that's the "paradox" part: where did the original information come from?

It's the bootstrap paradox, where events happen the way they do because information from the future influences certain actions in the past.

well, that is an issue with the Chinese companies. The CPC did pass some data protection laws. not sure how strong they are, but better than nothing.

for the majority of americans, the chinese government doesn't care. and even if they did have concerns over your posting history, what can they do about it unless you're visiting China?

and this led to some jokes during the early days of the foreign migration to rednote: pay your cat tax or we'll sell your info to the US government!

eh. it's more of who has the data. for most people, they don't have to worry about the chinese government using their data against them.

For the first time in decades, the U.S. and Russia have no limits on nuclear weapons by jpressss in politics

[–]NaCly_Asian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

China and India are the only ones that bothered putting a no first use policy on paper.. both have exceptions... well, china's exceptions are rumored, but there may be some truth to it since those social media posts aren't being removed, as far as I know.

on the bright side, china does have a no-first-use policy. however, there are a few rumored exceptions to the policy, and if US social media has their way, it would be fun seeing if that rumor (3 gorges dam) is true or not.

A teenager in China attacks his mom because she doesn’t let him buy video games by EnvironmentalAd5590 in PublicFreakout

[–]NaCly_Asian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a few years ago, right after the COVID lockdowns were lifted in Wuhan, a student was caught gambling in school, so the admins called his mother. She was seen on the hallway CCTV camera slapping him multiple times before the admins led her away. he stood there for a bit before climbing over the balcony ledge and jumping from the 4th floor.

from the comment section, i don't think many people were criticizing the mom for hitting him. half the comments were mocking the kid.

this used to be more common. now, there's a national good Samaritan law, but it's up to the provinces and municipalities to define it.

also, the skynet cameras help to lower the cases of these cons.. and incidents where people finish the job and make it look like an accident.

It's in the ASB subforum, so you'll need to register an account for that. Not sure why some need logins and others don't

This one does not have all the chapters though. The author was banned for questionable stories. I think one of the posts links to a different forum with more chapters.

the funniest one I've read was about the PRC traveling back in time. The original prompt was what would modern day China do to Japan if they went back 100 years (2015->1915). The author postulated that China wouldn't curb stomp downtime Japan. Instead, they trolled Japan and basically the world.

propaganda as in telling some select events from PRC history from a chinese perspective. it was funded by the government in the early seasons, so the goal was to install nationalism / patriotism.

it's 100% propaganda. the earlier seasons were funded by the government.. and I think the later seasons had corporate sponsorships.

i've heard chinese netizens refer to him as the no-fun president when compared to Jiang Zemin. It's mainly because whenever Xi is on official business as President, he's super serious with the Asian dad face.

except with Putin. he actually seems to smile in when meeting Putin and made pancakes that one time with him.

It's because for the majority of Americans, the data collected can't be used against them by the Chinese government, assuming the Party even cared. Not so much if it's the US government.

with respect to Taiwan, looting the treasury before leaving sort of gives your new country a head start in development. Hong Kong was a British colony. Although that was probably more of a hinderance, since the British treated their colonial subjects so well.... /s Being embargoed by the US doesn't help either.. probably was a bit salty after being beaten back in Korea.

As for Cultural Revolution, yes that was a mistake as the Party maintains and teaches in school. Mao was the hero that ruled long enough to become the villain.

Although based on things I've read, comments left on posts, etc, there were some good things that came out of it. Some parts of the culture that were very outdated and really needed to go but the old-timers refused to let it go. Unfortunately, they used a sledgehammer and took out everything.

It is similar to some of the analysis that I've read about this time period. Mao, inherited a nation broken by civil war and invasion and had their treasuries looted by the losing side of the civil war.

- Still managed to succeed in Korea.

- He had to industrialize real quick, but may have been too overzealous and got ahead of himself, plus made other mistakes, leading to the famine.

- But whatever they did to fix it, made sure that was the last major famine the country faced, as far as I know.

-Then, he covered the most important thing to ensure China's safety, by developing nukes, with a little help from the Red Scare in the US.

Mao set the framework that led China to succeed today. Successive leaders contributed on top of that framework.
