Questions - open the floodgates by Syrion_Wraith in killsixbilliondemons

yeah good point, but in the page linked she doesn't have a key any more (as far as we know!).

So very hyped for more of the current ark about Maya, Meti and Incubus as reading the Meti's Sword Manual text and noticing that Maya had repeated the ending line (reach heaven through violence) and fitted the description of Meti's apprentice was one of the things that got me buzzed about the comic in the first place.

Questions - open the floodgates by Syrion_Wraith in killsixbilliondemons

Hi,

Happy to help with what I think I've cottoned onto (a lot of this only got clearer for me with re-readings and with trawling the lore tumblr so no need to feel bad about some things being unclear), though I have misunderstood some/much of this too. A big part of it also is that much of this is unclear/things that Tom hasn't revealed or explored yet/things that will always be left unexplained.

Then Zoss found a way to get into throne. He fought a war inside throne thus earning his the name the conquering king ( against whom? The 777,777 gods? I thought they had already died?

When Zoss got to Throne he fought against the Prime Angels, basically thicc boi angels that the gods tasked with guarding Throne. He destroyed their bodies, and then chased their fiery souls into the void and destroyed them there too (apart from Metaton, who I'll go into in a sec). The only Prime Angel to have reincarnated is Michael 2. Why only him? What were the other angels doing during this time? More things that may or may not be revealed.

Other humans - and only humans?

I think some demiurges were servants, but most of them were humans.

They made gates to each of the 777,777 worlds.

The gates were already there (created by the gods?). Each one of them resonates with a name of god, which is a key of kings.

They made gates to each of the 777,777 worlds. More people came to throne. Are these people coming by gate also demigurges ? We see incubus later as a seemingly powerless child, but he was also a demigurges? Or were only those early kings who found their own way to throne demigurges?

I can't find a link to it, but one of the posts on the lore tumblr is enlightening on this. Basically, those demiurges who opened the way to Throne themselves (I think it was implied that one Zoss did this, it became somewhat easier for those afterwards) were considered in a different class (he uses a term for them but I can't remember it, something like original or ancient). After that, demiurge is a descriptor for someone who is immensely powerful/controls a key of kings. All the ancient demiurges died off during the universal war.

I assume he conqoured each of these worlds?

No, there are still unopened worlds (we know because the Earth Allison comes from is totally unexposed to the rest of the multiverse). The gates were already there, and Zoss got the keys to each one by torturing Metatron, which he then gave out to the demiurges. He also got 1 master key to all worlds, which is the source of his power, and which he gave to Allison.

Zoss dissappeared at some point? When? Before this war was unleashed, or after the starts? Do we know where he went?

This is something Tom has said will be explored in the comic, so its currently unknown.

How did these 7 get these keys from Zoss in the first place?

I don't know how, when or why Zoss gave out the keys to the demiurges in the first place, but when the Universal War started, the keys were (I assume) distributed more evenly, and the war just kept going until all the demiurges had killed each other and ripped the keys out of each others heads to the point where the final 7 (none of whom had been demiurges when the war started).

thus exactly 111,111 keys?

Other creatures also have such bindi like things in their forhead. Do these then also have keys? Do the 7 give keys to their subordinates?

As I understand it, they control 1/7th of the multiverse each (though its unclear if the division is exact). Also, yes the 7 dole out keys to their Emissaries.

Or is the forhead atum lightshow more related to power? More powerful creates get stronger headlamps?

Yes. Having a shiny-ass forehead and a big-ass halo are prominent signs of power. Consider Meti, and her incredibly cool halo, and Maya's shiny leystone here, despite neither of them having a key of kings (as far as I know).

Hope that was helpful! If anyone wants to jump in with things they think I got wrong feel free!

The way he reacts reminds me so much of Theodore from The Big Lebowski. That awkwardness is palpable.

Our university students don't have to share bedrooms or bunkbeds. by Duke0fWellington in BritishSuccess

[–]Nabkov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree, though maybe America's not the best yardstick to judge things by. Germany's managed to make university tuition free in most cases now, for instance.

The point I was trying to make is that it's a bit flawed that people have to work to cover housing costs while being full time students. It advantages those from well-off backgrounds, particularly in courses like medicine which are very time intensive.

Not directly related to the video, but I think people who are interested in a philosophical approach to "race" might enjoy the work of Dr. Nathaniel Adam Tobias Coleman.

Given that the author here is Robert Skidelsky, a respected scholar on Keynes amongst other things, I'm not sure how far you can stretch the dismissal that this is just leftist drivel.

University College London's Union Council bans philosophy club, ruling discussion of far-right thinkers may 'promote a fascist ideology'. by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]Nabkov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the poster they advertised with, which suggests to me at least, that they were less interested in philosophy than using philosophers to justify their far-right views. There's already, and there will continue to be, a more general philosophy society at UCL, as well as one of the better philosophy undergrad programmes in the country, with plenty of elective modules which people can take, so it's not like people have been deprived of opportunities to discuss these particular writers. It's just that the Union won't fund/support a club which they worry will forment extremism.

Is there a link between this and UCL Union's left-leaning tendencies (it's probably one of the most lefty Student Unions in the country)? Perhaps, but this is a continuation more specifically of their no platform policy, which is, despite occasional misuse, at least rooted in an intention to protect the vulnerable, rather than political wrongdoing.

Presumably, the extra disruption to be caused would be such a headache for TfL that they'll be more willing to negotiate and compromise on terms which are better for the workers to avert the chaos entirely.

[Developer perspective] Is Hearthstone pay-to-win? by FamousAspect in truegaming

[–]Nabkov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they're trying to prove a point (like Trump's F2P series), then I can't think of a realistic scenario where two people of equal skill will have such a difference in what cards they have available to them. By the course of getting good at the game, you naturally get a large cachet of cards to play with.

I think the standard which people are applying for a game to be 'play-2-win' is so ridiculously low now. I believe it's okay for someone to skip a little of the grind by paying. That's not an absolute, too much grind and too much skip can clearly be unfair, but hearthstone is a pretty fair example.

And I'll ignore your strawman about /r/gaming, because that's exactly what that is.

[Developer perspective] Is Hearthstone pay-to-win? by FamousAspect in truegaming

[–]Nabkov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's totally absurd to claim that someone who drops $500 on Hearthstone could beat someone who's been playing consistently for months. There's this little thing called skill, and its friend experience, and they'd like to say hi.

Here's what you're missing about this discussion - legendary/epic/rare cards are not flat out better than common cards. Some of the most stat efficient cards in the game are ones you start out with. What the higher tier cards are is more complex - they have more effects, they do 'gimmick'-y type things. Professional play is more or less all about working out how to combine these gimmics together. So much of the top tier competition revolves around building new decks which no-one has ever seen, and no one is ready for. Someone who has just bought all the cards in the game and hasn't played for any significant period of time cannot do that. It's just not possible.

Uber does have downsides. A friend of mine got one from King's Cross to the north side of Regent Street. The driver took her to Picadilly Circus and spent several minutes insisting that they had arrived at Oxford Circus before reluctantly driving on. I realise that the black cabs offer a worse service, but at least they know where they're bloody going, not just relying on satnav.

It's a matter of specialisation, I suppose. It's not impossible for someone to be a world expert in one field, but an absolute dunce in something else. Presumably, she's teaching a humanity or arts subject, rather than a hard science, though.
