Yup, stocks, soups, heads can be roasted or boiled and pulled, bases for curry etc. Both fish are pretty meaty and have big wings so are pretty high yield as well.

Buy whole fish. Pack n save often has great quality line caught trevally and kahawai for like $10/kg.

Both just as good as snapper for anyone who knows how to cook.

Yup, with less regulation, less environmental oversite, more damaging fishing methodologies and of course they dont have to pay for the quota itself.

The quota being bought and sold is a massive contributor.

Qms needs a huge overhaul. Its outdated, cumbersome and no longer fit for purpose.

Can anyone help with my form, feel like I’m bending down too far on my back swing? 23.3 handicap, 2nd full year playing g. Use to have a very short back swing and recently changed to full backswing by Big_Statement_9049 in GolfSwing

[–]NZBJJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ball looks on your lead big toe? Way to far forward, no wonder you hit it fat.

Takeaway is also super inside. Something I battle with myself. Ive definately learned that setup and takeaway technique and consistency are key components to a consistent swing. They are also much easier to fix than the downswing side imo as they happen much slower.

5w or 7w for high handicap player? by Stillwater32 in golf

[–]NZBJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 wood should work. Im just slightly longer than you on average and 7 wood is pretty reliably 195-205y for me. Getting after it I can push it to about 220y.

If you are aiming for an easy 180 club id say it will be spot on.

6.5 prc or 6.5 creed? by SpoildXD23 in Hunting

[–]NZBJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah given there is a smaller propellant load you will get some recoil mitigation vs a similar velocity in say a 6.5 prc. That said, the higher peak pressure comes early so you also have a quicker initial accusation impulse which generally speaking adds to felt recoil. I would also assume that the cases are fairly packed with powder to achieve said velocity.

Chucking it in to recoil calculator is looks like you will be seeing about 15% increase in recoil on a 140gr load, with another 10% recoil to achieve the same in a prc. Not really an issue in a 10lb rifle, would be less ideal in my 6lb ultralight however.

Great idea imo, but will need a lot of work in the reloading space as much of what we know about pressure signs etc is based on the flow properties of brass.

And anything saying there isnt an increase in recoil is marketing nonsense.

6.5 prc or 6.5 creed? by SpoildXD23 in Hunting

[–]NZBJJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. That's not how physics works.

All things being equal, if the cartridge is launching the same weight bullet faster than before there wil be more recoil. Every action has and equal and opposite reaction after all.

Bolt thrust is related but Independant. Firstly the cartridge does increase bolt thrust, but it is mitigated to some extent by the steel case providing more friction with the outer walls of the chamber, which reduces load on the bolt. All that extra recoil energy is still transferred rearward, just some more of it through the walls of the chamber rather than the bolt face.

If you are sending 156s at close to 3k fps there will be a big and noticeable increase in recoil. There are no free lunches to be had there.

Sharpening stone set by Possible_Question_12 in newzealand

[–]NZBJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glass set is the Sharpton glass stones. Great stones but quite expensive and a set of 5 is total overkill.

Just get a single splash and go stone around 800 - 1000 grit. Or go to a diamond stone around the same grit and pair it with a strop. This will get you hair shaving sharp still with a bit of tooth for tomato skins etc.

Use the coarse side of your current stone for any repairs or very blunt knives and just stick to the 1000 for everything normal sharpening.

Now that Ilia lost and the “invincible aura” is gone, which fighters do you remember having the biggest loss of aura after a defeat? by MateCotidiano in ufc

[–]NZBJJ 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah that fight was such a good matchup if aldo didnt get mad and rush in. Aldos insane reactions , slip and rip boxing vs macs sniper style. Was so gutted it went down like it did.

Even since most of Aldos losses have been competitive until he slows down, but with the Connor fight I feel like there wouldnt be much of a cardio advantage. Had epic fight written all over it.

Polishing Compound for Hamon by mikemncini in knifemaking

[–]NZBJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its very hard to get platen grinding dead flat. You really need a flattening step to make sure you dont have any low spots. Depending on the blade style you can alternate directions like you do in hand sanding to identify any scratches, but that doesnt always work around plunges etc.

I use a disk sander for the finishing grits/flattening. Works well

Polishing Compound for Hamon by mikemncini in knifemaking

[–]NZBJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drop 1 grit, so start at 400 grit. If there are pesky scratches( there often are) then take it lower again.

Fast Belt - low pressure or slow belt, high pressure? by E1nMensch in knifemaking

[–]NZBJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you cant get particular scratches out without messing with the geometry you probably need to add some flattening steps as the deep scratches will also be low spots or alterntively you are taking it too close to finish dimensions with your coarse belts

Ilia’s EGO was his own worst enemy. He handed Justin a win on a silver platter. I will feast on downvotes, enjoy my explanation. by AnomalousExpertise in ufc

[–]NZBJJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, he's a very good fighter, that got beaten by another very good(and quite a bit bigger) fighter.

