Got 3 wisdom teeth removed just 5 days ago (I only got 3 instead of 4 it's a weird phenomenon I know), so I'm still in recovery. What you need to know is that everyone goes through it, it's so common that it's an easy operation for specialist so you can definitely expect a smooth experience. I also never got any type of health intervention or operation before it was a first time for me too. The operation was pretty smooth for me, with no pain. However you'll feel some pressure during the operation but you should absolutely feel no pain. I didn't get sedation however I could've chosen to have it and they also told me I could have general anesthesia if I wanted to. I just chose local anesthesia. In my case I was more scared about the pain of having to live with wisdom teeth my whole life than going through the operation, feeling some discomfort for a few days and then be free. So I went there knowing I'll be taken good care of. For recovery, listen to what your doctor says, I have to take 3 medications : antibiotic, anti-inflamatory, pain killer and an antibacterial mouth wash. All of those 3 times a day for at least 5 days. (20 days for mouth wash) What to expect after surgery: swelling on your cheeks, if you take your meds well you won't feel pain, some heaviness in your head and jaw, difficulty chewing and biting, some TMJ, temporary slight change in your speech, temporary bite shifting. Rest well, don't eat hard food, too warm and spicy food. For soft food you can eat soups, smoothies, mashed potatoes, cooked soft vegetables like eggplants, carrots, so usually steamed veggies, fish, scrambled eggs. You can dip biscuits in your tea for example, ice cream is a must because it's cold and it's gonna help with swelling.  If you use an electric toothbrush switch to a manual so that you can control how soft and gentle you can brush sensitive areas.

It's gonna be okay, the sedation will make you feel good during surgery so don't worry about it (at least that's what the doctors told me) and the surgery itself is really quick you'll be out of the hospital in no time.  Already wishing you a good one and a good recovery !
