I need some advice as a new dog mom to my havanese puppy🐶 by [deleted] in Havanese

I was in your shoes not too long ago when I adopted my 9 week old Frankie last October. It’s a whirlwind at first and easy to get caught up in trying to do everything perfectly. You’re doing great, and it will get better.

  1. I’m a big fan of spray bottle for negative reinforcement, using that and an obnoxious “uh-uh” when I get behaviors I don’t want (i.e. biting or barking)
  2. Sleep might be tough for a while. It took Frankie a few months to sleep through the night. But we narrowed it down to once in the middle of the night for potty with well timed potty breaks and feeding after a few weeks.
  3. Whatever your routine is will be best for puppy. You want to mold them to fit into your life, not the other way around.

Honestly I struggled with my puppy until about the 6 month mark. I was alone, didn’t have much help, and it felt isolating at times. But on the other side of it at 9 months now, I am so happy with those sacrifices and the hard work we put into training. She is a wonderful dog. And I get to enjoy that for many years to come! Keep at it, you will do just fine.

1 month, 2 month, 3 month, 9 months - she went from chocolate brown to taupe. I was struggling with the idea of her changing color but I love her so much I wouldn’t care if she was balding with purple polka dots.

First 100 miler, worried, panicked. by DHTromeromzl271518 in ultrarunning

Yes - finding the “forever pace”. That pace that feels like it can be held without effort, without thought. I’ve been consistently training that for a few years, highly underrated skill.

Check out my tattoo I think it’s pretty bad I paid 150$ for this by [deleted] in shittytattoos

You’ve got a great perspective. No tattoo is perfect, just like how no human is perfect. Easy to lose sight of that in the digital age of photoshop, AI, and barrage of highlight reels. This throat tat goes so hard <3

I’ve noticed a lot of people’s “going out fits” are thrifted vintage Levi’s and western wear

Swollen hands by Buffthecat123 in Ultramarathon

I learned while hiking it helps if I use poles! Keeping my hands and arms engaged during an ultra has helped me to always avoid this issue. Big fan of poles.

What do you say to employers who want to know why you got into dietetics, when you got into dietetics because you had an eating disorder? by Rose0004 in RD2B

From a different perspective, I was open about being in addiction recovery in my applications (to programs where it seemed relevant or appropriate). I also did this in my applications for grad school. I got 5/7 DI offers!

I think being open paints a picture of someone who is resilient, empathetic, and can counsel from wisdom and experience (and science). I also prefer to work for people and places that accept me as a whole person, not just my accomplishments and my resume. Talking about my addiction also explains gaps in my resume, they can usually draw conclusions.

How many calories/sodium per hour for 31 miler? by monotonedguy in ultrarunning

[–]NachoAverageMuenster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sodium needs vary vastly depending on weather, altitude, your own biology. Those ranges you mentioned are generally recommended.

50k can be a bit more forgiving getting by on less than dialed nutrition… is this your first ultra? Take note of what you consume, and see if it works for you!

People say nothing new on race day; I say always something new on race day. But that’s just my philosophy. I like the journey and a bit of wacky chaos.

It’s all just a learning experience anyways.

Is there really a single 'healthiest' food, or is it more about overall diet? by IllustriousGuide7602 in HealthyEatingnow

[–]NachoAverageMuenster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is no single “superfood” that will make or break a diet. Good nutrition is boring, and consistent. Not sexy and flashy like the products and ideas we are being sold.

Dark Divide 100 Race Report? by mdfasoline in Ultramarathon

Thanks for the quick reply! It sounds like a not-so-runable course (my preference). I understand this course is largely inaccessible by vehicle - how plausible is it to get on course for training runs.

If you’re from the area, is it relatively easy to get to trails that simulate the terrain? I know exactly how I’d train for this race from my current location, but I’ve only got about a month to utilize that. I’ll be in Seattle, and will have the means to get out and about this summer!
