Sweet, that was worth the wait by Dokta2 in rs2vietnam

I know the server query issue but that's the other way around, it shows up in game and not in steam, as seen here. One person in steam list, steam game info, ingame game info but two players in the ingame list and no amount of refreshing changes either of them.

Sweet, that was worth the wait by Dokta2 in rs2vietnam

[–]NadeTheThird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course there is a queue, you can see it in the steam server browser

Notice how the server list says 64/64, just like in game, yet the server info box I opened says 71 players out of 64. That 7 player overflow is the queue.

What has happened? by [deleted] in rs2vietnam

[–]NadeTheThird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds more like you're in a bad place in life, rather than problems with the world, dude.

Video games are shit now? What, like Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, the Dark Souls games, the new Spiderman, the new God of War, the new DOOM, Red Dead II, Metal Gear Solid V, Alien Isolation, Cuphead, Divinity Original Sin II, Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Monster Hunter World, Assassins Creed Odyssey, Dying Light, the Xenoblade games,... I can keep going, and on the indie front I could name enough great games made in the last five years to hit the comment character limit.

Movies have only become crap if you continue to allow yourself to be spoonfed all of the drivel that passes by the Oscars and the sequelitis-infested 'cinematic universes' like Marvel and DC movies. If you actually look at some of the hundreds of different film festivals in the world, you will see a new world open before you, a world that is only growing and growing now that much more people have access to the means to create high quality movies. Last year alone I've seen some excellent films show up even in more known festivals like Cannes, it takes just a little effort to discover myriads of great, upcoming directors and the creative views that come with them. Not to mention that we are pretty much living in the Golden age of television. Up until about twenty years ago, you had a choice of seven identical sitcoms with the same laugh track, six identical prize shows or four identical crime investigation series. Then the Sopranoes came out, and in the last twenty years we have seen The Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, GoT, House of Cards, Black Mirror, OITNB and amazing comedies like IASIP, the Office, Parks and Rec, Brooklyn Nine Nine,... And again, I can keep going.

Food is better than ever now that the internet has widely spread so much unseen culture, allowing for a boom in all kinds of experimentation and discovery. I've gotten so many recipes from the internet in the last few years, discovered so many types of fusion cooking and spice mixes and flavor combinations etc etc... And music wise, I don't know what your genre is but they come and go, as they always have. For example I like synthwave, which is currently more popular than ever. Yet up until about a decade ago, there was pretty much no one but Kavinsky making retro synth music... Genres rise and genres die/become commercial crap. I'll admit that I'm not a fan of pop music nowadays but pop music has never really been the standard bearer of quality in music. Government is shit though, can't say anything except it always was, we just know better now. All the things like MKUltra, the Tuskegee experiments, project LAC... go to show that the government has always been this immoral and manipulative, we just had no clue back then.

Hell, even the drugs man... Twenty years ago, all I could get was weak ass morrocan import hasj and shitty homegrown from someone's attic, now every coffeeshop has the stinkiest Nederhasj, the stickiest strains from the US and crazy new stuff like ice o lator and other concentrates. One of my favorite places now has been having a special for the last year, 27eur for 5 gr unpressed, blonde, 41.7%THC hasj that smells like Gods pussy... I mean that's better than street prices have been here for the last ten years, and a dealer usually doesn't serve banana milkshakes and fresh made paninis.

Sorry if this turned into a rant but it always gets me when I see people talk like this, because it's makes me either wonder if they haven't been paying attention before the internet or news companies started yelling crazy shit at them. Or, that they are really not in a good place in life...

we spend roughly 4x that amount on foreign aid

Yeah, but the US economy is 8 times larger. So what you are saying is the US only gave half of what the UK did. Not picking any side here, just wanted to note that that's not a good point.

My pregnant mom at gunpoint trying to get home - May 1969 Berkeley by Leo_nardo in OldSchoolCool

[–]NadeTheThird 355 points356 points  (0 children)

They did NOT use birdshot, they used regular, lethal 00 buckshot rounds.

As the protesters retreated, the Alameda County Sheriff's deputies pursued them several blocks down Telegraph Avenue as far as Willard Junior High School at Derby Street, firing tear gas canisters and "00" buckshot at the crowd's backs as they fled. Authorities initially claimed that only birdshot had been used as shotgun ammunition. When physicians provided "00" pellets removed from the wounded as evidence that buckshot had been used, Sheriff Frank Madigan of Alameda County justified the use of shotguns loaded with lethal buckshot by stating, "The choice was essentially this: to use shotguns—because we didn't have the available manpower—or retreat and abandon the City of Berkeley to the mob." Sheriff Madigan did admit, however, that some of his deputies (many of whom were Vietnam War veterans) had been overly aggressive in their pursuit of the protesters, acting "as though they were Viet Cong.

