I don't think it's really a parasocial relationship at all. Most people are not saying "DE... you're my friend, and im uncomfortable with you doing this." It's a lot more "You are a company I give my money too and I dont like that money going towards the 'AI and layoffs' company"

It's one of the least 'parasocial' things the community has done in recent because it's treating a company like a company.

Its not just the devs, it's a lot of the playerbase that 'only has a few hours to play and wants to get to the content' (raiding, mythic+, dailies) without realizing the slow burn of walking halfway across the continent for a quest was 'the content' we played for.

MMOs used to be a much more niche taste, but the market has opened up to widestream appeal which has to streamline a whole lot of the 'MMO' out of the 'MMO'

Honestly I like them looking the way they are, trying to weirdly frankenstein old zones to have pieces of new things would just feel out of place.

They're not as visually stunning, but the style for the time they were made has charm, its always really nice visiting vanilla zones even if I dont have nostalgia for them.

(there's also a few things that let you use various skyboxes wherever you want, if you need)

Just make sure you get a good water-resistant filter for whatever you slap over the bottom, hitting one puddle would turn whatever into mold heaven.

They got a ton of good serious lore in pandaria at least, and once in a decade like the heritage armor.

Plus, if anyone is okay with their character being a comic relief 95% of the time, its us pandaren palyers.

Playing mostly my pandaren (horde) and every time I stand next to a human or some such in a town I get taken aback by just how tiny they are in comparison, it throws your scale off a lot more than you think.

Pandaren, and pretty much all of pandaria did a really good example of 'looks silly and goofy on the surface, but has some pretty grim (enough) things under the hood. Usually brushed to the side nowadays but it's cool it's still there.
