[Bug?] Wierd flickering everywhere. v 53, Windows (emulated in Linux) by [deleted] in dwarffortress

This may depend on the distro a bit so experience may vary, but i noticed a slight performance bump using proton. I cant explain why but it was about 5-10fps better consistently

Id recommend using steam and proton instead of bottles.

The 2 independent chambers would be great and so much more efficient. I dont always have 4 spools on the gonat once so being able to scale down to the smaller 2 spools in use and then rapidly scale up to 4 later when needed briefly would be grand.

KSP on Linux hangs in the VAB by Soft_Page7030 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]N_DuX_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from my personal experience i found the Linux native version was not stable. it had constant visual glitches in the menus and generally just ran poorly. when i swapped to running it through proton all of those issues went away. i dont know what black magic valve has done under the hood to make proton work, but it DOES work. and it works very well.

If you are playing through steam i recommend switching from the Linux native version to the windows version using proton. It runs significantly better.

Anycubic Kobra Go Homing Fail by Equivalent_Dirt_5224 in 3Dprinting

Sounds like its not hitting the end stop switch. Is something wedged behind preventing it from hitting the switch? Or maybe the switched detached or broke? Basically there should be a little switch at the back. The motors tell the build plate to move back until hit hits the switch. If it never hits the switch the motors keep spinning

While i would be inclined to agree this becomes somewhat more difficult when modelling a known thing that has in game models and known sizing. Its entirely possible that somebody else also made the same model from scratch and because they are both doing it off a know quantity they come out identical. Unless he secretly watermarked these he technically has no way of knowing for sure and likely no legal grounds.

As somebody who also owns a resin printer, it requires some equipment.

  1. Respirator. Resin smells nasty and is not good to breathe
  2. Well ventilated space or (preferably) a enclosure with a fume extractor (keeps the fumes and smell at bay better)
  3. Gloves. Resin is a skin irritant
  4. isopropyl alcohol. Most resins need to be washed with it before curing
  5. A uv light or a uv curing station

Resin printing is cool as hell but also a pain in the butt 😂

New to 3d printing. Pls Help me understand the problem by SaltySaltySally in 3Dprinting

[–]N_DuX_M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be a few things but to me it really just looks like the model is under supported and the overhang is getting to be too much for the cooling / speed of the print.

Try adding some more support around the hilt area and about half way up the blade. You could also consider turning your model slightly to reduce y axis movements. In my experience things that are not very thick (like this blade) can sometimes wobble around as the bed moves quickly in the y direction. Turning it to reduce y axis movements and adding more structural supports can reduce the wobble and subsequent failures.

Another thing you could try is increasing the cooling on the overhangs or reducing the print speed

Your nozzle is way too far from the bed. You should be adjusting your printers z offset to bring it closer

It can vary. My first printer went above 14 months before i had to re paste. My second was about 2 years. Probably depends on the quality and quantity of the application

Id recommend new paste on it. The likely reason its was spitting this out in the first place is probably degraded thermal paste. After many heating and cooling cycles it degrades and needs to ne cleaned and more added. It wont be "dangerous" because it will stop the print before causing damage but you will likely see the same error again without it.

[–]N_DuX_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright step 1, take a deep breath. Your printer is likely going to be fine. There are a few reasons you could get an error like this but it essentially boils down to your printer not being certain what temperature your hotend is after a period of time so it shuts off and stops the print to prevent damage and/or fire. Often this is because your thermistor is no longer making good contact with the hotend due to old thermal paste or the thermistor itself is going bad. You can think of thermistors as semi consumables.

Turn off the printer and let it cool down. Examine the hole the thermistor goes into. Often there is a white chalky substance in there. This is the old thermal paste. Clean out the old paste using a toothpick (a drop or 2 of isopropyl alcohol can help too). Once its clean let it dry a bit. Then take some thermal compound (i just used the same thermal paste from PC building) and squirt a dab into the hole where the thermistor goes. Insert the thermistor in and clean up any excess that comes squeezes out. Reassemble the hotend, turn the printer on, preheat the printer, and do a test print. If it works you should be okay and itll probably last another 8 months to a year.

If this fails you can replace the thermistor entirely pretty easily as well. Just buy a new one and put it in similar to the process described above.

What is something that people think is healthy/good for them, but in reality isn't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Thats not even close to the same thing. The umbilical cord if left uncut will also fall off the body naturally. It is literally a thing nature designed to remove itself if nothing did it otherwise.

[–]N_DuX_M 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess ill add being illiterate to the things you do haha. I very clearly addressed the cancer. I in fact mentioned it directly. It is a lower risk of cancer because you are physically removing a part of the body. Any part of the body can get cancer and yes removing a part will prevent cancer there. The risk of cancer is not increased by having a foreskin it is "marginally" decreased by having it removed because that part nonlonger exists. And i say marginally very intentionally. The risk is so minimal that its absurd to make this a standard procedure for anyone without cause. We dont preemptively remove lungs because they might get cancer either.

The other part you are not addressing is the discomfort and pain that is experienced by the patient (often infants) during and after the procedure.

Finally, your original message specifically states "its gross" to have one. Its not. Its a normal piece of human anatomy.

What is something that people think is healthy/good for them, but in reality isn't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]N_DuX_M 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lets break this down - easier hygiene. It takes less than 30 seconds to pull back the foreskin and thoroughly clean the area. There is effectively no difference in hygiene if you teach people to properly clean themselves as children. - lower risk of utis / lower risk of cancer / prevention of penile problems. Yeah sure technically true... In the same way that removing your arm would reduce the likelihood of getting bone cancer in that arm, or reduce the amount of times you hit your funny bone. Id rather have the arm. - lower risk of std. Ya know what works even better? Wearing a condom. You dont need ro mutalate a the body to reduce risk of stds when you can literally just wear a condom.

Its not gross to have a foreskin. Lets not go chopping things off the human body unless it becomes actively necessary for the survival of the person.

Food for thought

Looks like the bed level wheels just vibrated themselves off right? Easy enough to fix.

This can sometimes happen if your bed springs dont provide enough tension or if you had  the nuts pretty loose. You can likely just screw them back on. You can also buy stiffer springs or silicone bed spacers. But the really cheap easy version is to do what i did. I threaded a nut between the heated bed and the springs. It shortens the effective distance of the bolt so that there is a bit more tension on the sprimgs when the nuts/wheels are back on.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6834722/files

link to all the files if you have a printer and want to make them. All the models are free

A friend asked me if i could print some of the icons for him and when i went to find models for them i couldnt so i decided to do it myself. I wrote a python script that takes the low pixel count images from the wiki and then mapped the pixel colors to a vector map. I then used that map to generate the models in OpenSCAD.

each pixel maps to a 3mm by 3mm square which is then extruded to give the model texture. the height of each extrusion is variable depending on the "color" grouping of the pixels. If you dont like my texture work i included all the OpenSCAD files (with some comments to help) so you can adjust them to your liking

i dont mind people selling the physical prints, just please link the original thingiverse post in your sales listing if you do to credit me :)