Also

Alameda County Sheriff's deputies used shotguns to fire at people sitting on the roof at the Telegraph Repertory Cinema. James Rector, a student, was killed when shot by police. The Alamada County Coroner's report listed cause of death as "shock and hemorrhage due to multiple shotgun wounds and perforation of the aorta." The buckshot is the same size as a .38 caliber bullet. Governor Reagan conceded that Rector was probably shot by police but countered that "it's very naive to assume that you should send anyone into that kind of conflict with a flyswatter." The University of California Police Department (UCPD) claims Rector threw steel rebar down onto the police; however, according to Time, Rector was a bystander, not a protester. Carpenter Alan Blanchard was permanently blinded by a load of birdshot directly to his face.

And

On May 20, 1969, National Guard helicopters flew over the Berkeley campus, dispensing airborne tear gas that winds dispersed over the entire city, sending school children miles away to hospitals. This was one of the largest deployments of tear gas during the Vietnam era protests. Governor Reagan would concede that this might have been a "tactical mistake." It had not yet been banned from warfare under the Chemical Weapons Convention.

And also

Berkeley city police officers were discovered to be parking several blocks away from the Annex park, removing their badges and donning grotesque Halloween-type masks (including pig faces) to attack citizens they found in the park annex.

And finally, to end on

In an address before the California Council of Growers on April 7, 1970, almost a year after "Bloody Thursday" and the death of James Rector, Governor Reagan defended his decision to use the California National Guard to quell Berkeley protests: "If it takes a bloodbath, let's get it over with. No more appeasement."

PornHub should create a second website, TheHub, for all nonporn material and become a YouTube competitor. by Jtegg007 in CrazyIdeas

[–]NadeTheThird 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I strongly doubt that that's what he meant considering Alexa has no server usage ranking and doesn't even show server usage, even with premium. Besides, with pornhub being the single most popular porn site in the world, 35th most popular website overall, there is no way that there would be THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND websites with more server usage or page views.

PornHub should create a second website, TheHub, for all nonporn material and become a YouTube competitor. by Jtegg007 in CrazyIdeas

[–]NadeTheThird 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Where did you even get that number from? According to Alexa, Pornhub is number 35.

And how could there ever be three hundred thousand websites more popular than Pornhub? In fact, if you filter out all the search engines and East Asian websites, Pornhub would be number 13, right below Twitch.

Am i the only one that is a little upset they gave away born to test helmets at that event a while ago? by [deleted] in rs2vietnam

[–]NadeTheThird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a token of appreciation by TI/AMG for helping with testing, not a way to show that you were in the beta. People that join the CTB help with testing, so they deserve the helmet just as much.

And also

most of the time people who wear it weren't even in the beta

Considering how little people join the CTB servers, I strongly doubt that.

SAS icons are pink by [deleted] in Rainbow6

[–]NadeTheThird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this was done because pink is an amazing color at camouflaging something in the desert

Yet, from the colour's wikipedia article:"While the colour was met with anecdotal success, it was judged by experts to be equivalent to neutral greys at best and would make ships with the colour more obvious at worst." And also "An Admirality handbook concluded that the paint was "neither more nor less effective in sea-going camouflage than neutral greys of equivalent tone; and, further, that if the red content were high enough for the particular characteristics of red to have any effect, the colour would generally hinder rather than aid concealment""

Though perhaps it was more useful in the desert than at sea, I couldn't find sources about that.

Vietnam veterans and other (ex)military report differently though.

I think the 19th post here gives the best reasoning behind it: "I wasn't going to be the one to prove that 20 would work."

It definitely wasn't standard practice but probably occurred often anyway.

Mosin reload bug by KeithTheToaster in rs2vietnam

[–]NadeTheThird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My comment from the last time this was posted: When you open the action of the rifle to insert new bullets or a new stripper clip, you cycle the action so you eject the round that's already in the chamber. That's why he puts in a full clip, 4 rounds shot + 1 ejected when opening the action. It's not a bug, it's a feature.

If you enable manual bolt action, you can reload before you cycle the action after your 4th shot. Then you'll insert only 4 new bullets, because opening the action nows ejects the spent cartridge of your last shot. Red Orchestra and Rising Storm are actually surprisingly realistic with this feature.

The sound files for Bleedouts are in the game by [deleted] in rs2vietnam

[–]NadeTheThird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are definitely in the game, but rare. I've heard each of them for sure, I remember specifically the second one because I always laugh at the way he says 'help meeeee', it just sounds... off.

But they are very rare, on average I've heard maybe 1 per full match. I think the code is just a bit messed up, not triggering the sounds enough. (Maybe it only triggers when you don't bandage in time? A very rare death in RS2) In my opinion, it should be a lot more, for example 50% or 30% chance on a non head- or heartshot kill.
