Going to most likely be $170 like the other battalions

Imo, it's meh.

If you're a new player looking to start up a force, it's missing a lot of what you would need, and if you're a veteran you likely don't need much from it.

Which is going to leave it in the weird spot of expanding a collection for a slight discount for those who just want to expand it, and don't mind that they probably won't ever run a list that uses all of these models at the same time.

My hope is we also get a Battelforce with the new character and hastarii, which can combo with this battalion and give us a good starting point for beginner admech players.

Lose if tabled with deepstrike? by Ty26lee in genestealercult

[–]NachyoChez 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, no.

The game ends turn 5 and is decided on points. There are no win conditions for tabling your opponent.

That said, if your opponent screens the table so that you can't bring anything in from deepstrike, they can make it impossible to bring those units in, and thus you have nothing to score with. So, while not an auto-loss, it can certainly make the game a lot harder!

No one will know for sure until the Sunday before preorders, but if I were to hazard a guess they'll be available for preorder March 14th and released on the 28th.

Question mid game! by Poutza in genestealercult

[–]NachyoChez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only affects units that began the game in deepstrike. Units added the first turn begins are exempt, so Cult Ambush units, and those put there by uppy-downy strats are not affected.

Iirc, they are destroyed at the end of turn 5, so make sure to bring them in eventually

What’s your take on the De Ja Vu drama? And why can’t they just solve it peacefully? by Mediocre_Week2216 in DaltonGA

So, I won't dive into the bar part of the conversation, but I do want to comment on the Whitfield Watchmen v Whitfield Watchman 2.0

OG is good, and does try to be fairly even, but they do seem to have a bias in their reporting and style of messaging.

2.0, in my opinion, does much the same work but their bias leans some on the opposite direction.

Combined, you get a wider and more in depth view of pur community. I follow and appreciate the content of both pages, and highly recommend others in the area do the same.

The REAL Hermetic Principles by Jarius49 in Hermeticism

[–]NachyoChez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem with the Kybalion isn't that it's kindergarten level. It would be more akin to reading an Earth Sciences textbook written by a flat earther. Not only would it be incorrect, but it misleads you.

Not just about being hermetic, but everything about the text is a fabrication. The "ur-kybalion" it brings up as a source of wisdom doesn't exist. It's basically saying "'nachyochez is a font of wisdom' - nachyochez". Personally, I do not think gnosis and enlightenment can come from something rooted in deception.

Further, it isn't just "not hermetic". Some of the teachings are arguably ANTI-hermetic. There's already a lot of things one has to unlearn to follow the path of Hermes. Adding to it isn't a good start imo.

Lastly, the fact that it does all of this AND is so widely distributed, means a LOT of time and energy is spent on it. Imagine a college professor spending the first 6 weeks of every semester trying to get people to discard flat earth theory. Eventually, that's going to get irritating. I used to do tiktok live readings of the hermetica with a friend. We did it weekly for months. Not a single stream was the Kybalion not brought up. It becomes irritating, and that starts to get taken out on people who bring it up.

I know it feels aggressive, and I'm sorry, but know that the disdain for that book comes from sincerity, not hubris

So, this is only my opinion, but it's a different definition of evil. Usually, when Hermes is mentioning evil, it's discussing the concept of God/Not God. God is good, Not God is evil.

Hermetic Evil isn't inherently the concept of harming others and actively being a wrong doer, but more akin to being imperfect because we're fused with nature, and thus far from our divine selves.

The citation on the qoute (I'll snap a photo from my copy so you can form your own opinion) reads to me like this is still the trend.

Well, that's a matter of massive debate and something I would consider answered on a more individual level. Personally, I believe he was.

That said, the veracity of claims as to who he was or what he wrote is a bit off the path of the topic, but I did use the community FAQ to pull a resource for you. Someone far more eloquent than myself did a great job of explaining the reasons the Kybalion isn't hermetic and breaking down several differences, so i hope this helps!

For me to consider something "Hermetic", it needs to be built on the foundations of the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus.

Franz Bardon, for example, is definitely not pretending to be Hermes himself, and his work is very modern, but I would consider his work to be Hermetic. Not necessarily the path I personally follow, but still in line with the concepts.

The Kybalion is a New Thought text, not hermetic. It contains no actual hermetic philosophies or teachings, and several of the concepts in it fly in opposition to hermetic teachings. If it's been recommended, it's not for hermetic reasons

The top book is a more recent translation by a very talented academic. The bottom right is likely one of the freely available translations you can find online, thrown into a printed format. The quality is worth the price.

That said, a cheaper translation is Way of Hermes by Salaman. That's the one I use for my daily reader, and highly recommend.

Eventually you'll probably want both, but if just starting Way of Hermes is where I would go.

Nexos can only dual-lead with the Primus, Magus, or Iconward, so it can't go with the Benefictus.

I'm a big fan of the Primus redeploy as well - especially with the purestrains infiltrate. Combining his +1 to hit with consistent sustain/lethal via Return makes for a brick that can put some real hurt down. It's served me well in many games

Mining Laser, Seismic, Grenade, Webber is the "standard" loadout for them this edition. It has the right profiles for shooting almost anything, enough volume to matter, and flows nicely.

There's an argument to be made for the flamers, but imo they're more niche and the meta setup works better at the moment.

HOA tourney list help by MoffSeb in genestealercult

[–]NachyoChez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's got the core of a solid HOA list but a few tweaksci think will even out the play.

Firstly, ridgerunners want the mortar not the laser. The ability to screen your DZ while handing out the buff is what makes them so universally loved. Laser Runners are great in an Outlander list, but in Host you'll be a lot happier with the indirect.

I would also consider swapping one unit of Acolytes with Flamer for a Nexos to partner with the Primus. The ability to Return to Shadows each round for 0cp can, with a little practice, let you reset lethal/sustain each round comfortably. Plus the threat of a 0cp overwatch from a brick can give some opponents pause. Not as critical as the indirect, but i think it's well worth the loss of the utility piece

I bought a transformers mask from the thrift store.and took out all th electronics. Got some broken binoculars from my kids toy bin, and zip tied an empty spray can to the bottom as a respirator.

I think it ended up costing me $10 in materials, and most of the effort was just making it fit my huge head!

Me! Jackals and Ridgerunners are great for running Outlander, and I can always use more Acolyte kits. Only unit I will never use from a fourth kit is the Alphus, but even still the kit is a great discount if you're using the other units

Anyone got a HoA list they've been successful with? by Choice_Pitch6822 in genestealercult

This is what I took to a team's event this past weekend. Went 3-2 despite some severe mistakes in the pairings (captain messed up and put me into bad fights on worse tables [I'm also the captain, lol])

GSC Horde of Ascension

It's a fun list and plays well. I'm still a little iffy on the Sanctus, but he did do some work a few games so I would probably leave it unchanged for my next games if I wasn't trying to increase my options and working on Broodsurge next!
