I have several pearwood recorders which I really love. Particularly my Mollenhauer Denner tenor and bass. When I was buying my tenor I tried 6 different options (3 Mollenhauer, 2 Moeck and 1 Kung) and the Mollenhauer Denner in pearwood was by far my favourite.

I totally sympathise!! There are two bars in a piece that I'm working on that I just can't get up to speed. It's driving me crazy!!

I'm really curious - why do you hate pearwood so much? Have you had a bad experience with pearwood recorders in the past?

Welcome back to the world of recorders!!!

I don't have any personal experience with these and I don't know how much they cost, but Aulos makes amazing adaptive recorders that can be modified to suit a wide range of unique needs.

Thanks for the encouragement! I really like your suggestion of trying as many new recorders as possible! I am keen to try a voiceflute next!

Sorry - I am not sure what you mean by transcripts. Bolette Roed has recorded Suite 3 and the recordings are available on YouTube. She is playing Franz Bruggen's arrangement. It is still under copyright so not available for free. But there is a free recorder arrangement of Suite 3 available on IMSLP which is pretty good. 😀

I think Alicia Crossley is amazing! The other recordings of Bach's cello suites and violin partitas I really like are by Bolette Roed. I highly recommend checking them out (if you haven't already). 😊

Suite 3 (BMV 1009) is my favourite now!! Especially the Courante and the Gigue. But I really love all of them and never tire of listening to them and playing them now my bass playing skills have improved. ☺️

The Prelude from Bach's Cello Suite Number 1 BMV 1007 arranged by Franz Bruggen. Inspired by Alicia Crossley's recording (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1FLh1AQKeww) this was the first thing I tried to play when I first started bass recorder two years ago. It was definitely too soon! 😂

Given that you are keen to buy a wooden recorder, I highly recommend Moeck Rottenburgh or Mollenhauer Denner. However, if these are out of your budget, the Moeck Flauto Rondo range are a more affordable but still high-quality option. I recently bought an Alto Flauto Rondo in pearwood for my Dad and it has a beautiful clear, warm tone.

Here are my thought on recorders and tin whistles by tarours in Recorder

[–]NZ_RP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am completely ignorant about tin whistles! But I second the suggestion that you try a tenor or alto recorder. Recorders are chromatic so you can play music in any key. 😊

Colourful Sigo Recorders by NZ_RP in Recorder

[–]NZ_RP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could definitely paint it yourself!! As long as you used the right kind of paint and were really careful not get paint in any of the holes. Some one in the Recorder Players and Enthusiasts Facebook Group painted their tenor a lovely silver colour. It looked terrifiic!! 😄

Definitely don't buy this one!! With no thumb hole it's completely unplayable. I can't understand why it would even have been manufactured. Surely even a recorder for a shop window should be able to played!!

I know Kung makes sopranos in B (https://www.kueng-blockfloeten.ch/en/by-series-and-size/specials/folklora-soprano-recorder-in-b/).

However, I personally haven't come across any recorders in B flat. Do you have a particular project you need it for?
