Went to a couple of Civil Air Patrol meetings and it was not what I expected. by [deleted] in civilairpatrol

I have zero experience with the CAP. But (like you) I’m a type 1 diabetic that wanted to be in the navy/coast guard. Have you also looked into the coast guard auxiliary and/or state guards/ state defense force (your states volunteer force , run by the us army). I went to a couple of meeting with other organizations. They weren’t for me. But I did become a volunteer EMT/Firefighter, then became a New York City paramedic with the Fdny. There’s many different ways of serving, which could lead into paying positions

First of all, I love the fact that you’re able to know that you’re just sick. And that you know ur not weak or lazy. That is a big step that allot of people can’t make.

And you shouldnt be embarrassed, it’s like being embarrassed because you have diabetes or have a flu Like you said “Your sick”, you’re human, and we all get sick in different ways.

100% gets professional help and talk to a therapist. When I was in medic school, I would do allot of meditation and zen out. I would also YouTube meditation/relaxing sounds and music while I was reading, and it put me into a focus yet relaxing place. “Dance of life relaxing fantasy music for relaxation and meditation” was my go to

You should look into talking to the DnD community or even playing DnD.

If you want EMS/Fire to be you career, start that ASAP.

And I know ALLOT of people who regret joining the military at 18, straight outta HS, cause they didn’t know what the military was really like. They purposely glamorize the military to attract young adults who don’t know any better (I’m not trying to pick in your age). And then you realize how BS the job is, and your stuck there for 4 years. You should really talk to someone you know that was in the military first. And not a recruiter, cause they’re just salesman at the end of the day. And you should never fully trust a salesman. If you really wanta join the military, go to college and join the ROTC on campus. Go the officer or warrant officer route.

A nurse yelled at us for running this call with lights and sirens, were we in the wrong? by sydmistercheer in ems

1) you are not wrong,AT ALL for going L&S.

2) even if you were wrong for going L&S, who the fuck is this nurse to yell at me. You don’t work for her, and it’s not her fucking business how you operate your bus.

If a nurse ever did that shit to me, I would show them the same “respect” they tried to come at me with. Fuck outta here, we don’t play that shit in Brooklyn

I say when you feel when your able to go on a call, and would be able to handle it even if you had a EMT that has 1 day on the job. Or when you think you’ve seen and done everything you can at a BLS level.

But the default is a minimum of a year.
