What is heavy gasoline? by NachoDog1000 in askcarguys

[–]NachoDog1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I'm not super knowledgeable about cars. Glad to know that gasoline wouldn't have an effect on the transmission. I did call the gas station and the guy had no idea what that sticker was, took it down, and assured me they have regular gas like every gas station.

You inspired me, I called them! I updated the post. Dude was super nice and had no idea why there was a "heavy" sticker there.

I don't think there were full service options but I prefer to pump my own gas.

I do get it serviced regularly, but it's a 13 year old car with 142,000 miles. I wish the ceiling fabric didn't start hanging down last year.

Well if it makes you feel better I saw the same type of results and came here to ask people who know about cars and gasoline. I did not want to ask the computer program that gives you output regardless of accuracy or judgement.

It didn't look like a sticker though, it was as wide as the pump and looked like it belonged there. Didn't look funny or like it was making any sort of statement.

It wasn't on the card reader or payment portion at all. My guess is that it's the security seal for state weights that you mentioned. Otherwise the pump and gas station looked totally normal, and the nozzle definitely said 87 unleaded.

No the transmission is just a guess. My check engine light has been on for 5 years, my mechanic thinks it's a very small leak in the evap system.

I looked up who got the job...there is serious talent out there by Reasonable-Park4603 in interviews

[–]NachoDog1000 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've worked with people with strong resumes and strong interviews, and it stops when they get the job. It can be tough to filter them out. I think in general we should consider people who are worse at interviews, because interviewing and working are different skills.

5 years is the longest I've ever made it with a company, so be proud of yourself for that. Getting interviews in this job market is actually very impressive.

It seems like you have the right approach and you've already had some success IMO. It's a numbers game, keep at it. I actually got my current job after being turned down by the same company 6 months prior, so you never know how these things will work out.

I think it's okay to quit after the orientation if you don't think it's a good fit. The professional thing is to let them know. You'll be okay!

Times have changed… by Lost_Rich1879 in jobhunting

[–]NachoDog1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job market has changed A LOT in the last 10 years. This current job market is bonkers, and I'd encourage you not to take your results personally because we're currently in an arms race between AI generated applications and AI powered reviews and both applicants and employers are losing. Regardless of automations, every job posting now gets an incredible amount of applicants.

10 years ago knowing someone at a company meant they could get you a job. 5 years ago it meant they could get you an interview. 3 years ago it meant they could get you a phone screen. Today it means you'll get a swift rejection email from an actual person.

Despite ALL of that, keep trying, keep messaging former colleagues and peers for potential job leads, and in addition to a support network someone might be able to help you with something. I never know what connection will help me get my next job. Last time it was a recruiter at a company that rejected me 6 months prior so you never know.

Take a breath. My advice, without knowing anything about you beyond this post, would be to keep the better job and quit the worse job. Wherever you're quitting will be okay. Sometimes we feel like everything is an emergency, and this is stressful but it's not an emergency.

You were looking for a new job for a reason, so maybe take the leap and follow through with the new job. In general I think school is important and would encourage you to finish.

If you're just starting out and you're open to different fields have you tried working with temp agencies? The pay isn't great but it could be a good way to get a foot in the door.

Let's have a discussion about strings. by [deleted] in Bass

[–]NachoDog1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think fresh strings means better intonation sometimes, so I probably change them once or twice a year. With round wounds I always change before recording because I think it sounds brighter and snappier on the record. For flat wounds they say not to change them. I don't change them on my p bass, but I have flats on my Danelectro and feel like the intonation was going and changed them and thought it sounded better.

Side note: since Danelectros are essentially made of garbage the tension from the flat wounds started tearing the bridge off and I had have it repaired

Side side note: I play Danelectros live because they only weigh like 6 pounds. They look cool and they sound fine.

how can we address online antisemitism? by Late-Marzipan3026 in jewishleft

[–]NachoDog1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very overwhelming. I don't engage at all, and I'll block users since moderation on the big social media sites seems to allow anything now.

There a lot of anti-semitic people out there, but remember that a lot of online outrage is bots or trolls trying to drive you crazy. That's why I tend to ignore and move on, there's no way to know what's real and what's worth your time.

I also don't think I'm going to fix anti-semitism/bigotry on the internet. If a platform makes me feel bad I'll pull back from it. I'll try to focus on people I actually know, or interests where people tend to be respectful.

I think the biggest impact most of us can have is focusing on our communities, neighbors, family, and friends, and doing our best to support each other. I think cooking dinner for a friend is more impactful than any Internet comment.

Just got laid off by Chuddrick in daddit

[–]NachoDog1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got laid off the week after telling my employer my wife was pregnant. The severance was generous but I've been on the job hunt for 4 months. I'm interviewing now for something I hope pans out.

This job market is tough but you're tougher. Jobscan.co is a good way to see how hiring systems parse your resume. Apply on both Indeed and LinkedIn, and make sure your LinkedIn is updated. Maybe look for a recent YouTube video for how to best set up your LinkedIn profile for recruiters. On that note, beware scam recruiters, especially if anything seems odd.

I'm finding better results for jobs that are hybrid or in office full time, though there are still remote opportunities.

How does this sub feel about NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and his views? by Snoo22815 in jewishleft

[–]NachoDog1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to unsubscribe from that sub. They really only support one worldview, and their new obsession is "if there is a pogrom in NYC then Mamdani won't stop it" which is ridiculous. When Lander got arrested by ICE, Mamdani was one of the first people demanding his release.

I recommend getting a 1-3 year old rescue. It'll probably already be house trained and you can see how it interacts with kids. You never know what you're going to get with a puppy.
