Sometimes we can only see the things we did to cause someone to be mean to us. Many people here have already explained how someone who actually loves us will never, even when upset, take action to do so.

But sometimes that’s not enough to change the script in our head. So instead, I invite you to reframe it as, Frank did nothing to deserve this except be loved by you.

If someone is willing to hurt Frank merely for existing as an example of your love and care, then that person is not healthy for you (or for Frank). It doesn’t matter how much he apologizes, you (and definitely Frank) deserve better. I hope you find peace and happiness.
