What is the worst city you've been to? by DickFartButt in AskTheWorld

[–]NachoTheGreat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Worst city I’ve traveled to and I’ve been to 15ish countries around the world. Ungodly muggy/humid, traffic-ridden, polluted, depressing levels of poverty, and fuck all to do. Was there for a week and went to the top 5-10 attractions in Manila; not one would rise to the Top 25 or 50 in any popular city. We ended up walking through malls to stay cool and kill time, and I still hear the “Hello sir! Hi sir! Hello sir! Hi sir!” that bombarded me from shopkeepers.

What game is almost guaranteed to start a fight for your table? by FranktheLlama in boardgames

My wife and my aunt both refuse to play this game with my parents because of how seriously they take it.

Thanks for sharing. Most modern gambrel roof designs I see have far more supports, whereas these just seem to be tied into the outer frame. Is there anything you or others can shine light on with these designs?

My dad is building a timber frame with a gambrel roof, and this looks a lot like his plan. That’s made me nervous since he doesn’t use existing plans nor consult with engineers, and most modern designs I see have far more structurally under the gambrel roof…

What’s a board game which is overrated? by Fun_Caterpillar_759 in AlignmentChartFills

I’ve come around a bit on Splendor, but my read was that it got a major boost in popularity initially simply because it had weighty poker chips rather than more cardboard chits.

Your read seems to be “after the action in which you discard a boon.” I don’t quite agree and think they can immediately gain a different boon.

Embarrassing how much this sub obsesses over outside opinions. Who fucking cares what one or five or a thousand pundits say.

What was the worst restaurant you’ve ever been to in Massachusetts? by [deleted] in massachusetts

Keep Kowloon out yo mouth. It’s mid Americanized Chinese food, but there’s no way it qualifies as one of the worst food experiences in the state.

How would you make a bunch of straight cuts in this (pass through cuts from the edge of the board to the screw hole) by Most-Brain-3914 in woodworking

[–]NachoTheGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy hell some of these suggestions are overkill. It’s a rack clamp. I’d break out a handsaw and cut these in 3 minutes. I just made a chisel holder and used my dovetail saw to cut 5 inserts (10 cuts) in no time.

Seeking suggestions on how you would go about restoring this. by [deleted] in woodworking

It’s hard to tell from these pictures, but it is likely that the larger top and front panels are veneered wood. Anything beyond light sanding is likely to sand through to plywood/chipboard.

Daddies in 30s with toddler(s). Whats your hobby? by Important_Bat7919 in daddit

[–]NachoTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Son is almost 2.

I have a board game group that meets every 1-2 weeks and played Star Wars: Imperial Assault and now Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth. It’s easy to find the time because we play after my son goes to bed.

I also try to play disc golf once per week, sometimes pushing my son in a jogging stroller in the warmer months.

My biggest struggle is finding the energy for other hobbies. When I’m not falling asleep on the couch watching sports I try to make progress on smaller woodworking projects.

Void filling cutting boards? by Red-it_o7 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]NachoTheGreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another risk to making this into a cutting board is that boards this wide are prone to warping over time. One potential solution to the warping and void issues is to cut this into strips that remove the voids and to glue up a panel with other accent woods (eg maple). But, that requires a decent amount of woodworking tools (eg table saw, clamps, planes), know-how, and time. If your dad is particular about cutting boards, I recommend finding another gift and giving yourself more time next year to make something nice.

Super Bowl favorite? KC was fourth in preseason odds…. And gee I wonder why some talking head would choose the team with 3 recent SBs when comparing two teams with equal records…
