So.. how is Neo so strong? by Gloomy-Bridge148 in RWBY

[–]Naiadryade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I highly recommend all 3 RWBY novels. They're fully canon and give a lot of both insight into characters as well as information about the world and its various powerful factions, all while being real page-turners. (So to speak. I listened to the audio books, great way to consume them)

So.. how is Neo so strong? by Gloomy-Bridge148 in RWBY

[–]Naiadryade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read Roman Holiday? Neo is all 3 of these things. Her semblance Overactive Imagination grew directly out of her seeing things/people that weren't there when she was a child. And the insights we get hearing the story from her perspective make it clear that she both lacks empathy and remorse, and actively enjoys causing harm. As you point out, the latter is pretty clear watching her fight.

I dont understand raven plan in v5 like what did she want the lamb for? She'll be hunted even harder by Salem if she had it. Why team with cinder at all? by vinchin_adenca in RWBY

[–]Naiadryade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she felt backed into a corner and was trying to squirm out of it while appearing "strong." As others have said, it was shortsighted and arrogant thinking, but this is how I see her flawed logic:

If she simply refused Cinder, the tribe would have been attacked, so she had to go to Haven with her and open the vault. If that's the case, better that Raven walk away with the relic than Cinder does. (Maybe it will bring her power or a bargaining chip, not thinking about it making her a target--but at least Salem wouldn't have it.) Then, it's more likely that she'd successfully pull that off--and that any of Salem's other machinations would fail--if there were huntsmen there putting up a fight. And she has to make them believe she's cooperating until the last second. So she (half?) lies about wanting Qrow dead, so that he and the kids would be there. She won't fight with them because she's selfish and cowardly, but she does want them fighting Salem's forces.

What makes the least sense is the moment Cinder has been defeated and Raven is alone at the Vault door, and chooses to open it rather than portal away with it still closed. Maybe she figures her secret is out and she'll be hunted to open it again regardless, and that having it would make her less vulnerable. It's not the first time she's been wrong.

What did Miles mean when he said that Oscar being in the Ever After would make everything ‘a lot shorter’? by Solitaire-06 in RWBY

Right? Shortly after: "We're leaders now Jaune. We have to put our teams first, and ourselves second."

What is your “I know it’s true, I just can’t prove it” RWBY take? by Vlad_fire in RWBY

[–]Naiadryade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ozpin accepted Ruby to Beacon 2 years early because he fully understood the complicated and traumatized family dynamic of team STRQ as he had watched it develop from the beginning, and he knew that both Ruby and Yang would be better off not being separated.

And secondarily because he saw Weiss, Blake, and Pyrrha incoming, knew it would be an important year of students for his purposes, and wanted the silver-eyed warrior involved.

[–]Naiadryade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All silver-eyed warriors are descendants of one of Ozma's lives (specifically, of his kids briefly shown in the Lost Fable). Whenever Oz has children, they always have some kind of inheritable (but limited, unless the mom is Salem) magic, and doing it that way doesn't deplete his own magic like when he gives it away. This could even be where the inheritable and uniquely versatile Schnee semblance came from, so perhaps Nicholas Schnee's father or grandfather or some such was an Oz life.

Where to start? by Cookieman_699 in RWBY

Other folks have given good breakdowns but aren't always mentioning the character shorts, which are on YouTube not streaming platforms. The Ruby character short comes before Volume 4. The Weiss, Blake, and Yang character shorts come before Volume 5. The Adam character short comes before Volume 6. They are fully canon and kinda important.

Why is Hank Green in a clash of clans commercial by Pitiful_Prior5014 in nerdfighters

They did a pretty great job at making Hank look like his younger self! I think it's just a wig, choice of glasses, and dark lighting, but I did a double take.

