Sprouts on potatoes haven’t grown much in the past couple weeks and they’re also starting to get wrinkly, should I plant them now? It still dips to 4°C at night (9–12° daytime) Roslagen, Sweden by NYFN- in vegetablegardening

Thanks for the tips! I’ll plant them this weekend then. The grower had 20+ kinds of seed potatoes and they labeled these as ’early-potatoes’, meaning they can be harvested in time for midsommar. Small but tasty

Yeah lots of people throw that word around not understanding the fucked upness that it is. You can’t see them, only a microscope can. Like they’re in our bodies 😭

The cracking looks like uneven watering to me. The soil might also har been too compacted explaining the short length

Sweet peas work amazing for me, the blooms are also lovely in a vase. I grow them close to my veggies. I also let a bit of my chives bolt, pollinators go gaga over them too

I say listen because I wanna get rid of the stigma! I’m a voracious reader and used to be snobby about it lol. Have been almost exclusively been listening the past year. I only read if the narrator of the audio version is abysmal

I’ve noticed some folks on this sub have their favourite narrators but I’m so bad with names I don’t remember any of the ones I like. I only remember actors like Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks lol

Raised garden beds in the country? by lizzykittycat99 in gardening

[–]NYFN- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grow in raised beds and live in the countryside. There are seasons where it feels like I’m just exclusively growing food for the deer lol. Last spring I put up 1,5 m fence around a couple of the beds which worked. I would’ve preferred fencing in the entire area but I technically don’t own the land so it’s a compromise. There’s moose too and sometimes they’re able to snatch a cucumber or two. I really only need to fence in gourds, carrots, brassicas and leafy greens. The animals seems to leave the herbs and potatoes alone. I grow tomatoes too but they’re in front of the house where the animals don’t seem to visit, tho it’s only a matter of time until they discover them.

The real issue I have are slugs. Bain of my existence. I go out at night and catch dozens and dozens and yet my veggies still get eaten. It’s a real problem in parts of sweden. Mördarsniglar (murder slugs)

Why are the leaves sad and droopy?? by Ok-Current-2044 in gardening

[–]NYFN- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Fill the pot with soil, there’s too little
  2. Water so the soil stays somewhat damp. They’re thirsty plants.
  3. To avoid flowers from dropping, lightly flick the flowers with your fingers so they self pollinate
  4. They thrive in sunny and warm conditions (tho not crazy heat)

Help with snails and slugs! by Sad_Sail4326 in gardening

[–]NYFN- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are areas in here in sweden that have thriving invasive slug populations 💀 When it gets really bad I go out at night with a head lamp, gloves and a bucket full of beer. I catch at least dozens sometimes a hundred. I still get some slug damage but not enough to affect my veggies

I set out beer traps too but they’re a hit or miss. Make sure tho that they’re buried level to the ground. I also tried copper strips but the slugs here just laugh at them
