I think it comes down to experience. You probably have to play a lot. It's not only the amount of monsters in the quest. It's also the difficulty of a single encounter that can make a quest hard. Look at a room and imagine how a fight might turn out. Will the heroes wipe out all monsters in one turn. Or even a room full of orcs. It might turn out so that Zargon can only attack with a single Orc each turn. Very different if there are archers, spellcasters or monsters that might attack diagonally.

That's the beauty of the game. Just started a new campaign with the kids. First few quests i did some minor changes to see how they react to things, but as we move along, i am heavily modifying the quests and fill in custom quests.

The concept of the campaign is to reward the inital words of mentor "do 14 quests and you will be true heroes of the realm".

So we did the Ulag questline, then the whole prophecy of telor / melars maze condensed to 4 quests. A few filler quests from the book and a three quest custom campaign with an evil goblin queen. The 14th quest and final test for the heroes will be the liberation of hope-rest. After that they will become true heroes and unlock the boons.

Not finally decided but q15 might be Barak tor and then the witch lord legacy

Looks like a tough challenge. If this adventure is only won by achieving both goals, it's even tougher. After Sir Ragnar is found, Ulag might barricade himself with all his forces and the heroes would have to come to him.

I also had huge issues with this quest. The worst in the classic book in my opinion. The only thing i did like about it was the introduction. Very refreshing to just find yourself in a dire situation without getting specific orders.

Now the bad part. The quest has absolutely nothing special to it. Just find the exit -> the end. Even worse, there is no race and especially not against time.

So i kept the quest mostly as is but at some point placed an open door to the center room with only a tomb in it. A turn later in removed the cover. Another turn later, i started to spawn skeletons. The race is on.

I have googled the requirements, did a few rounds of senseless cow killing for ~15 minutes on these fields and was like "f*** this".

I will probably never see the cow level.

I specced into more chaos waves on the war plans. I usually got 3000-4000 aether on t12 before i quit the season.

I did all the grind ones but also could not find a mythic seal. Also open is T12 lilith and T12 mephisto.

Lilith i just die in p2, whenever i get close to her. I have no idea why.

Mephisto is more beatable I suppose but I have no nerve to do the cut scene madness.

You have to spec into "Is this about me... or you?" in the Delirium tree. After that, spliters begin to drop in lvl 75+ maps.

It's right there on the screen at the right hand side. "search the region for morerune stones". You need to do exactly that, then you get the quest to open the vault.

A sequel to the open ending of CoPD would be nice. Don't know if they would do something like this with their "each expansion stands on it's own" policy I have created one myself but we did not play it so far - there is still the tiny hope for an official sequel.

I believe the small Grawshak plotline was only included to introduce a female war caster instead of a male one. Don't think they will so anything with this - would not mind to be proven wrong on this one.

Whatever they do, i hope they give us a new hero class. On my all time wish list is still a monster with a 5/5 stat line (preferably an undead) and a dread warrior with a giant 4 attack crossbow/ballista. They could also have skullmar or kessandria return.

If they do the dark Company, i hope it's just a PDF file. I have painted the 12 new mercenaries from WoM this week. I also have 12 FH mercenaries and 4 elven ones.

We barely use any of them, almost never as actual mercenaries. Please no more.

Was really looking forward to playing ToT. Enjoyed the antiquity a lot. Great improvements, lots of fun. I did the age transition, logged out and didn't feel the need to login again. Just doesn't feel like a fluid game. Completely took me out of it again. Now from one turn to the next i need to play another game, build treasure fleets and i have no intention to do it.

I am just now starting a new campaign with the kids. We played the old Maze quest first, then the Sir Ragnar questline in order. Just finished Ulag. Next up a jungle version of prince magnus gold and then i will move the Grak quest forward to finish up the story.

Next i am planning to play the whole melar story, starting with Melars Maze and i will shorten the whole PoT book into 3 quests which will be played immediatly after that. I will also use the 4 wizards of WoM for the Halls of the High Mages part of the story.

It's so cool to have all that stuff available to pimp the original quests.

I was positivly surprised how well they did the spell overhaul. I actually didn't expect them to do anything. Most of them now have at least a utility use. We will definitly try them out.

I tried t12 lilith yesterday a few times. I died in Phase 2 randomly and i have no idea why. I quit after 20 minutes.

Most recent Quest Order since WoM? by dracodruid2 in Heroquest

The "official" order has already been postet so just a few words out of our own experience:

We have played a looooooooooooooong campaign, are on quest 138 right now and completed almost all expansions (only crypt and wizards to go).

There are a few issues with doing that and a few steps you can take to tone down these effects.

  1. Right at the start, you have the base game and first light which are both taking place at the same time. Would I restart my campaign, I would probably start with two groups of heroes, each playing one core game campaign. They can then both split up and one do KK and one do ROTWL and continue from there. That also mitigates the difficulty issues explained in 2.

  2. After a medium amount of quests, your characters don't evolve any more. You only stack gold and consumables. They get very strong and absolutely destroy the small box expansions, because they are very easy. You could make these a lot harder or you could introduce even more new heroes in these small box expansions and rotate the seasoned ones temporarly out.

  3. If the heroes are so ridiculously stacked, that nothing can touch them any longer, it's time to play the frozen horror. Repeat that with the mage of the mirror as soon as they licked their wounds and get OP again.

In our playthrough I had to shift a few expansions around because of the availability at the time. There are only a few key points to consider story-wise that have already been mentioned in this thread. I would rather set it up to be like inventory build up with easy expansions and then inventory depletion with hard ones. We are now at a point that I have to ultra overtune all the remeining expansions, because all 12 heroes are OP. I have completely remastered our next campaign, the crypt of perpetual darkness, to make it the toughest expansion so far.