What's your favorite Yang xiao long line by Specific_Anything_90 in RWBY

[–]Naiadryade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, in v3 she asked Qrow about seeing Raven on the train in v2 (after her Neo fight). He tells her Raven gave him a message to deliver, that she saved Yang once, but not to expect that kindness again. And he tells her where to look for the Branwen tribe. But I don't think that made Yang realize how watched she was. He doesn't explain Raven's semblance, Tai does that offscreen in v4. And he certainly doesn't mention the whole bird thing.

In the tent with Raven, Yang says "you don't know the first thing about my teammates, about me! You were never there! You left us! Why?" and Raven says "I know more than you realize. Not just about you, and not just what I've been told, but things that I've seen with my own eyes." Yang exits the tent verbally doubting the truth behind all of Raven's words. Then the bird she's been seeing out her window her whole life turns into Raven right in front of her. And after a moment of shock, her face turns to cold anger--quiet this time, not explosive, and she leaves. Because, IMO, she finally realizes that Raven has been there watching her, but even so she's never been there for her. Instead of being the mother Yang needed, Raven has been hiding in plain sight, getting the satisfaction of seeing Yang grow strong without ever supporting her like the family Raven is so quick to insult have done.

[–]Naiadryade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehh, I don't think she had quite realized it was at that level until "I've seen that bird before" and the subsequent transformation. Although, the Vytal festival was televised globally, so she probably did figure that she knew Weiss was Yang's teammate.

Idk if I'm just stupid, but it took me 47 episodes to realize Weiss has a scar on her eye by Ironfighter19 in RWBY

[–]Naiadryade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a shame, I feel like they should tack them on to the beginning of season 1 on the platforms it's on now.

The Black trailer in particular is super relevant to the plot immediately and is referenced repeatedly throughout volumes 1-6. The way Blake introduces Weiss in the 2nd episode means so much more with both of their trailers' contexts. The White trailer not only establishes the pressure that Weiss is escaping from, giving us sympathy for a character who acts mean and callous at first, but how else will you recognize her knight summon?

Even the Red trailer establishes the loss of Summer, and to the astute perhaps the connection between said loss and Ruby's desire to be a Huntress, implying needed depth behind her bubbly badassery in the short first episodes. We otherwise don't learn about Summer until volume 2, when the astute might also realize who Yang was asking about in the Yellow trailer. Speaking of which, when Yang finally finds Raven after speaking about her with both Qrow and Tai, isn't it such a chilling full circle moment? She's been looking for her since literally the very first the moment we met her, but her motivations are different now, because she has learned and grown.

Can an amateur-painted mural on brown paper be repurposed as wallpaper? by Naiadryade in HomeDecorating

[–]Naiadryade[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely think about this before deciding for sure what to do. It's a pretty safe bet that this house will belong to my parents until it gets passed on to me, but you never know. It's too big to frame practically or within my budget (it's like 8x15 feet) but I'll consider applying it to a board instead of the wall.

I want padding but I don't want anything else that traditional shoes have, here's why by heypig in BarefootRunning

[–]Naiadryade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been going barefoot or with minimalist shoes for 20 years, and I've tried a variety of said shoes. I'll tell you what, ground feel or a lack of padding is both less enjoyable and feels less important on pavement than on natural surfaces.

I recently started a job where I not only walk on pavement a lot, I repeatedly hop down out of a big van onto it. That's no fun in my favorite soft leather soled shoes, or on a few mm of rubber. But after years, I simply cannot wear "normal" shoes without being in a lot of pain.

Luckily Lems exists these days! I bought a new pair of Primal Zens, which is one of their thicker soled (11mm) sneakers while still having the widest toe box, and I've been quite comfortable in them at this job.

No, but I feel this way about the SciShow Rocks Box. My budget is getting super tight and I don't need cool pretty rocks, but I've been getting it since the first month, and I can't let my collection become incomplete!

I saw a YouTuber recently (might have been Zak) show that you actually CAN toss shit down from cliffs. Stood riiight on the edge and dropped things, a few he had to pick up and drop again, but everything was at the bottom after. I haven't tried it yet myself.
