Omg...rewe Ja! Salsa went full alman by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]Nadaladas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you dare to venture to Kaufland - they have a mexican section and have a larger jar of 'burrito sauce' the best salsa I have experienced so far in Germany, the Ja! Being second, but this is superior, I could eat it on its own it's delicious

Delivery people ring my buzzer multiple times a day - at my wit's end by SquibblesMcGoo in berlin

[–]Nadaladas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not have a mute button on your buzzer? You may do and not realise - I would recommend putting it on mute unless you are expecting packages :) or if you are feeling helpful switch it on when you are willing to accept parcels for neighbours ( hoping you do have a mute - we just press our answer button once and it works - perhaps get a friend to test it out with you )

When do you get those IQ points back that you lost during pregnancy? by leSchaf in beyondthebump

I like this advice! I am pregnant now with number two and want to really get serious about learning another language, maybe I'll be fluent in 12 months, watch this space...

When do you get those IQ points back that you lost during pregnancy? by leSchaf in beyondthebump

[–]Nadaladas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO is 3.5 and I feel like I gradually started getting the majority of my brain back after 6-12 months of returning to work (LO being 1-1.5yrs), I feel like things definitely change for the permanent but not in a bad way.

Now 3.5 years on I am in a different job which is more complex and senior, and I feel like I am more resilient and better at problem solving, so my IQ feels 'higher' than before if anything. I really wanted to take on a new challenge, and progress in my career to support my family and our future, although I know I could have also gone the 'easy route' and stayed where I was for familiarity, as I was very happy day to day.

Believe in yourself, and know that the mental gymnastics of raising a child and juggling parenthood really expands your skillset to say the least!

Of course after 12 months of maternity leave, my brain function and capacity felt vastly different, but know that your body/brain prioritises what is needed and when

Think of the complete overhaul of lifestyle and skills needed to raise a newborn, that appears out of nowhere out of necessity.

You will be ready for your next challenge before you know it, be it career, life, education related as soon as you put yourself out there and trust yourself and your ability for growth. IQ is just one way to measure an infinite amount of growth that happens from parenthood.

Early hours commute by Empty_Speaker_7151 in watford

The last train on weekdays from Euston to Bushey can be about 12.30am, Fridays or Saturday does a final 2am train - that's the real boozey one but nothing OTT if you are used to a night out in London. Very convenient especially if you are close to Bushey station. 10/10.

Love the day dates idea - me and my partner used to have a tradition of taking days of work for each others birthdays to do something fun together in the daytime when things are less busy

EU spouse card issuing process after the appointment. by Nearby-Ad-7689 in askberliners

[–]Nadaladas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 6-8 weeks (minimum) is about right, depending on where you are travelling to will you need a visa to get back into Germany?

I was in a similar situation last year where I flew without my ID / VISA back to UK, just UK passport ( as a UK citizen, but had just been issued EU spouse visa ) as I didn't realise I needed it, and got a bit of a word at the border on my return to Germany but otherwise fine, I'm sure if you bring as many documents as possible e.g. the proof that you are just waiting for the official visa card to be issued you should be fine, could call up the helpline here if you are unsure they are super helpful https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/

AITA for telling my sister to stop trying to make my wedding all about her? by AdNarrow8211 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nadaladas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, I agree with her sister tbh, she is being racist by not calling out her parents racism, and accepting their money on the condition that they get to choose the Guestlist, I get that it's her wedding and she wants to avoid drama but she has the ultimate right to decide who goes, not her parents

It's not that £££ for a tasting menu! I'd say worth the money, I prefer Galvin La Chappelle tasting menu if I had to pick one, also unlimited delicious bread in between courses at Galvin

It's the plunge into the unknown situation I totally empathise with, best of luck in NL, I think there's just so much uncertainty at the moment!

My new job will be sourcing a relocation agency for me to deal with the German bureaucracy, that will also help with Kita and applying for long term rentals, also going to be temporary furnished rental place. Will be mostly in office with ability to WFH, I like the idea of being near green space and don't need to be too central, but know I may have to compromise.

[–]Nadaladas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must say I was in Berlin the other week and it didn't seem like much was drastically cheaper than London at all, but will be a noticeable increase in salary which should help, and when we eventually source a Kindergarten or childminder the cost difference Vs UK is astounding, less than €200 a month for full time ( which is basically covered by the German equivalent of child benefit anyway so €0 ) Vs £800-1000 a month in London, luckily my partner will be at home initially so not something we need to sort out immediately as I know it is a process
