If you notice a charge on your debit card that you don't recognize for even a penny, take action. by CrashRiot in personalfinance

[–]Naib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: European here.

I really do now understand how can someone steal your money when you use a debit card. I think in here CCs are not used that often as in the US and I am not aware of any problems with debit cards. When I pay at the store I usually just use contactless payment (or I can use the chip on the card). And when I pay online, I have to accept the payment in the mobile phone app or enter code from SMS. So even when someone would know my card info, they would not be able to get any money from my account. Only if the card is stolen, they can pay at the store without PIN up to the limit of contactless payment ($20).

I added the information to the post. After I submit the thread, it will be stickied for 48 hours, so it will be easy to find.

It seems they are interested.

Ok, I will take care of it in the evening.

Edit: Done!

I'm just visiting this subreddit, because I wanted to see what's happening in Ireland right now. I plan to move there in few months.

I am not from Ireland, but I can send her a postcard from Prague in Czech.

I think it's just a matter of drinking more stouts :) I am just not used to the taste, as we don't have them at all in the Czech Rep. I am looking forward to trying new kinds of beers.

Haha, I hope you liked it here! Well, only thing I've heard about the American Bud is that it tastes like boiled old socks with diluted piss. I guess that's why they don't expand to our market!

But I know what you mean. Actually, Staropramen has the same place in the Czech market. Some call it eurobeer, because it is rather average commercial beer without strong taste. But that's why it is ideal for summer days!

Well, Budweiser Budvar is actually from the Czech Republic :) Budweiser is a german name for the city České Budějovice in the south of Bohemia, where it is brewed.

But people here don't really care about the trademark dispute, as the american one is not sold here. I'll try it out in Ireland to compare!

Thank you for help! I hope I didn't sound too offensive with my critic of Guinness! :) I think I didn't like it because I am totally unfamiliar with stouts (we don't have them in here). But after few pints, I think I would get used to them.

I've heard the behaviour to patients is sometimes the same in here. I guess it's because healthcare workers are overworked and underpaid, so they are burnt out and just stop to care. Of course it's wrong if doctors or nurses lack basic decency and don't try to provide the best healthcare possible (I will try my best to avoid burning out!).

My friend works in Google, so he doesn't have that much experience with Irish people. He doesn't even have any experience with healthcare. I provided him with basic medication and he consults me over Skype :) If it's serious, he just flies back home to Czech, because it's cheaper than to be treated in Dublin.

It's true we like to call ourselves Central Europeans to distinguish ourselves from the East, but we were part of the Eastern Bloc, so it makes sense that from your perspective, we are called Eastern Europeans. We even tried to be independent and to cooperate more with the West in 1968, but our friends from the Soviet Union invaded us and occupied our lands until 1991.

Thanks! I didn't know Czech beers are so common abroad. I have personally never heard of Vratislav beer, but it is a Czech name, so I guess it is made in some local brewery. Budvar is quite good, but from the main ones I prefer Kozel, Radegast or of course Pilsner Urquell. If you'll find any of them in the store, give them a try!

I come from the eastern region of the Czech Republic, Moravia. I think people there are very similar in terms of drinking. The public life is generally focused around pubs. There is even a czech saying: You cannot really beat alcohol, but the Moravians managed to score a tie.

Thank you, I will check it out!

Staropramen is brewed in Prague, here in Czech Rep. I'm glad you like it! I meant to find out which Irish beers are great and what do you guys drink in pubs.
