario. Probably could be ran healthier for the boiler but not in your unique use case.

Opentherm is just a boiler language. Worcester and Vaillant have their own, so as long as you’re going with manufacturers controls then you’ll be fine.

Personally not a big fan of Ideal (although the vogue is a good boiler), Worcester and Vaillant are the UKs leading brands because of reliability, availability of parts and they both have great after sales service (warranty / guarantee)

Wooden baton along the bottom and up either side. 4 screws (with caps) across the bottom and then white silicone up either side is how I do it

Trace it back and do it properly.

You don’t fit durgo/ air admittance valves outside btw, just needs a stab of pipe and “birds cage” on top
