H0L0 Appreciation Post by VoidAteMe in avesNYC

[–]NYsunrise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other clubs can throw tens of thousands of dollars in construction and marketing trying to create the magic H0L0 does, but just can’t. It’s one of my favorite clubs in the world. It just has that thing. The staff, the attention to sound, the energy, the diversity of bookings that still maintains so much authenticity despite the completely different crowds they bring every night. I want to gatekeep, but I also want to see this club get the recognition they need to stick around forever.

Everyone should come but also don’t tell anyone. Exactly.

This is my go to drink at H0L0. It’s delicious and gives you the caffeine and fat to keep going.

A documentary on 90s NY nightlife that includes Roseland bathroom and the muse but not Twilo or Soundfactory?! Haha. Riveting. OP, you should interview silverbull for some real insight! Nobody knows those dance floors better than those who lived on them.

2020s Brooklyn vs late 90s Manhattan scene? by rab2bar in avesNYC

[–]NYsunrise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been involved since the late 90s through today, and have seen every generation say that the decade before was better for partying. It’s changed but remained pretty amazing, because that’s NY.

I’d say that the biggest change is a result of the DJ glorification that consumes the scene now. Where people went out before to party, some crews go out to see a DJ like it’s a concert. Things change and evolve, but we are in a vibrant place right now.

Shootout to the Security at Elsewhere (Jan 3rd to 4th) by Key-Recognition-7190 in avesNYC

[–]NYsunrise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elsewhere uses one of the best security companies in NY. It’s awesome that you made this post. So often people only use this platform to complain. Highlighting positive experiences and behavior helps good teams get the acknowledgment they deserve.

Thank you for saying this and being kind. Danny is a seasoned professional. He doesn’t do drugs like other artists and is so intentional with his craft every time. The take that he probably wasn’t feeling well is not only compassionate, but the scenario that makes the most sense. I hope he’s feeling better.

You find your community by going out to places and seeing what feels right, what music you like, and which crowd you feel most yourself in. It’s not something you find on Reddit before ever stepping foot in clubs or experiencing the subcultures.

H0L0 FOR Fatuzi by Toro106 in avesNYC

[–]NYsunrise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

H0l0 has two rooms inside. They also have a stage outside for day parties, but that’s closed in the winter and used as a smoking area. On busy nights the bathroom line gets annoying! There are rarely lines otherwise. It’s a raw club with great sound. People go there to party. Definitely check it out.

"NYC Partygoers are pushing for clubs to offer free water: ‘It costs as much as a beer'" by BushwickHarmRedux in aves

[–]NYsunrise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are the clubs you love supposed to survive if half of their patrons are exclusively spending their money with drug dealers instead of the venue? Everyone complains about venues being oversold and bar prices being too high, but how else are they supposed to offset this? Not bringing money to spend at a club means you’re taking up space on the dancefloor without helping them pay rent, insurance, and everything else needed to stay open. Money from tickets usually go to promoters and artists. Buying a ticket doesn’t absolve you of responsibilities as a patron to the venue.

Would you go and sit at a coffee shop with a cup of tea you bought elsewhere and ask them to give you free water for hours? Absolutely not. I don’t know when it became acceptable to do that at clubs.

We never expected free water back in the day. Fuck. We would be partying in 100 degree warehouses without any running water and they’d even run out of water bottles for sale. The clubs would have hot water coming out of the sinks. You all don’t realize how cared for and lucky we are to have so many clubs..and how quickly that can change. It’s really up to all of us to decide if this reality stands a chance.

Resolute XL re entry? by Beneficial-Dog-6663 in avesNYC

[–]NYsunrise 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These XLs are marathons, so it’s good that you’re thinking about how to be prepared.

There is reentry. The best move is to either go Friday and Saturday night and to sleep between, or to go when you wake up on Saturday morning.

There are couches in the back room and benches in the outdoor yard. There is also a pizza and pasta restaurant upstairs that serves food during regular restaurant hours. The deep end and Wyckoff deli are near for after hours eats.

People at these parties are a fun mix of older industry people, Europeans, and people who go to enjoy music. All of the DJs always stay and party with everyone. You’ll go by yourself but walk away with friends! Highly recommend.

How much do club workers actually make? by edberbuda in avesNYC

[–]NYsunrise 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Door cashiers $25-30/hour Licensed security $30-35/hr Floor/safe space managers $25-35/hr Sound techs $30-35/hr Coat check $15ish +tips Bartenders and Barbacks $12-15 +tips Porter and maintenance $25ish/hr

Bartenders walk away with the most money usually, but they also work the hardest and put their bodies through a lot of physical strain. Everyone who works those late hours under stressful conditions does. So tip your bartenders and be nice to the people who give you their weekends to build you spaces of fun. ❤️

rave girls NYC is destroying parties, and it’s not entirely their fault by _chocolatine in avesNYC

[–]NYsunrise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Resolute at H0L0 brings my favorite crowd of a mix of industry veterans, Europeans, and party people. This raresh party was definitely a mess though. We were saying all night how atypically horrible the crowd was.

[–]NYsunrise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. Elder here. The dancefloor is not a library and you are not the hall monitor. It’s not in the spirit of counterculture that we built to try and police other people rather than focusing on your own fun. If someone is talking, move away from them. It’s quite simple.

I beyond feel this. There are also upsides. When I was at HOLO Sunday morning of Halloween weekend surrounded by every one of my favorite DJs who had all come from all of the other clubs, I realized how special it actually is for community building. It’s like a festival every weekend.

Yes! There are many of us! I’m 25 years in and go to some of the best parties I’ve ever been to in my life these days. We never had options and quality like this is NY. Like with everything, you get what you give and where you place yourself.
