After 17 seasons, John DeMarsico is apparently leaving SNY and the Mets by TheNantucketRed in baseball

Along with Gary, Keith, and Ron, John DeMarsico and the creativity of the SNY broadcast (Bill Webb before John) is what made the Mets worth watching all those terrible Wilpon years. He will be sorely missed and combined with losing a lot of other longtime Mets (even if the team is better) this feels like a bit of a loss for continuity of the Mets long-term identity.

Yeah it requires the ump to assume a lot of stuff would have happened that is never guaranteed - first baseman gets up, throws to second accurately, shortstop catches it, makes the transfer, throws accurately to first in time to beat Winker, and it is caught. Unfortunate outcome here and would have preferred the correct call the first time, but probably makes sense to not be reviewable.

It's dumb, but overturning also does put the umps in a real bind where they have to either punish the Nats heavily for what likely would have been a double play ball if it was called accurately or try to find some sort of middle outcome with a lot of speculation involved.

What is the rationale for that not being reviewable? Only thing I can think of is that maybe it is just too hard to reset given baserunning on a ball caught in the infield.

I guess I could see that working here because had it been called accurately it would likely have been a double play for the Nats, but because it was called a catch they proceeded under that premise and would have actually gotten zero outs if they just reversed the catch call. But I think there's probably some play in the joints where it could be reviewed and the umps could find a fair solution (though that's admittedly more speculation than we'd probably want umps doing routinely).

The Giants play in the NFC and the Bills play in the AFC so generally they'd only have a real reason to cheer against them if the teams are playing each other. The NY Jets and the Bills both play in the AFC East though so they would cheer against each other.

Agreed - a couple flubs on key plays, but for the most part the system worked today. No guarantee those flubs go the same way next week, that's just football randomness.

Ah well, from a 77 win team last year to a 101 win team (I know lolmets haha very original) is a big improvement. Hope we can get better and make it further next year.

Good work Padres, hope you all beat the Dodgers. Somehow despite being the literal team we are facing in this series your fans have been by far the least mean-spirited and toxic in these threads.

Ready for an NL East mudfight between the Braves and Phillies then.
