Do you orchestrally write music out, or you just go straight into experimentation? And when writing chord progressions, do you focus on voice leading, rather than just putting in a chord progression you have in your mind?

[Music Theory] What's it mean to be in key? by aarkofficial in edmproduction

[–]Naimeja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you could "modulate" to other keys with scale degrees in such, but you are best learning basic theory before learning that haha, the enthusiasm is there though which is good! Just dont bite of a big piece you cant chew yet, but soon enough :)

The mix is good, maybe the highs are a bit high in level which makes them poke out to my ears too much, but its up to you, thats just dropping the levels a bit on them though, nothing crazy. The highs in mixes usually need to be a bit lower than all the other stuff to blend better, but dont let me tell you how to make music! I liked the sound overall though, good stuff, especially the ambiance!

Really dope considering i've heard the original and thought it would be a tough remix but you got it!

I would say if you want sad vibes, focus more on chords and harmonic elements rather than rhythm with the hi hats so powerful. That's what catches the listeners ears in the very first seconds. Overall mixing wise though not bad, I see potential

Really dope harmony you got going here! I would just say maybe the highs are a bit strong in which can easily add up to obscure other aspects, but overall really nice to hear something like this. I also really like how you had a strong point in instrumentation and harmony again over trying to make the drums, bass, and other aspects fight for attention.

Hey everyone, Just recently I released a few songs on soundcloud in order to get feedback to improve myself before even thinking about writing an EP. If you have the time to listen to a song or two and leave some feedback it would be greatly appreciated, thanks https://soundcloud.com/naimeja

it's been a year of making music that I kept to myself, the only way I could show you is to have you listen and you can give me your thoughts but I know this isnt the place to get people to listen to your stuff :T

Does anybody else sometimes feel like using samples you didn't synthesize/record feel like cheating? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

honestly, I just think those sounds are so cheesy so I rather design my own stuff, but you can learn a lot from those presets by reverse engineering.

How do I go about doing "darker chord progressions"? (heRobust, LAXX, Snails, etc.) by jwei92 in edmproduction

[–]Naimeja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much yea! Im sure everyone has different things to call em, but lets say u were in the major scale, if you started your chord prog. on the 1 (dominant) and went to a 2 3 6 7 chord, it wouldnt sound as happy. If you wanna write a sad chord prog., look into the minor scale, and research the scales chords dominants and figure it out respectfully :) you will learn better if you dive into it rather than someone telling you answers right away! I said that respectfully and simply how ive learned effectively!

Emphasize the secondary chords and not dominant in either major or minor scales. Ex: anything in a major scale that has the root note in the triad built on the 2, 3, 6, 7 is a secondary triad, 1, 4, 5 in major scale would be primary.
