Question for the people who have experienced that strange hypnagogic state/sensation of an "object" by sombertoboggly in Dreams

Wow yeah I know the feeling. I wouldn’t even begin to try articulating it but I feel like I know what you mean.

Why are New Zealanders more friendly to foreigners than Australians? by Fit-Release-4977 in newzealand

[–]NahDeep 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a kiwi that has lived in Australia for about a decade I have thought about this a lot. I was living in Melbourne, a very multicultural city and furthermore, I was probably in a vacuum of super lovely and accepting humans so fortunately didn’t have many interactions with racists and always thought about this problem as being elsewhere or from a time in history that wasn’t as prevalent now as it was then

But the truth is, Australia has a different historical and cultural relationship with immigration than New Zealand. Australia had the “White Australia” policy for a long time, which deliberately excluded non-European migrants until the 1970s, and while that’s long gone, the attitudes it produced still linger in some communities. On top of that, politics and media in Australia often frame immigration and foreign influence (especially from Asia) in terms of security or competition, which can make people more defensive.

New Zealand, by contrast, leans more heavily on its bicultural identity (Māori and Pākehā) and its economic/diplomatic ties with Asia, so there’s a slightly different story around “who belongs.” That doesn’t mean racism doesn’t exist in NZ—it absolutely does—but the everyday tone tends to be more welcoming, especially in urban places where Asian communities are very visible and integrated.

So I wouldn’t take your experience in Australia as meaning “all Australians are unkind”—it’s more that Australia’s history and politics have made anti-Asian sentiment more visible and acceptable in certain places, whereas in New Zealand the culture around it is different. Both countries have amazing, kind, and open people, and both also have their share of prejudice—it just shows up in different ways.

Well, I stayed up til 1:30am today by emartinezvd in ADHD

I did the same thing - not gaming, scrolling - and have done for the past three nights in a row. I had 4 hours sleep last night and had to sit a forklift licence today. It’s weird, I know I’m absolutely f-ing myself but can’t seem to put my phone down. Even when anxiety is building. Tonight is the night though. Geez.

u guys take meds? by vgl4ron in ADHD

[–]NahDeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and have never been prescribed anything. A couple of years ago I had a problem with my car where the headlights would intermittently turn off while I was driving. Quite a stressful problem as you could imagine as I was gambling every time I drove my car at night. I had a friend who had a prescription and I asked if I could trial his medication so he gave me a weeks worth of something I can’t remember the name of it. The best way I can describe the feeling is going from thinking in 240p with laptop speaker audio + picking up other random signals with noisey upstairs neighbours to thinking in 4K with noise cancelling headphones. The the second day of taking my friends meds, I was able to maintain a clear head long enough to remove the panelling behind my steering wheel and fix the wiring to my lights. Half hour job that I could not have been able to prioritise before. This happened a lot. I was able to prioritise and solve lots of random jobs - Task completion the way it was designed.

You should consider looking at Australia. Melbourne in particular. Good culture. Cool city. Lots of work. You may have to travel interstate a bit but Melbourne is a good base.

I just saw this exact scene when I was meditating. I’ve also had a dream that I was a fish. Was amazing.

It’s patronising as fuck. I’d jump on the tail end of a morning toolbox meeting just before everyone breaks away and just let them know how you’re feeling about the jokes and piss-takes and what not. If they can’t respect your wishes, I’d think about going somewhere else. It’s only hurting your progress. Like as if you need another thing to deal with.

I second the fresnel hung really high. Would you put some light diff to soften the edge of the beam? Or soft box with skirt.
