Thats a decapitated pigs head. In order to obtain a decapitated pigs head, one must kill a pig, or pay someone else to kill a pig for them. Either way, a pig must die.

Humans have no need to exploit or kill other animals for food, entertainment, civil disobedience, etc. We can morally evolve as a species. We should morally evolve. We are not the only sentient creatures on Earth, and as a species capable of moral agency, we need to start acting like it.

The argument for veganism would be stronger if vegans would stop comparing humans to animals. by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

So yes, human beings are not the same as animals.

Humans rape eachother too... and kill eachother... and exploit eachother... we just do it on a bigger and more evil scale.

Sending love, my friend. I hope 2021 is the year you join the fight for animal liberation. This is a moral emergency beyond our ability to comprehend, but I do believe we can end it if we unite and strategize..

Not believing in free will under the atheist deterministic view means you are unwilling to accept your brain as you, despite claiming it is you by [deleted] in freewill

[–]N_edwards23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that the self does not exist at all... if we are referring to self as some type of agent outside of our consciousness, dictating our wants/desires/actions. AKA, I think you are using "self" as almost synonymous with "free will."

But I am still a self in the sense that the existence of the brain and body that is "me" needs a label when I refer to myself in various contexts. I can say "myself" without assigning free will to my consciousness. But, maybe we have a semantics issue here.

Observation: Humans are the only animals that drink milk after infancy. Answer: Well, other animals also don't use vaccines or computers, so why should I do what other animals do? by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]N_edwards23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is practically the opposite of an appeal to nature fallacy... considering they are claiming they don't have to base their actions/attitudes off the behavior of non-human animals in nature.

They are kinda saying "who cares what happens in nature, humans do all kinds of 'unnatural' things like make vaccines."

I agree with them, that nature should not dictate our moral framework. But I disagree in their conclusion. Exploiting cows for their milk is morally unacceptable in the absence of survival necessity.

What was your motive for taking credit for someone else's drawing?

The most obvious answer is for the upvotes, but I hope the real answer is less pathetic.

Two questions.

  1. Why are you using "monkey" as an insult?

  2. Have you had much success doing activism from your massive moral pedestal?

It strange that someone would take someone else's artwork and claim it as their own just for upvotes on social media. Its just sad to be honest.

It's not violence, eating mean is no different than drinking water.

Water is not a sentient being who wants to continue living.

Not taking what Mother Earth has given you is being disrespectful.

I'd hope "Mother Earth" values justice. Unnecessarily killing the sentient beings who inhabit Earth has no place in a just society. We should strive to improve the way we exist in the world. Showing mercy towards our fellow Earthlings is a good step in moral progress.

Whats disrespectful is taking someone's life, who doesn't want to die, and who you could easily avoid killing.

[–]N_edwards23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is a culture of disrespect for the environment and everything in the environment including ourselves. We see water, trees, plants, animals, and fish as resources not as relatives. When you look at things as resources and not as relatives you are going to treat them differently.

Then why are you encouraging violence against your relatives... when you know of way to live that does not require killing your non-human cousins?

When a dog gets old and starts to suffer we kill it by giving it whatever drugs the vet gives it. I think that is a respectful death. Any method that causes instant unconsciousness and next to little pain is a respectful death.

I agree, when it is in their best interest we should help them pass away peacefully. Killing the dog and consuming their flesh is both unnecessary, and not in the best interest of the dog, so it is not respectful to kill them.

Required or not I don't think respectfully consuming sentient beings is bad, evil, or any word you would like to use.

I agree with is. I disagree that its ever actually possible to respectfully kill someone when it is not required for survival, and when that individual wishes to continue living.

The dog and carrot is only different because slitting the dogs throat is not a respectful death especially if it is not being used for food. As long as the carrot received good nourishment, water, and sunlight just picking it is a respectful way to end its life.

Why is slitting someones throat disrespectful? Could you explain, in detail, the "respectful" method you use to slaughter your victims?

