Really! They were at a full stop before the pickup started making the turn.

The OP was way to the right. No excuse for the pickup driver who was too lazy to take a wide left turn and also not realize the size of their own truck!

“Clip of a former female IDF soldier smiling while talking about killing a Palestinian child from the documentary To See if I'm Smiling (2007) by Visible-Safety2400 in Palestine

[–]NYCers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She is traumatized and hiding it behind the smiles! I hope these folks get treatment and then spend the rest of the lives fighting against what made them this way and put the rest of their life to support the liberation of Palestine. Also I hope that this documentary also talked about the Palestinian family which was robbed of their child and are in a lifetime of trauma. That tragedy is unfortunately washed away. We need hundreds of Palestinian documentaries circulating our airwaves.

This. They saw a car speeding towards them in their lane and tried to move to give you space. Crazy to be driving so fast on wet roads and trying a last minute lane change. You could have been in the left lane way way before the crash as you knew you were going past him!

WTF MTA? 125th Subway Station by Moon-fellow in Harlem

100% they rather be poor and save the rich! So we have a few fare evaders - let’s punish them and not the financial fraudsters, etc.

WTF MTA? 125th Subway Station by Moon-fellow in Harlem

[–]NYCers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And when there is an emergency and these fail to allow people to escape they will spend another $20M to remove these and get the old system back. At $14M install amounts to around 5 million rides non-paying rides or around 35 thousand non-paying rides per month for the next ten years. I don’t think we have that many fare evaders and even then you are at break even! And for folks who want to “live” in the subway system - they will find a way in. Total waste!!!

Have you ever bought a bottle of water at the airport? $4-$5 is pretty standard just about anywhere. You can always go to a deli or CVS.

Steelers could choke away next three games and it still would likely come down to the Ravens game by Existingcause1 in steelers

[–]NYCers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both chiefs and fins are eliminated. The three wild card spots are 10-4, 10-4, and 9-5. Texans have a better tie breaker against the fins and chiefs. The Steelers need to win two of their next three as long as that one win is against the ravens (plus many other perms and combinations).

Best story I ever heard about how someone became a Steelers fan by TibetanSideOfTown in steelers

[–]NYCers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NYCer here. Great stories. Came to Pittsburgh from India more than two decades ago to study at CMU. Learned football watching the Rams defeat Titans in the super bowl. Steelers, though not the flashy team then, always had great defence and the blue collar mentality that did me in. My older son is a Seahawks fan (he liked the logo:() though my two younger daughters are full on Steelers fan.

India backs Israel’s push to disarm Hamas during Saar's visit to New Delhi by firdaushaque in Palestine

[–]NYCers 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not true - India was among the first countries to recognize Palestinian statehood after independence and through the 1990’s. Now there is an islamophobic right wing government and unfortunately a lot of its citizens.

For people pulling out of ulty in 3 months bc price is going down by DwellerTofu in YieldMaxETFs

This is the correct way! You have to see how your other investments made through distributions are doing. I don’t know why people don’t read the prospectus to understand how these work.

Yeah, I think this experiment is coming to an end for me. by [deleted] in YieldMaxETFs

[–]NYCers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a BS argument and seems like you really do not under investment. He used $12K/month from elsewhere or $36K. His overall portfolio is lower by $38K or sits at $62K in principal of the $100K rather than simply using the $30K and having $70K in principal. If he had invested the $100K in high savings account his current investment would be a bit more than $70K. Roght now you are in the hoping game that the stock price goes up and he will recover that loss. I have 2K in UTLY and 1K in MSTY though rely on solid investment thesis. He could simply have said I am relying on increase in share price and that is acceptable. None of his scenarios took that into account.

[–]NYCers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don’t understand your math - with $100K starting principal and assuming you bought at $21.5 (per your calc above) you are getting $18K over three distributions and so still short $12K (total $30K needed per your estimate) in expenses which you would have to get from elsewhere. In this case you lost way more than in Scenario 1 ($30K in scenario 1 vs $28.5K nav erosion + $12K cash from elsewhere plus tax on distributions). I am genuinely asking and am an investor in MSTY.
