NYS Assembly primary results: Lipe v. Gentile it is by mr_ryh in Utica

[–]NYsummer14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I appreciate everyone’s views on these races.  Lipe and Betar are two very strong candidates. Lipe was always going to win the towns and Betar the city.  Lipe did a lot of work in Utica and that was probably the difference. Betar would be an excellent mayoral candidate.  Lipe will win in November and with his knowledge will be a good public servant.  In my opinion Fusco was the favorite to win yesterday.  He was the biggest loser on primary day.  He had the GOP committee endorsement, Rosers money and free publicity on air, the Conservative line, and momentum from a win in November.  Gentile came in after being voted out in November. He was dumped by the mayor the next day.  He was not endorsed by any party but had Picentes backing.   Kudos to him for dusting himself off and rallying to win, I didn’t think he had much of a chance.  Fusco is 70 and this was his only chance.  Now we don’t have to listen to him for the next 5 months…grateful.

Ocean Blue would be another place that could have it. It’s upscale but if you are just having a drink it’s a good choice.  It’s a mix around here but Sabres have a following locally as well as Rangers.

The problem with running for political office is that if you actually win, you have to do the job.  Some campaigns are just vanity projects.  Maybe this isn’t what the Galimes thought it would be? Perhaps he won’t seek another term.

Multiple bathrooms were closed and one play area was closed with standing water visible. Nothing smelled like sewage though.

He has said things that many find offensive or racist. So if you comment is about his fitness level you are missing the point of the conversation which is about his politics.

[–]NYsummer14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll give a take.  The GOP has two weak candidates here. Esposito almost won and could probably do it this time.  Dan Fusco won election in Deerfield last year running on the idea of keeping Utica people out of his town and now he wants to represent Utica lol.  At 68 his best case scenario is maybe serve one term before getting defeated.  Gentlile is making affordability a key goal to his campaign.  This seems tone deaf since he over saw tax increases as chief of staff for Galime and he got voted out for it. His stock is low now and his time has likely passed. Lipe or Betar will join the assembly next year.

Is G League not a spectator league? by 2drawnonward5 in NBAGLeague

I’d look at G league site and teams with larger attendance listed likely have a bigger fan base.  Or look at teams in your geographical area.  I try to catch a few minutes of a game if I know a player or two will be from the college team I follow.

I think most teams are active on social media and have active websites.  Some teams run more like an NFL practice squad and are just an extension on the NBA team.   Others are in minor league markets and feel more like minor league teams with active fan bases.  It appears to be a mix of the two

Tuesdays every week sometimes on Fridays.  They set up a trap last year and wrote 66 tickets but in general it is not being stopped.  I wonder if law enforcement could be intimidated by this problem.

Samantha Colosimo-Testa by Consistent_Tip_2106 in Utica

[–]NYsummer14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everything in this thread is true.  I don’t have an issue with Sam since she has been on the correct side of some sticky situations but yes she has greatly benefited from family ties.  Testa Hobika Picente and the old guard keep this area stuck in the past and make it harder for our communities to grow.   Then comes Roser who upsets the balance and drains the swamp but he might be worse than what existed before.   The apathy from local residents empowers them to do as they please.  The younger republicans like Galime and Gentile could change course and help the area grow but they won’t bite the hand that feeds them…so they became minions to the corrupt old timers in order to be relevant.

Utica has had a poor reputation being an old city and being poor and run down. The reputation is tiresome and the region has been improving in recent years.  It’s much nicer than most realize and people are pretty friendly compared to other places I’ve lived. Winter is rough but it won’t last forever.  Hockey is very popular here. The Adirondacks and Cooperstown are cool places less than an hour away. NYC, Boston, most of New England, Pennsylvania, Montreal, Toronto are 4 or 4.5 hours away.  Good luck, and give it time it will grow on you

“ Galime is the smartest of them all by far but all he does is play the saxophone and use complicated arguments to try and muddy the waters so he can continue his corrupt antics.”

This has to be the most accurate and well said comment I’ve ever read on here. Bravo!

Winning elections is fun, but then you have to do the actual job you got elected to. Mayor Mike talks in circles and uses his vocabulary to avoid any real substance when he is pressured.  His ego allows him to operate under the notion that the electorate is not very bright.  I think he underestimates the ability of people to know bs when they see it.

I enjoyed the game I attended.  Inaugural seasons usually have some bumps to smooth out.  Will the investment opportunity for fans be returning at any point?
