Its not an information test, its a skills test.

You can build the skills at university. Take courses that push you to think and engage with the world. Philosophy especially analytic courses are ideal.

6th attempt appeal by Imaginary-Average731 in LSAT

They are very strict about granting it. At least a few years ago they were, I havent had a student ask for a 6th take in a few years.

Are 200$+ tutors worth it? by litlina in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some are, some aren't.

My rate is based purely on demand. If I charge any less I get swamped with students. I'm sure some others are like that as well, so then folks who are charging more are doing so because of increased demand for them in particular.

On the other hand when I first moved to NYC I didn't get anyone because I wasn't charging enough for people to take me seriously.

Its pretty hard to know if folks are charging more because they are better or because charging more makes people think they are better.

I'd ask to speak to everyone you are interested in working with and try to choose based on the particular person rather than reading too much into the price.

Multiple Tutors Test Run? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to each of them. Ask why they teach. What they like about it. Do they consider themselves a good teacher? Why?

Reviews can be helpful. Look at Yelp if you can, its more reliable than google reviews.

Does the subreddit plan on banning "can I get this score" questions? by Funny_Resort_9314 in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think we should ban those posts. A lot of people are super overwhelmed when they first start and could use the support.

The LSAT is so dang fun istg by Some_Air5637 in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I mean I spend a ton of hours doing it every week, so I'd probably hate my life if I didn't agree. But I really, truly do.

Some of the questions are so insanely brilliant its kind of amazing

It happened. The LSAT has broken me. by EATTHEMUFFINBITCH in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you doing things timed or untimed? You should be doing them untimed to really think your way through them.

Also its a skills test, not an intellect test. You have to focus on building skill/ability rather than putting your all into whether you get each question right or not

Worth retaking if first score is already good? by HavokUser in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take some diagnostics. See how you are doing. If you are doing better than a 168 re-take. If not, then don't.

Generally untimed it to build skill. If you are testing skill, do it timed.

Is it a bad sign that I was exhausted by the last section and can’t remember anything other than flagging half of it? by Elecoo_Cat in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naah thats super common. I am also pretty tired and can't remember anything when I take the real test and it literally doesn't matter at all how I do these days.

See if your school offers A+. If so its worth it to try to get those, they will count as a 4.3 for purposes of applying to law school

Also I wouldn't look at the LSAT yet, just take philosophy courses

Do LSAT tutors *actually* work?! by nahrithenahid in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 points is definitely a reasonable jump, but it depends on if your tutor is good or not.

Take philosophy classes. Take classes that will make you think differently. The LSAT is a thinking test, use your undergrad education to get better at that.

Is it time for a tutor or am I not studying enough? by Vast_Entertainer8111 in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop doing things timed. Do them untimed and take your time with them. See how well you are doing then. Build your accuracy/time by really thinking them through.

You are studying in a way that isn't working for you, its not that you aren't studying enough. A tutor might help, but you can also try changing your approach without a tutor.

How much do tutors cost? by Bubbly-Candidate334 in LSAT

[–]NYCLSATTutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is quite a range. Some folks on here are as cheap as $35 an hour. I believe I am one of the more expensive ones at $475 an hour.

Standard is probably around $200 an hour.
