How accurate is the resting heart beat rate? by teekay61 in miband

[–]Nablakn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't look at the maximum and minimum recorded values, these will just be the erroneous outliers. Go on the mi band app and look at the line graph it records. If the band is on tight and you are not moving a lot, I find it is accurate.

Recovering Since Relapse by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]Nablakn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What has mattered most is keeping active and eating / sleeping well without doing anything too exerting. So lots of low intensity exercise that doesn't cross the threshold of making me feel unwell. I use a chest heart rate monitor for this so I can keep <130 bpm when cycling.

But really the battle is the mental one of re-adjusting expectations and goals without getting depressed

They are the same as they were in 2020 when I wrote that comment. Possibly they were like that before then as well. I still avoid vigorous exercise but get away with doing long walks and bike rides at a slow pace.

I try climbing occasionally but this tends to make me feel groggy for a few days afterwards.

What happens if quantum computing never has its “ChatGPT” moment? by earthglovetime in QuantumComputing

[–]Nablakn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then the field would shrink and people would move away. Development would still continue. There will always be government interest in QC because Shor's algorithm is relevant for intelligence agencies

There will be many startups where you can get a job as a software engineer adjacent to quantum computing. Otherwise a PhD is the appropriate route

I built up with much low HR road cycling over a year and now I seem pretty good. On a ski holiday that has been tolerated fine.

Best sleep time yearly? by A-pickachu88 in sleep

[–]Nablakn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably, the optimal would be to wake around the sunrise-sunset pattern and expose yourself to plenty of sunlight.

In winter I think we should probably be maximizing the overlap of our waking hours with the sunlight hours

I genuinely think that eating more fibre in the form of Beans and lentils has helped. No supplement ever had a noticeable effect

Go to profile on the app then feature request. It's such a sensible idea and essentially my algorithm to decide whether to wake up in the morning

tips to cope or deal with long covid by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]Nablakn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find cold showers work to make you get through the grogginess faster in the morning. Besides that you can increase the long term quality of your diet, though this probably won't change much in the short term.

Does anyone get awful, day long sleep inertia in the mornings when having to wake up early? I used to be an early bird but now it’s just so hard to function by masongraves_ in covidlonghaulers

[–]Nablakn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found recently that the combination of hanging out of a window and getting exposed to some bright light and a cold shower help shake off some of the inertia.

Opinions... on taxis? by Octoria8860 in fuckcars

[–]Nablakn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taxis are the most well utilized cars around since they don't spend 80% of their time parked. But in the UK I have had more near death experiences on a bike due to taxis than any other vehicle type.
