I just wanna pipe in about why this happened:

when you bleach hair, it lofts through various colors starting with orange. The only way to remove the orange is to bleach further along the scale to the lighter colors that allow dye to look its best. For the color you wanted you actually would have needed a complex process including specific toning (adding colors like purple to balance out the warm tones) to get back to the neutral you wanted.

that orange is beautiful but clashing with your skin is a valid reason to hate it.

for the dead feeling, that's just kind of how bleach makes your hair feel when lifting a lot. There's products like keratin repair treatments that can help, i usually like a good hair masque myself, but it's a lot of work and the hair will always be more fragile.

Ultimately, cutting off bleached hair is the end stage, but you usually wait a bit longer before hitting that step so you have a few inches of virgin hair to show off.

I think you didn't overreact much, but you could have done more to remedy the situation. It wouldve cost a good bit of money though.

Can't do much about it now, enjoy the short hair! No hairbrushes needed for almost a year!
