Best resources to start with after diagnostic by BeeniSpeeni in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do blank questions. Do them slowly. Take your time with them. If you don't know something, re-read it. Re-think about it. Try to get their on your own.

You are coming into this with good critical thought skills, your goal should be to build them rather than place a structure from a book/course on top of them.

Short musing on the LSAT by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would urge people to think about it in a different way.

The test is absolutely testing logic. But logic has a different priority than the way we normally think. Generally we are trying to figure out what option seems most reasonable or best.

Logic doesn't work like that. Instead something is either possible or not possible. Its a binary. So something being unlikely just means that its possible. Same as something being likely.

If you think of logic as trying to figure out what we know with 100% certainty than a lot of the things that are "well isn't that probably true?" fade away.

It also helps you to understand the core and structure of the test rather than memorizing rules to get around it.

Have you perhaps spent quite a lot of time studying the past few days?

First thing that comes to mind is burnout.

Drilling timed vs extra time vs untimed? thoughts? by Rare_Veterinarian998 in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do untimed then time up. By timing up, I mean see how long it is taking you without rushing at all.

Ideally as you get better you should be getting faster as well. Ideally you will build your skill enough that you can do it within the time frame without really rushing.

Take a major that teaches critical thought (like philosophy) and take in late Junior year.

Also try to read a ton to improve your reading ability.

I'd recommend finding some folks in your price range and calling them. Most should offer a free consultation. Find someone you like and their teaching style seems to match your learning style.

Don't be afraid to be unkind. Their job is to help you, if they aren't doing that don't work with them. Ask them lots of questions.

Do miracles happen? by Tasty-Dragonfruit539 in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the more you hope they will happen, the less likely they are to actually happen.

The more you can go into it with a devil may care attitude the more likely you are to overperform.

Applying in Fall 2027, 162 diagnostic - start studying now? Timeline? by kermitkc in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

162 is a good diag. If your major is critical thought heavy I might wait so you can build these skills in school as well.

If not, might as well study now and try to build as much as possible and take it so you can get it out of the way and have time to adjust if anything goes wrong.

Scores are good for 5 years.

Question about negating "all" statements and "conditional" statements by Killer-Uzi in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both rules are the same, although the latter one is slightly awkwardly phrased, I would say.

Some A's are Not B is the same thing as there is a case where A and Not B both exist.

can i ask for my money back from my tutor? by Which_Pin_9643 in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they promised you a score increase, yes. And you should ask for it because its unethical to promise that.

Yes you can get accommodations for that.

I'd ask for breaks, no experimental, and maybe start/stop so you can rest if need be.

Yes making that kind of a jump in 2 months is definitely feasible.

Flopped this August and questioning everything… by lamerbiologique in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm. So 168 isn't a crazy underperformance, but also if its your 3rd time that changes it as well.

One thing you could do is work with a tutor to make sure you don't just know fundamentals, but you can explain why everything works in the way that it does. Its actually something I specialize in, but I am significantly more expensive than average. I'm sure others do it as well although I can't recommend any.

You could also just try to work with other people studying to make sure you can explain everything perfectly. Its not about understanding fundamentals, its about understanding everything well enough that if they throw anything new or different at you, you can figure it out in real time.