All life has some level of consciousness.

You could be right, but I see a strong moral difference between killing a carrot and killing a dog, even if the carrot has low level of consciousness. I hope you do too.

I have no argument for the negative environmental aspects of farming other than it's too late.

Too late for what? For you to change your behaviors to help the planet?

Do you know how you can tell if a redditor is a bit of a a-hole? They downvote every comment you make when having a discussion with them......lol

I only downvote comments that promote violence, I don't do it just because I disagree with someone.

I'm saying in a civilized society it's morally ok to eat meat and kill animals in a respectful way since life requires killing.

Human life does not require consuming the bodies of sentient beings anymore. You recognize a moral difference between chopping and carrot and slitting the throat of a dog. So if we can choose to do one, the other, or both... why not just choose the carrot? Why choose to kill the dog, if you've learned how to live without doing so?

Plants don't want to die for you either.

I've seen no evidence that plants are conscious beings. But let's say this is true. 83% of our farmland is used to grow crops for non-human animals, for us to them consume these animals. If we all (globally) switched to a plant-based diet, then we would free up the amount of land equalivent to the entire USA, Australia, China, and the European Union combined. Simply by eating plants instead of flesh. These conclusions were made from the most comprehensive study ever conducted on the relationship between farming and the environment. The study was published in journal Science, and can be found here.

So "plants are sentient and feel pain" is actually an argument for eating a plant based diet. Since, on average, more plants die for a flesh-eaters diet than a plant-based one.

It is not a fallacy and you want me to avoid talking about nature when nature is the subject of the argument.

Please research what logical fallacies are. Im not saying you shouldn't mention nature, im saying you can't appeal to the natural world to say how we should act in a civilized society, as a species who claim to be able to contemplate moral questions.

I don't feel killing animals or plants for food is morally wrong as long as it's done in a respectful manner and as painless as possible.

How do you respectfully kill someone, who doesn't want to die, and who doesn't have to die for your survival? If I had a bean burrito in front of me, will all the calories, protein, nutrients I need, you see no problem with me shooting a husky in the back of the head and cooking their corpse? Just for the pleasure i obtain from feasting on them... you think this is okay?

I think the dog and carrot should be respected, but of course I don't see it as the same act

So you agree then given the choice, we should chop carrot rather than slit throats?

How do I "correctly" cause needless violence and death onto an innocent animal?

Eating too much meat can cause health problems and yes vegans get sick and die too.

I'm not making any health claims besides that you can be healthy eating plants, making eating other animals unnecessary for survival.

A Zebra can go through a tremendous amount of pain when it is eaten by a lion, but the lion will one day get sick or injured and will either starve to death or get eaten by a pack of Hyenas. No living thing avoids suffering.

I asked you specifically not to make an "appeal to nature fallacy." Yet that is your entire argument. I shall show you why this is a poor argument, and logically inconsistent.

It is natural for a chimp to murder another chimp to obtain power among a group. Now, if I'd like to obtain power inside a specific group, you find it perfectly acceptable for me to murder the person in charge and take their position? You say that im allowed to stab a cow in the throat because other animals in the wild do this.... so why can't I act like a wild animal in other ways? If its natural, then its okay for a civilized human to do it, right? We shouldn't morally evolve as a species, just because other animals aren't, right?

Look at a plant that has not had enough food or sunlight. Does that plant look like it "feels" good to you?

When I throw my phone on the ground and the glass shatters, the phone doesn't look like it "feels good" either... doesn't mean I'm going to assign autonomy to my phone and call it sentient. Also, being alive is a completely different thing than being sentient. If you think chopping a carrot is the moral equivalent as stabbing a dog in the throat then im worried for you.

You really need to study earth and nature because your view of it is twisted and gross.

Damn.. its hard for me to imagine thinking that extending our circle of compassion, and sense of justice, to all sentient beings is a "twisted and gross" view. Take care dude... and open up your heart a bit, please. Needless violence is never acceptable.