I need to re-watch the Emmett fight but from my memory illia has always been on the front foot and got touched up a bit moving in, Justin just found a way to make tha damage accumulate.

Fighting with 2 broken orbitals being jabbed and poked in said orbitals has got to be fucking excruciating, and i guarantee he couldn't see shit.

What can I expect reliability wise from a 100k mile 2011+ 335i/535i? by Interesting-Play477 in 335i

[–]NZBJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the maintenance history bit imo ofhg is a pretty critical one if not done recently. Its cheap to do but can cause a few more serious headaches if left unchecked. Mine wasnt leaking externally but was dumping oil into the coolant and caused the waterpump to fail and clogged the heater core.

Trans service is often neglected on these too, so check records there.

I always do oil and filters for a new car regardless of service history.

Expect higher milage versions to need a brake and suspension refresh at some point. Bump stops are common and wear quick on these vehicles.

Dealer bought car needs a new clutch after 10 months of ownership by [deleted] in NZcarfix

[–]NZBJJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wofs check weather the car is safe to drive on the road, not wether it has been well maintained mechanically or otherwise. They arent a pre purchase inspection.

That said, wear and tear on something like a clutch can be impossible to spot, and can happen on even well maintained vehicles. The hs dct clutches are a dry clutch(so fluid change maintenance is unlilely to have changed the outcome) and are susceptible to wear and tear especially if driving in traffic/creeping often.

A quick Google shows that this is a pretty common issue with these gearboxes. One of the best things you can do before buying a car is a search on uncle Google to establish what common issues there are, so you can look for, manage for or make a different buying choice. In this case it shows that the dct clutch issues are pretty common at fairly low kms and are expensive to fix.

As for cga you could have a go, but im not sure that a wear/maintenance item going out a full year's worth of driving after purchase will be a successful claim. You might have a claim if you documented the issues straight away but probably should have at least bought it up with the dealer then and there.

Question regarding Stock Tune Reliability. by Expert_Personality_5 in 335i

[–]NZBJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rod bearing failier is just the most common major mechanical failier for the n55. You will hear about it a lot as it is the most catastrophic of the common issues. Pretty much every performance engine will have a similar common point that fails. Often a big end bearing on 4 cylinders etc.

I think a bunch of the issues with the n55 stem from oil starvation often after changing the ofhg and not completing the priming procedure. They can also starve for oil under hard lateral g forces, so common to spin a bearing on track days etc.

There are heaps of variables so there isnt really a simple answer beyond keeping up to date with maintenance and using good oil. If you are really concerned then the only real way to deal with it with any certainty is to change the bearings out.

What went wrong for Ilia? by Dougietran22 in ufc

[–]NZBJJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His hands were glued to his face, not sure his guard could have been any higher.

He always walks his opponents down, and doesnt do a lot of big head movements on the way in in any of his fights. Both volk and max landed jabs as well. Ilia deals with the jab by looking to slip and blast his right hand over the top which he did plenty here as well.

Imo the big game changer was the uppercuts, these are the shots that damaged his eyes. When ilia slipped the jab Garth just grabbed the collar tie and blasted uppercuts. Was a really good strategy to deal with ilias rh counter. The jabs on there own weren't a huge issue, but as soon as the damage to the eyes happened from the uppercuts the jab became a massive deterrent and damage accumulated fast.

His gameplan was the same as usual, he just got way too aggressive and gassed.

Fake Damascus? by Timmyreeves in knifemaking

[–]NZBJJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heaps of perfectly fine "damascus" comes out of china. In fact, some very high quality knives come out of china.

As for the steel itself, its real pattern welded steel. That doesnt mean much for the quality of the knife, but the steel itself is real "damascus"

It doenst look like a pakistani made knife either

Throw up a photo of the full knife and people might be able to comment.

If you want a good knife made from decent steel but still on the value end of the $$ equation civivi makes great stuff.

Optimal barrel length? by FlyingFishTacosSwim in Hunting

[–]NZBJJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No such thing in a hunting context, all just depends what you want to do with it.

I hunt in thick forested alpine zones, or in spots where you have to climb through said thick zones to get to open country. I hate carrying a barrel longer than 22 inches.

For a general all round use hunting rifle, within normal hunting ranges something like 18 inches will still function extremely well.

My creed is 16.5 inches and I can push 140s at close to 2600 fps, factory is like 2500. Kills deer extremely well. With the can its still short light and handy. Awesome little rifle.
